    Very sad day today because of the tragic loss of Jason Kaye and the Mc "Singing" Fats in the last few days. It's a reminder that we must appreciate all these legends from the scene that gave us so much joy before it's too late. I am sooo effing emotional right now😭🥰 so chuffed to see these interviews now at this time as theres clearly a 90s revival going on since last year i noticed it when i just suddenly bought some decks and got back into it..even saw old tunes released now and rave fb groups and even kids on decks and all sorts i was like wtf is going on haha. Then i looked at the astrology !! Its a 30 yr cycle (saturn in pisces) 😮😂❤ now all i wanna do is get out there and play all these old tunes to share the love again jus like it was back then that same feeling is coming back around and its for NOW coz it was an amazing time to be alive just like now with this ascension in full swing😮❤ the unity n love feeling is what we all need right now. ❤
    Sorry for waffling im just blown away .. Does anyone else relate ?

    From this discussion I certainly would like to see a podcast with the Ragga Twins and the MCs that crossed over from London's Sound Systems. Credit to Micky for mentioning that. It also brings to light the rave experience and it would be nice to hear Everton & Kingsley from Roast, Sting from Telepathy, Terry Turbo of One Nation speak about their nights from their perspective as promoters.

  • @AlexanderBuck1973
    @AlexanderBuck1973 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I went to AWOL at Paradise in 91, pretty much when it first opened and it was definitely four to the floor then. For me it changed in 92 and the breakbeat sound became more prominent. Randall, in my opinion, was the one really pushing that sound in Paradise Club. Everything progressed so quickly at that time. I remember hearing GQ calling it the jungle sound, over the Photek tune, Jump in 93 when I'd say it made that transition. Just my opinion.
    So cool to hear Micky talk about the team. When AWOL first opened the door team were not great, or certainly not up to the standard they set later on. As soon as the promoters changed the door team, the whole vibe changed to one of safety and being able to have fun. It was so special AWOL at Paradise. It was unique and like Micky said the crowd were spoilt with amazing cutting edge music every week. The amount of dubplates heard down there for the first time was insane. And thank god for GQ. Quite often in the crowd and always a massive part of the vibe created. I just feel so lucky to have gone there. It felt like my life ended when it moved to SW1.

    I have to agree GQ has been the best Mc in the scene since day one . Along with Mc moose . That Ron set from roast with them two is timeless.

    What!!! Part two
    Omg 😱
    I am ecstatic
    Part two was everything
    I feel like I was there
    How lucky was Mickey et al
    To have made it all on merit, no Instagram posts, no paid promotion
    And that is how you get the best of the best and doesn't it show.

    So many great parts in this interview...I'm glad he mentioned the importance of Birmingham in his career, I saw him there many times.
    I was lucky enough to see both venues of AWOL and it's weird because I don't remember SW1 being too rough. My main memory of that place is Mickey dropping 'We Must Unite' by DJ Hype and the place went wild, haha!
    One thing I've always wanted to know: he dropped Terrorist as his first tune at World Dance in early 94 - was that the first time that tune got played out? I'd definitely never heard it before.
    Anyway, big up as always Ron for another great interview

      Sw1 had a proper bad reputation, as Mickey says there may have been some reasons for that...other places in London were also not so 'nice' as people moved in and the music got darker...

    @london something I really love watching these interviews of all my oldskool idols :D Thanks for doing them. I would love to see one of MC Shocking B, think he must be the most under rated person in the scene considering how influential he must of been to so many including Skibba and Shabba. Also would be very interested to hear MC Funstas story too :D

    There is one man who has been completely overlooked in the scene and that’s the absolute legend that is Mc Lenni
    Ron, get him on your show pal
    Mc Lenni was the race scene and was the pioneer of the midlands with his events .. starlight judgement day was a absolute fucking banger and I was 15 years old and blagged my ticket from Lenni in his Pure Records Shop in Brum.
    He was booking The Prodigy to do a Pa at the Villa before they ever made it onto TOTPs
    The UK dance scene now, has a lot to thank the true pioneer of his time
    Respect Mc Lenni
    Micky Finn if you get to read this then get on the phone to time pal and get Lenni on a podcast

    Watching this, I can see how these interviews can turn into a more podcast like setting;
    Get guests back regularly and even have two or three at a time to chat whatever
    It sounds like Mickey got another 2 hours needed just talking about cotton anyway 😂
    Love you guys, good vibes 🙌🏼
