      @@mrburns366 I don’t have much time to learn it and thus don’t like it yet … I wish the screen would show the midi notes&chords that I recorded… it’s hard to use the build in chords and then make a bass to it as I don’t see /know what notes each chord is…

    • @tobiaslofi
      @tobiaslofi ปีที่แล้ว

      @@literaltrash2275 I’ve used it only once during the last year. I’ve put my favorite drum samples on the sd card to be able to use them. I’ve registered a free account at Roland cloud to download 3-4 free genre specific soundpacks (LoFi etc) … due to the tiny screen going through the internal sounds takes forever and I could not find how to favorite sounds. So instead of using any of the internal sounds I browse quickly to the sound sounds on the SD card and find what I like among the ca 50 sounds there. That’s all I can stomach to do on the display. I still don’t know how to see the midi notes I have recorded in order to copy notes from one track to another. I think the only usable dawless box that is powerful and easy to use must be the AKAI Force. (Which is all LEDs, screen and buttons every where)

    I have a feeling that in the future this thing will be highly sought after, but today it’s highly more complex than people are willing to invest time into. Plus producers are too invested in touchscreens and DAWs.
    It’s still a Roland product and the sounds are stellar so I bought one and we’ll see what comes of it.

    I really appreciate Roland doing these instructive videos for they are surely needed. There are so many ways to edit something that chances are you‘ll never find it, e.g. there is Shift + X, Edit + X and then X + Encoder or Enter and Select and more. Since it’s not always one way the UI is far from intuitive at times. It probably makes sense on a deeper level for Roland does not strike me as careless but results in a steep learning curve for this interesting instrument.

    • @thegreatsiberianitch
      @thegreatsiberianitch 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It takes some time but once you get into it's logic, it becomes more intuitive. I was kinda lost for a day or two but after that it started to gel. As an instrumentalist, I feel like the workflow and tactical nature of this machine taps the same part of my brain as playing an instrument does. That's something I've always felt I lacked when working in daws. Where so many devices go with more knobs and sliders and/or bigger screens that distract the headspace bridging listening and creating, the MV-1 aims to stay out of the way so you can stay in a more intuitive state during the creative process. I feel like this machine will be a sleeper while ppl whine about the screen size, but eventually the right people get a hold of it, appreciate the objective of its design, and give it the props it deserves.

    Hello, I would like to second the UNDO w/Shift & Edit button as suggested by Peter Castle.
    Also, the sample edit Start and End point values need to have a more coarse option. Holding shift and turning the knob does this but is not coarse enough. So, it should be similar to the original Electribe ESX (Red model) where you can move the cursor left or right to very coarse or very fine adjusting of the sample start and end point. It makes for much quicker sample editing.
    Thanks Roland, if you read these comments. I really like this unit and with a few firmware upgrades it could be an amazing piece of kit.
    Cheers

    Great for new producer, vocalists wanting to collaborate and pro's needing a sketch pad. not entirely sure the marketing is pushing those angles. it needs a bit of faith to get started (but i think im probably a bit slow with these things) but, after a month im liking the put up or shut up no trix you need to use me for something more than just plugins, the workflow def forcing you into making a song, sound quality deeply inspiring and you can take it anywhere. sampling workflow needs work, vocal workflow is great but needs a good primer - weakest part of the manual but the vid def helped me, zenbeats integration takes things to a different level. im really enjoying the lack of a screen (put up or shut up) but once youve got some sequences made zenbeats adds nitrous to a slick workflow. its got it creases (at 2 months old) but its easy to learn and there are layers to master. im coming from maschine background, this feels more focused...and i guess fun. keen to support it because it is one of the most fun bits of kit i own.... definitely a collaborative instrument, both local and at distance - its slick enough to bounce ideas back and forth without getting stuck in techmire....once you put a power block on it... youre done...take it anywhere off to your mates. get the ideas, sketch the inspiration, see what happens and fill in the details later...its making me sing again and look at songs in a modular rather than linear way. so yeah it might not be all singing all dancing....but maybe the best bit of kit is the one you enjoy using. In a crowded market it feels something different.

      I feel like the design and workflow of the MV-1 is purposed toward the same part of my brain as playing an instrument. There's a depth of experience I've always lacked when making music in daws, my whole purpose for getting into hardware. So many devices go with more knobs and sliders and/or bigger screens but for me that obstructs the headspace between listening and creating. Its like the MV-1 aims to stay out of the way so you can be more direct and intuitive. So while ppl whine about the screen size and how this or that would have made it "perfect", this machine will be a sleeper. But eventually, the right people will get a hold of it, appreciate the objective of it's design, and give it the props it deserves. Like, everyone was asking for more candy and Roland handed them some broccoli.

    I think I figured out a way to extend your recording time on the vocal track. All you have to do is mix down your entire song into a WAV file and then upload it as a sample in stereo. So if your song is 3 1/2 minutes, that gives you two and a half minutes in stereo to further add instruments via the input. Rince and repeat.

  • @jordanWAH
    @jordanWAH 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    If you press edit, then style, you can scroll to hold and turn it on. To stop playing press style. Put variation to 12 and notif on chord and style to 53 and you get like a 16th per measure timing.
    I just had to figure all this out on my own because I don't see any of this information out there😅.

    Love my Verselab. The only issue I have come across so far is that the tempo can only be set for the entire track. Not all songs are the same tempo throughout. It would be great if you could set specific tempos for different sections. Eg. section 1-10 @120 bpm, section 11-12 @100bpm then section 13 onwards back up to 120bpm. I can't find any way of doing this.

    Time for an update for Zenbeats and better support for vocals, and it would be great if you could edit each vocal on each pad later on in your daw as a separate recording. No support for vocals and how to set the automation and others for your vocals, that does not make this dawless. New sounds and a better way to handle samples in the MV1 or with Zenbeats and back into MV1 and from MV1 to Zenbeats and other DAW. Create a bracket for iPad and iPhones to the MV1 to make it work as a screen with the MV1 and all guys who complain that you do not have a screen get to chose a small or a big screen to work with. Easy ✨😊😃🎶

    Excellent overview, you should really do that with other Roland products.
    As for the MV-1. It only lacks two things for me to consider buying it :
    - Add solo shortcut (like you did for mute in latest firmware)
    - Present the separate audio tracks on the USB generic class compliant mode (currently only mixdown from what I understand).
    Right now staying on Maschine+ & MC-101 but keeping an eye on this !

    • @cresshead
      @cresshead 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      usb generic audio is usually 2 channels only... so maybe an option is to choose which 2 channels are used.. master LR or say track 3(stereo) or vocal track

    • @cresshead
      @cresshead 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can already get around this with mutes.. just mute everything you don't want and let that go out the LR on generic drivers for ios

    • @alexandrosroussos
      @alexandrosroussos 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@cresshead there is no technical limit of generic driver. Check most others like Elektron, Native Instruments, Studiologic, pretty much any brand of mixer or independent sound card like Tascam, Presonus, A&E, all DJ equipment, they all present multitrack audio via generic USB.
      I thought of the mute trick but that would mean an 8 pass export at least and no ability to route to an iPad mixer like AUM to add it in a virtual setup on iOS.
      I don’t know why Roland sticks to proprietary drivers and provides either no generic mode or quite limited one on their groove boxes, synths and even DJ équipement.
      I was happily surprised of their implementation if class compliant audio on recent firmware of the MC 101/707. Maybe driven by their willing to integrate with mobile devices.
      So I have hopes they are heading to the right direction on this aspect.

    hi, I am a bit stopped by the purchase because I would like to have concrete answers regarding the step recorder, let me explain (I try to explain myself better): I have a pc with my roland clouds inside, my intention to make those sounds interact with the my midi keyboard and be able to take advantage of the step recorder and verselab registration. the chain should be like this: 1) PC (the sounds) + 2) MIDI KEYBOARD (to play them), to be able to play the sounds from the pc with the midi keyboard or create (always with the pc sounds and the midi keyboard) sequences, arpeggios and being able to change the chord with the keyboard on the arpeggio created with the 3) VERSELAB. I hope there is someone who understands my intentions :-)

    Question: when changing pattern mesurses , (lets say to 4) i don't see an indicator anywhere. How will I know when I'm nearing the end of the 4th mesure? Is it only by listening?
    Thanks in advance

      The light is lately illuminated underneath the octave buttons. I believe you hold down edit and hit the octave right button. One dot equals four bars. You're welcome but the manual tells you all of this, all you need to do is keyword searches.

    Roland
    YOU HAVE TO MAKE SAMPLE start and end point editing faster. Even holding shift. It takes forever. It edits at 100’s. And 1000’s
    Looks like it Needs editing at 10,000’s
    If I copy a 8 second sample to all pads.
    And do my editing on samples per pad. It would take 30 minutes if my hands don’t cramp up.
    Easier on the 404 , mv 8000, S-330 , mc 909, mc 808. All of which. I have owned. If you want this thing to compete with AKAI. FIX THIS. ASAP.
    That one thing is making it a deal breaker.
    I don’t want to slice that’s hit or miss
    I want full control over sample editing per pad per sample. In the box 📦 and need it to be fast . This thing could have taken a bunch of Akai one sales BUT .
    You have to be able to fly on the sample editing
    I had hopes of clearing out a bunch of gear from my studio and work strictly on the MV-1 but now I’m not so sure .

    1:26 - or *a* mobile battery? You mean, an additional product that isn't included in the device? Getting really annoyed with "feature-faking" by groovebox makers in their promo materials. Should have said "there is NO built-in battery but you can lug around a floppy power block that will cost you extra if you want to power this incomplete device on the go by footing the bill to make it more-complete because we didn't want to, manufacturing-side of the equation, but are now trying to brush it off and make it seem like it's battery-operated by glossing over the fact that it simply needs *a* mobile battery but not specifying none will be included in the hefty price tag of the device itself
