Another Generation I never fully grew up with, let's head into the Hoenn Region and see what makes this game the most beloved of all Pokemon mainline games.

Reading the braille was never too hard for me as a kid. I recognized it in an encyclopedia we had in the house and simply used that as reference. I imagine it to be the same for many other kids, but I could be wrong obviously lol.
I find it very funny how it's happened only one time and it was this game haha
I was the one that skip Hoenn and got the Kanto remake for my Gen. 3 experience. I didn't try out Emerald till after I beat Platinum. While it's not my favorite Pokémon game nor I don't think it's the best as many people think, I can appreciate for what it tries to do with the environments of the region and introducing things like Ability, Double Battle and such. I do think it is an bit overbloated in terms of the progression, the evil plot that's happening goes absolutely nowhere, the variety of Pokemon does lack in many ways and Hoenn is basically Kanto 2.0.. Other than that, it's an alright game. But not my favorite. I guess it is nostalgia that alot of people claim as there favorite. Which you can say the same about Crystal or Platinum or whatever Pokémon games you grew up with.
I think playing Emerald after playing so many games growing up like Platinum, the BW Duology and the 3D games, it hits different. It was simple enough but felt like a massive improvement all the same.
Still pisses me off in equal measure that we could never explore underwater as freely as we could here and me never beating the Battle Pike Queen.
Dude ngl, I couldn't be tempted to try the Battle Frontier. The fatigue GOT TO ME lmao
Pokemon Emerald was my first Pokemon game ever, and the sense of adventure i felt in that game was like no other. I went to play Fire red and I was so bored compared to the first one. The evil team is more boring, the legends are less relevant, and the only interesting part was the rival, of which i already knew about. I can't explain it but its such a beautiful experience and i fell in love with so many of the characters, no matter how irrelevant they were. A Masterpiece honestly.
After playing this gen, I completely understand why people started with this one. The GBA was their DS and it was a solid experience in the end.

most people think the rival fights are VERY hard (especially after slateport & I personally struggled with the one before fortree)
They were ridiculously easy even if you have a low level gap. May didn't use good move sets and her team wasn't really a threat by the end.

Oh yeah because I grinded a bit to get a move on. The one that did do me dirty was Wally by Victory Road.
It’s literally 90% the same as ruby/sapphire, the only major addition is the battle frontier, which was awesome and hasn’t been replicated in it’s entirety since, this is why oras is trash too.
Emerald isn't 90% the same when you realize they reworked it so you would deal with both Magma and Aqua to have Wallace as the champion and Juan as the Gym Leader, having a more completed Hoenn Dex from both games, and of course the Battle Frontier and Wally. ORAS isn't trash as it was focusing on reworking the RS mostly while having Gen 6 mechanics in place.
