One of my favorite "what if?" cars. It's the reason I got an AW11. If I had the funds, I would do an exact replica. That car would be fun in our snowy winters.
Nice, the 222D is one of the prettiest rally cars in my opinion and Im so happy to have a 1/43 scale model in my collection. I love to drive it in games such as Loeb Rally Evo, Gravel and art of rally. A pity theres no Group S car in any of the DiRT or WRC games.
@@magnuskevinsen2380 The angular profile of the MR2 is perfect. It looks like Origami. The wedge shaped hood is even better with pop up headlights. The 222D looks bloated. I always wanted fender flares on my MR2. The bulging wheel fenders on the 222D are far too round. If they could have just made the front pair angle toward the front bumper more sharp it might have looked better. The blunted front bumper is bizarre. With the ride height, it would have looked better if they commited to a protruding front splitter or even a vertical one. The slightly recessed front splitter looks like they couldnt make up their mind which way they wanted it to go. (Mentioning the front splitter is giving me flashbacks, those are the most commonly broken, highly sought part on the AW11 😅😅) I say all that knowing damn well those genius engineers designed a masterpiece of performance that had a purpose for every square inch. I just think it looks kinda ugly with the weird aero on the body.
what a death trap. The front end on that thing would just fold (and not in a crumple zone way) if it crashed into anything hard. Imagine hitting a tree at 80 mph in this thing. There are pics of Ari Vatenanas 205 where the aluminium roll cage is just crushed. Aluminium roll cages are great for weight saving but pretty useless in a crash lol.

true, this is my favorite rally car. same as the audi quatro rally car
I think the AW11 MR2 is one of the most attractive cars there is (I've owned 3) but I still think the 222D is ugly 😂
@@clockhanded isn't the 222D based on the AW11? So how can it be ugly then if u like the AW11?

Was the black one all wheel drive?

CORRECTION: I BELIEVE THE 503E WAS FROM ANOTHER CAR, NOT THE GROUP C CAR.
(I am not 100% sure)
Yes toyota used 503e in 88C group c racing car. It was also used in eagle hf89 and JGTC Castrol Tom's supra gt500
How would 1986 have been one of the best years for rally? It was tragic. After that, the likes of Audi no longer wanted to compete.
