Hi from Houlton! black rubber bowls from feed store, are a must have for water. They won't crack from freezing, just flip and stomp the ice out. some supplemental light, cause 16 hours of dark and freezing is too long to go without food and water. They need to eat to stay warm. A little cracked corn before bed helps also.
Hi Linda (neighbor)! 👋 Thanks for the tips! We appreciate them! We do have a light in the coop. Will have to get some cracked corn! Have a great night!! 😊
Hey Jen, saw you waving and I waved back and I loved that little dance of you two. That sure is a lot of work, but little by little you’ll get it done. I just love the videos that you share with everyone!
Hi Linda! Gotta stop and have fun. All work and no play is not good for you!! (Remember where I worked 😉) We really appreciate your love, support and comments!! They mean the world to us!!♥️
loved that little dance ya'all did. nice too watch ya doing chores with a sense of humor. please show that november craft poster again, to remind me, that make an awesome day trip.
You have to have fun….enjoy why we came out here on this journey!! 😊 We will be posting the craft poster a lot more as the date gets closer. We would love for you to stop by and see us!! We are hoping to do more of them next year!! ♥️
Hi Jason and Jen, So good to see you guys. WOW lots of prep to get done, I know you guys stay super busy! Maybe when winter gets here y’all can chill some and rest up for the big stuff come spring and summer. I know you still have lots to do in the winter but you know what I mean. 🤪 We had 80* today and that’s so rare for us but hey who’s complaining, right? lol not me. Praying our winter is smooth sailing! AND YOURS TOO 🙃 Stay safe, warm and God Bless ❤
Hi Pam!👋 Good to hear from you. Hope all is well! We do have lots to do but it’s one item at a time. The important things first. Things will shift to different things to get done come winter. I have several blanket orders already and I will be restocking the website after the craft fair next month. We were in the 70’s today!! It was beautiful!! I sat out with the chickens for a bit. It was relaxing. We pray the winter goes smoothly too! Have a great night! Take care and God bless!♥️🙏♥️
@@Backyard_Chickens for our lifestyle Husq works great. If one was to do saw commercially, I’d say Stihl. I have a 24” Husq 455 Rancher, 18” Poulon and a 16” Stihl.
I've tried winters with pine shavings and with straw, I found the the straw held up better and kept coop 10 to 15 degrees warmer than outside temp. Pine shavings held onto moisture and the walls and windows had alot of condensation.
Gen as a horticulturlist put your growing medium in the greenhouse too prevent the fertilizer from going off over the winter and keep it dry.☘️🇮🇪sould read Jen?
i just keep adding shavings till about 6 in deep never clean it out works for my 6 hens shovel out once a year ifound that grates just help beaver plug culverts only way to stop is remove said beaver
@@cedricgates9976 well add a bit more shortly to make sure they have a min of 6”. We use the grate so it’s easier to clean, it won’t prevent the beaver. We’ve had so many issues with Beavers and until we’re able to move them, the grate makes cleaning much easier.
We don’t plan on adding any heat to the coop. Our chickens are cold hardy and with the additional preparations we have for the coop we hope that’ll be enough 🤞
OK the zip tie trick was a legit tip. Never know what I will learn on your channel.Where does the SxS rate in needed equipment, before or after tractor? I think I have seen some politician with big hair do that dance lately.
We have found a lot of hacks that work since being out here! (They definitely come in handy) As for SxS or tractor first…..tractor. SxS is an amazing tool but on a smaller scale vs the tractor. First year we were hand shoving gravel into our cart to take to where we needed it. Not fun!! 🤣
Love your videos! I’m winter prepping in Maine too, just a bit south of you. Question: Have you dealt with voles at your place? They don’t hibernate and I’m looking for ways to prevent them from destroying the veggies overwintering in a low tunnel. Any advice? Thanks!
@@robinmbirrellstudio howdy neighbor(ish) 👋 We have voles and a lot of them. They decimated our potato patch the past couple years. Only thing we’ve found that helps is Sioux, our cat. He brings a few home every week. He stays inside at night, but with the shop finished we plan on bringing 2 or 3 kittens in to raise as barn cats. They’ll stay outside 24/7. Hoping they’ll help keep the population down.
Good job folks. It still amazes me how well you have acclimated to this lifestyle. Quite proud of you folks.
Thank you! Means a lot coming from you!😊
Thank you for the video, I hope that your wife sells out at the craft fair.
Thank you for the kind words and support! 😊

Still sweating wearing shorts and getting eaten alive by bugs down here. Living vicariously through you 😂
😂 Don’t mind wearing shorts but you can keep the bugs! 🤣 Have a great day!😊

Chainsaw question: Husqvarna or Stihl. 20 or 24 inches. I have no preference, just checking. Amazon and TSC had a sale on Husqvarna.

Do you put anything into your gas to store it?
Not unless we think the gas will sit more that 6 mos.
