1:02:33 Baldric: “Funny thing is my father was a nun” Blackadder: “No he wasn’t” Baldric: “He was! Every time he was in court the judge would ask him his occupation and he’d say none” 😂😂🤣🤣🤣 Simple play on words but bloody hilarious 🤣 🤣🤣
Blackadder remains my favorite non-dutch comedy show ever. Even now it does not feel outdated at all sure in visuals but not the writing. Certain quotes made it into my everyday life. This show also made me a hugh fan of Stephen Fry.
@@jupitorious7925Mr. Bean is brilliant. Rowan is able to make people laugh across cultures whithout saying a single word that is very hard to do. Same cannot be said for Blackadder.
Yeah, she did. Her first line in the queen sketch is grammatically wrong. And the way she stresses the “r” sounds more like Eastern European than Spanish. (but she’s obviously English) And when she says “just the two of us” she’s using the wrong article. She also says “mama how much I love you” and I’m not quite sure here because back then it might have been correct to call her mom but the Spanish word for mother-in-law is suegra.
Thanks to whoever put this video together. I'm glad they've included the less popular first series of Blackadder. Shame the second series isn't amognst this. Nevermind though, this compilation is brilliant!!!
Im my opinion, the most iconic moment in British comedy is Blackadder and his men going “Over the top” as the final scene!! It portrays the fear of the men so clearly and the comedic sarcasm is pointing a direct finger towards the absurdity of “Fighting for one’s country” at the behest of powerful men with no regard for the people in the trenches! It’s beautifully poignant 😢👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 The Blackadder series “Closed the curtains” in the most incredible way!!! Bravo 👏🏻
Series 3-4 is considered the best one as Blackadder is just slick, cunning and witty. But just for the goody comedy and Atkinson’s manic over the top comic acting and Brian Blessed. I still love Series 1.
It's interesting that Baldrick wasn't nearly as stupid in series one as later series...he actually has more brains than Blackadder in this! But who couldn't love Baldrick in any incarnation 😊💞
You cant make any intelligent comedy anymore or no one will understand it. And even worse they'll interpret it wrong and be offended for no reason they can explain.
Imagine first-time viewers who watch this video expecting hilarious comedy, and they get it, but then, at the end, they get that heartbreaking gut punch of a finale. What more can be said but......... "Good luck, everyone." 😢😢
I love Blackadder more than the average person, and as a Ricardian, I also love the first season. To think it was Edmund who killed Richard III is absolutely fantastic.
Have you somehow lost the rights for Blackadder II? Otherwise why would you exclude it from the compilation? I could understand missing some of the specials, but an entire season?
The 4th series was the best followed by the 2nd funny enough that’s the 2 series that Rik Mayall played Lord Flasheart in (Lord Flasheart in 4th series talking about flying planes “always treat your kite like your woman…get inside her 5 times a day and take her to heaven and back”). It’s funny how in the first series that Baldric was the clever one and Blackadder was the idiot (Percy was always an idiot). I have to say Corporal Punishment (2nd episode of 4th series) is my favourite episode where Blackadder kills the General’s pigeon and gets sentenced to death. So many parts of that episode are absolutely classic from the trial to the firing squad coming to see Blackadder and a 22/23yr old Stephen Fry playing a general in his 60’s was done so well. Who would’ve thought that a series set in the trenches of WW1 could be so funny. I grew up in the 80’s and Blackadder was the first grownup comedy show I loved and it’s still my favourite comedy show and has a special place in my heart, maybe because I love history and Blackadder is set in different periods of history it makes it so interesting to me or just the sentimental part of me that remembers being allowed to stay up to half 9 one night and I laughed my head off when King Richard 3rd says “A horse, a horse my kingdom for a horse” then goes to take Blackadder’s horse while he’s having a piss then shouts “that’s my horse” before decapitating King Richard and from then on I was hooked and from then on I was allowed to stay up late to watch Blackadder every week
Always gets me the last 2 scenes of blackadder! Pretty brilliant how they turned one of the best comedies into a serious sad ending. Think they just had to make it serious tbh. Also iv always wondered what was baldricks last ever cunning plan? Maybe this time it was truly cunning 🫡
If you like British humour and want to see some of the best ever footage...of Peter Cook who plays the ghost at the start of this video then search for Peter Cook 12 days of Christmas. It's some of the funniest comedy ever and is not so well known. Enjoy!
comedy was exellent what a great bunch not the 9oclock news was equally funny good times rip rik mayall 2024 20th april the sun is finally out after long winter uk.
I used to think these were funny when I was a boy. The later series with a more cunning Blackadder are still funny. I wish Baldric had stayed intelligent through those as well.
Honestly the first season is so bad by comparison to all the others that i do wonder how they ever got a second season. It's entertaining enough but I think a lot if the humour needs you to be historically informed and then at the same time can be so silly that it's just a bit childish
By bringing in Ben Elton and massively cutting the budget. In the later series, gone are the huge outdoor scenes, replaced by a small set of indoor sets. Most of 2, 3 & 4 could be done as a radio show, as the majority of the humour is verbal.

There is a major plot paradox when the B Adder counters the prince's proposal to strip Johnson's britches. If these are not the days of Alfred the Great isn't it illegal what Johnson and his literary friends threaten to do with B Adder?

THat final scene with Captain Darling is superb acting, he portrays deep fear superbly.
Tim MCInnerny was the only lead actor who was professionally trained. the other's were comedians who moved to comedy acting
The ending of Blackadder Goes Forth gets me everytime.
"Good luck everyone". 😢😢😢😢
Ending which always silences everyone... What a masterpiece...
Going over the top always brings me to tears.

One the most heart-wrenching endings to a series.

Did they not do the Spanish talking very well? Was there mistakes being made?

Mr Bean is popular overseas because it's mostly visual slapstick. UK audiences appreciate the Blackadder humour because we get it.
