There will always be someone who believes they know better than you how you should live. Let them! I know you told me you want this to be a channel that children can watch, so I won't get more colorful than that about the keyboard worriers. We have been friends for 30 years and in all that time I can say this about you. You are a goal oriented and driven individual who i am proud to call my friend. You and Jen have done an amazing thing out there with little to no experience on how to live that life. Not only are you doing it, but you are thriving at it! Be proud, my friend's you have earned the right to be! Merry Christmas.
Thanks so much for the kind words and support! Means a lot coming from you. We're doing our best to live life on our terms and be a positive influence along the way. 😊 Much Love & Mad Respect
I couldn’t agree more, there’s nothing like the heat of a wood stove. Assuming your cabin is on piers, be sure to bank the skirting with snow. Makes the world of difference in how the cabin holds heat. Thank you for the support! 😊
Merry Christmas!🎄People that have never lived in No ME have no idea the tasks of keeping a home warm in the winter when you heat with wood or how young you are when you start learning those chores. The other video when you were talking about wet boots brought back memories of us as kids and being poor and only having one pair of boots. Weren't insulated like they are now. Several pairs of socks and boots always had a hole in them. Bread bags over our feet took care of keeping our feet dry. I'm so thankful I've moved away from Houlton. Sure, do miss my family, but this old lady can't handle the cold or the chores of winter. Keep on teaching these young kids what hard work really is!🎄
There is a rhythm that comes once you start stacking and cutting your wood…to me it can be a mind-resting, though soothing, activity. Merry Christmas to you both! Save your voice now!
It looks cold out there you will have a white Christmas your so lucky I hope you and Jenn has a sweet Christmas and I hope your grandbabies have one and safe New year eve
I love to watch you do firewood, cut, stack, load! Jason, if you feel like you don't want to talk you can do a musical or silent (with wood cutting, stacking noises, birds chirping, dogs barking and playing), you can do a half hour version. It's so relaxing and I enjoyed "watching people work" LOL! Have a Merry Christmas to you Jason and Jen!
We are heating our new Maine homestead rather unexpectedly , by the woodstove. I thought the solar would be installed by now but nope. So generator for a few hours and blessed woodstove. Like you I enjoy cutting the wood to fit in the stove. I leave the ax to my husband though lol! I teach first and second grade and most every child stacks wood for their families! Simply a way of life up here.Hope you feel better soon. Merry Christmas to you and Jen
Heating with wood was new to us when we came out here but we absolutely love it!! It’s a cozy heat!! Hope you and your family have the Merriest Christmas!! Stay warm and safe! ♥️☃️🎄♥️
Hi Jason n Jen, Brrr,,,,I can almost feel the freezing cold while you’re out there Jason, poor guy! But I know, you gotta do whatcha ya gotta do!! My 5 brothers kept the wood cut and us 3 girls kept that wood stacked all year round. Oh yeah I hated it but we wanted to be warm in the winter!! So I personally know what it’s like to be out in the cold and freezing my tail off, not fun! Might wanna mask up with something while your voice is rough, inhaling that cold may keep it horse longer,,,just saying 🥺 I hope you guys have a Very Merry Christmas and the Most Wonderful New Year Ever! 🧨 God Bless you both my friends ❤
Hi Pam!! It has been pretty freaking cold out especially with the wind chill!! 🥶 Like you said…have to do it to keep warm!! We love the idea of masking up. I mentioned it to Jason and hopefully he tries it out!! Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year! God bless you all and stay warm!! ♥️☃️🎄🙏♥️
my mamiere always added a shot of good ole whiskey to that tea and honey to us as kids. to this day, i still do 3 hot tardys to heal from throat ailments and colds. aint no pre-planning, or cue cards to read, your chores and plans for the day is on what mother nature gives you for the day and as well as what your body is up for. keep the faith, follow your gut instinct, and if its a one hour day so be it.
Our first year we cleaned it 3 times cause we were terrified lol but now we clean it once in the spring after the season and then a quick check for bug/bird nests in the fall. Thank you for the kind words and support 😊
Ideally you should have two years worth dry and be cutting and stacking the third year’s wood. Seasoning that wood is key. Good for you to be soldering on despite fatigue. 👍
Great question! When I’m not filming I keep in my jackets inside pocket to keep it warm. When I film, I make my best efforts to film shorter segments. It has worked thus far.
Suggestion from a non off grid 100% self harvested firewood heater for decades here in Downeast Maine. Chainsaws can eat flesh...quickly. Use PPE--head, eyes, gloves, especially Kevlar chaps. Cheap insurance AND, take a Wilderness Medicine course to take care of yourselves in the emergencies that WILL happen. You're way off from close ER care. Learn to handle the things that can happen. C'mon. We learn situational awareness in mil training....or using tools in cold or heat. No sawing when you're fatiqued. MERRY CHRISTMAS.
Merry Christmas 🎄 What is yours and Jen's comparison to Chicago cold versus the Homestead? Do you think your former life of working indoors is a factor? I've been a year-round roofing contractor for forty years- in New England, and can attest to the mantra of "complaining about the cold, makes it worse". I've done better with "get it done & then get warm". Great content, real and informative, thank you.
Merry Christmas 🎄 It’s a heck of a lot colder in Chicago than here in Maine BUT, winter isn’t nearly as long in Chicago. Additionally, Maine gets so much more snow than Chicago ever does. That’s a great mantra to live by. 😊
Many folks work off their homesteads to make this lifestyle viable, including us. There are so many traditional and non-traditional ways to generate income, just have to find what works for you. 😊
How much firewood do you think on avg you guys burns. I know there are lots of variations but some kind of idea.... sorry made this comment as i began watching this vid. This is my first year with a wood stove seems like i burned about 3 face cords from oct 15 to about first week in Dec during hunting season in Maine
Our first winter was rough…we went through nearly 6 cord as we learned how to heat with our stoves. Last year we went through just under 3 cord and this year looks to be similar. We may do a video on how we heat our cabin.
You really can't blame people as there's so much disinformation and fraud in video out there. Little wonder people question what they're watching. Also, if God forbid one of you passed, what would the remaining spouse do? It happens, and it is monumental when it does.
I don’t blame them at all as that stuff does go on, but not on our channel. As for what would happen if one of us pass, we’ve had that talk and have a plan in place. Thanks for the comment and support! 😊
You guys are doing a great job.
Thank you for the support 😊
People have know idea how much work it takes to run a ranch or a farm. It is always something to do❤
Isn’t that the truth! 😊
Great work and hard work. Good job. Merry Christmas 🎄
Thanks, Merry Christmas to you too! 🎄
Well drink a hot toddy!! Get warm and have a Great N Merry Christmas!! Get well soon!
Thanks, you too! 😊🎄

As Kinloch said in 1819 "He is twice warmed who cuts his own wood"
Kinloch nailed it! 😊
Some people lol they have no idea what it takes to live our life style.
Merry Christmas 🎄
No they don’t! 😂 Have a very Merry Christmas!🎄
I feel your pain...I loaded the stove for the night.... Hope you feel better soon.🙏
It’s always a chore in the winter, but a satisfying one! 😊 Thank you for the support! 😊
I'm new to a wood stove but love burning wood so much. I think it's the best way to heat. And with a 14x32 cabin it heats it very well
I couldn’t agree more, there’s nothing like the heat of a wood stove. Assuming your cabin is on piers, be sure to bank the skirting with snow. Makes the world of difference in how the cabin holds heat. Thank you for the support! 😊
@HanbleceyaRanch i did send a messege on your website as well
@ I’ll respond 👍
@HanbleceyaRanch sounds great can't wait to talk

We definitely know the struggle of those cold Maine winters! Thank you for sharing your story! 😊 Merry Christmas 🎄
I would want at least 3 years of wood ready to go if it was me. You never know whats gonna happen.
3 years is a good target but takes up a lot of space. We’ve found that 2 yrs works for us. Thanks for the comment and support!! 😊

Brrrrr toooooo cold for me! Merry Christmas!
We love the winter temps! Merry Christmas 🎄 😊
Thanks for sharing! Merry Christmas!
Thanks! Merry Christmas to you too!🎄
The place looks great in the snow. Merry Christmas folks.
Thank you for the kind words and support! 😊

Thank you for the kind words and support! Have a very Merry Christmas 😊
I only needed 1 1/2 chords for the whole winter in my 62 foot mobil home and stayed very warm near your place.
That’s great! We’ve gotten our usage down considerably since our first winter. There is definitely a learning curve. Thanks for the support! 😊

In Gaylord we got down to minus 19 degrees Saturday morning up to 15 degrees plus Sunday morning. Heat wave
Hell of a temp swing for sure! We don’t mind the cold but it does take a lot out of you when you’re working in it.
Merry Christmas to you and your family..keep up the good work
Thank you for the kind words and support Larry 😊 Have a very Merry Christmas 🎄
😂 theres no end to firewood!
Ain’t that the truth!! 😂

Been adding a bit of that to my coffee!! 😉 Mother Nature is boss around here. We go by her rules!!😂
Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 to you
Merry Christmas!! 🎄🎁
How often do you clean your chimney? Learning alot from you!

Thanks for the support! 3 yrs isn’t a bad idea, but we’ve found that a year in advance works well for us. 😊
How do you manage the camera batteries to prevent shutting off pre maturally?
