- This is an update to our original Rolls Royce video we captured back in May. We've got it running fairly well and now the challenge is to see if we can get it to go into forward and reverse gears.

Very cool, stay with it!
It's testament to how great these engines are that it even starts, in this condition. Check that the dashpots of carburetors are topped up with oil (15W-50 is fine). That can work like magic sometimes, as they are often dry. Take apart the brake fluid reservoir as it's probably all gunked-up and filters collapsed. You got your work cut out for you, but looks like fun, just to see if it can run. Thing about the brakes is it won't be safe at all unless you attend to that system, and I don't know about converting it to something else, as that may be just as expensive at the end of the day.
The dashpots were definitely stuck, unfortunately we lost the footage of taking the carbs apart, cleaning them up and getting everything moving again.
There's nothing more expensive than a cheap Rolls-Royce.
very lucky to recovery and the rolls could run cheerup to recovery to success and wait for update 3
These original cars are beginning to command big money now over in Europe. Even in that condition!
No they are not, you see hardly any not even new ones here, too expensive, there are plenty breaking for spares though.
@@stevenc5227 Here in the US a low mileage Silver Shadow, in Excellent condition will go for around 35 to 45 thousand , an absolutely perfect, showroom specimen well over 55 to 60 thousand. There are buyers for these cars....
Letting a Rolls get to that state is criminal,😢
unfortunately not too uncommon
I did smile at the guys slagging off the 'English making such a mess of this wiring' and another saying 'faulty British vehicles' while drilling out an irreplaceable RR key switch because they had no keys for a car that stood in a field for 30 years ... 😂😂
Yes i noticed the lack of respect too, this car is salvageable but needs to go to a owner who knows what he/she is doing.
Good stuff !
The ‘ English ‘ don’t make a mess of anything , especially on a Rolls Royce!😢
The prior owner's made a mess of plenty though
The brakes is the nightmare, I had 2 shadows, I'd reupolster the back seats with cloth, and vinyl the door panels. The chain drive in the power windows there's a brake solenoid you remove the. Deduct the schains and massage grease into the chains reassemble and the power windows will not only work but theiy will be fast. With the windows brakes rejov we d it is possible to push the glass down or up manually but these windows are notorious for getting slower and getting stuck. A shop fitted a weber carb to one of my shadows made it run so smooth.
The more you custom in the car the better.
"Rolls Royce's NEVER BREAKDOWN. They FAIL to PROCEED".
Yes!
Might want to put a small sheet of plywood under the jack
Great try gentleman, just a thought those old engines, used to run on 5 star or 100 octane . It will not have hardened valve seats. Don't
try running that engine to long on unleaded fuel. Hope this helps, stay well, stay safe.
Unleaded is fine. You can add octane boost if you want. It's the oil that should be high zinc that makes a difference.
Les mecs font un good job pour redémarrer la voiture. And I love the sound of the V8… mais ça m’a l’air d’être de sacrés clodos quand on voit les épaves qui traînent derrière. Une Rolls mérite mieux. J’espère qu’elle s’en sortira un jour… 😃😉🙏
A very expensive car to repair and service, better off just removing the engine, transmission and any other parts that are worth saving, reconditioning those and sell as spares. Some of the body panels may also be salvageable, the dashboard is definitely worth money. Not knowing what state the seats are in but RR used fine expensive leather for those and are individually made for each vehicle. They even have original leather to match up and repair damaged seats still in stock. If the state of the drivers door trim is anything to go by there`s not much to save but you should get a decent profit from the engine and transmission alone when refurbished. You certainly screwed up that ignition lock by drilling it, all you had to do was give the vehicle details to a RR Dealer and they would have been able to obtain a spare key. I certainly wouldn`t ask you to make any repairs or service my car as you seem to be what I call a "bodger". The idea of using different threads on the wheels ie left and righthanded threads is to prevent the wheel nuts coming loose and loosing a wheel completely, this practice of threading used to be very common on most British cars and was a very good safety feature. RR were hand built as were a good many early British cars of the period.
HI GUYS! I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS, AND PRAISE GOD THAT YOU LOVE OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST.
CONSTRUCTIVE CRITICISM: YOUR PROGRAM IS A LITTLE TOO SLOW AND I THINK THIS IS WHY YOU DON'T GET AS MANY VIEWERS AS YOU SHOULD. I LOVE YOU BROTHERS IN CHRIST JESUS AND I'LL SEE YOU IN HEAVEN WITH OUR FATHER AND JESUS CHRIST AND ALL OUR LOVED ONES ✝️
Thanks for your support!
The English as you say made a mess of the wiring!! No they didn’t!! They made a quality built car that outclassed any American car ever built in history,it’s a BESTOKE built vehicle to the highest quality for the rich gentry folk, built by the best technition minded engineers which American car makers could not duplicate.i was going to subscribe to your channel but did not because of that disrespectful comment you made Reguarding the wiring system.you should look up the technical data before you start messing with the wiring and saying negative comment😡😡😡😡😡🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
We bought this particular car to learn and experiment with a RR. This car allowed us to learn how they worked and we were able to fix a few customer RR that other shops around us wouldn't touch. RR are a high quality car and we are really fond of the engine, but some of the other systems we aren't particularly fond of. After we got this one we did look up all the technical data we could get our hands on. There is a much nicer 1975 RR in black on our channel that we fixed and kept original.
Good work guys but now you can perhaps make the engine sound more Rolls-Royce
Take care of those wheel covers , they are worth more than the car !
They are being well cared for in a safe place
The state of the floor in the boot tells you it's a parts car, sad end to what was once a grand old lady.
We suspect a leaky battery caused the trunk rot. Its a pity it got left unchecked for long enough to go that far.
It´s a car for real and highly trained and skilled mechanics, not for amateurs..It´s better to sale some parts and not to try to restore this wreck with your skills and resources..I am sad of seeing this end of gorgeous luxury vehicle...
The guys have came pretty far with this one, the fact that they were able to get it running and driving from being neglected so many years is a pretty big feat in itself. No one around us would touch this car with a ten pole to try and even get it running lol. We aren't concerned with keeping it original or restoring it, the goal is to just make it work. It is pretty sad that whoever had this car previously didn't take care of it and let it waste away.
yay another rolls video. it def needs to be hot rodded
AGH!.... you are jesting!...... sacrilege! (says clutching pearls)... Rolls Royce here, not a Ford.😉
The brakes and the hydraulic suspension is connected, it uses RR mineral oil, it works from two hydraulic pumps on the camshaft, it’s also assisted by two nitrogen accumulators which may need to be overhauled & recharged, the whole system has to be bled while the car is running. And check for leaks which there probably is. This is not a car you can wing it and figure it out. The engine sounds good and has value if sold on its own. The differential is probably OK. The half shaft most likely fell out because of a broken check strap. The prices and expertise to fix is beyond the value of the car. Parts car.
It’s definitely on our long term project list, it does move around the yard on its own now.
WOW! I bet your neighbors love having you guy in the hood. What a mess.
Everything right now is a disaster! We've had to move cars and shuffle things around due to the major construction in front of the shop. They took a large section of our property to widen the road. We are working on getting everything straightened out again.
As the English say "it needs to be sorted".
Interesting video. Please remember there is no such thing as a cheap Rolls -Royce or Bentley vehicle ,then and now .I think because your 1971 Silver Shadow is so far gone .It would only really make a suitable parts -donor cars. You could make your money back ,this way....
If the guys were trying to keep it all original it would definitely get pretty expensive really quick. It is a shame someone let it get in this condition but it's been a great change of scenery to work on this one and get it running again. There is no one around us that would even attempt to do something with an old Rolls and the guys took on the challenge.
You know there probably a workshop manual for that thing.
Would be a good investment
Henry Royce must be spinning in his grave……….
It's sad that the previous owner let it go to ruin. It was on it's way to becoming bean cans before we picked it up.
Imagine the person who imported this over here new
Wondering how a Rolls Royce got into this condition??????
The cost of properly maintaining high line cars along with low resale value for many years tends to be what gets cars like this abandoned.
You can retrofit these with a Big Block Chevy 350 . Was the craze some years ago and Kits are still available . Yes , definitely over Engineered and probably helped lead to their demise and buyout .
The funny thing is that unless you over rev it the big 6.7 rolls engine isn’t even a major problem itself. The fuel delivery however is more of a headache to deal with.
No kit available for Rolls Royce. You are likely thinking about Jaguars. If you find a RR kit, please update.
The point of a Rolls-Royce is the quality of its engineering. You may call that 'over engineered' but Rolls-Royce would say 'Sufficient for purpose'.
And their was no 'demise' of Rolls-Royce cars. The Company had developed a huge aerospace division and the development of the then RB211 engine had caused the business to enter into administration. Its assets were bought by the UK Government which decided to separate off the Rolls Royce Motors division in 1971 after which it stood on its own. The British engineering company Vickers bought it in 1980 and it became a very successful business.
Vickers demerged RR Motors in 1998 by selling it to VW (who retained Bentley) for £430 Mn which is not a price one pays for a failed business. VW then sold certain branding on to BMW who were suppliers to RR Motors.
Sounds like the engine is noisy, could be a warped cylinder head or big end bearing, engine should be inspected. Sounds rough as hell, RR engines are not meant to sound like that.
The exhaust is rusted off the car. The engine itself is quiet however there is a lot of exhaust noise.
To make the most out of the car (which is worth very good money) it needs careful diagnostic and repair.
If you don't know much about Rolls Royces I'd sell it to somebody who knows what makes these ars tick.
Where we are from these cars only command 10-12k in good condition, it's not really worth putting any real money into other than just getting it running and driving for our own amusement. Whoever owed this car neglected it and let it sit for 30+ years.
Rolls royce 1971
Sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!! (BABVVEN & TEBBVEN & BEFVO laws)!!!
Hotrod it. Nothing else makes sense.
This is not a rolls royce this is a parts car
Hello, this from a hooptie Rolls Royce connoisseur, under all that Rolls Royce crap is a Chevy 350 engine, 400 transmission. Throw on a Chevy 350 manifold and carb of your choice, and be done with all that crazy fuel port crap.
YES! We noticed that fairly early on that at it's core that's exactly what it is. That may be the route we end up taking with the manifold/carb combination.
A great shame to let a beautiful motor car like this fall into such a decrepit state. Very sad.
yes indeed
Yes "The English"😆😆😆..... never mind, we got a few things right😉...be carful you don't slip with that drill and go through your knee.... that was a bit cringe worthy to watch.
Had a few mishaps with power tools myself.
That would have been bad! Thankfully we haven't had too many incidents with power tools.
Get it cleaned first thing first☝ 🤷♂️
Блин вроде премиум машина, а так сгнила, Форды 50х годов и то в лучшем состоянии
Over engineered junk
The hydralic spheres need to be removed sent off and exchanged for new ones.the 14 flex hoses replaced the oring seals on the pushrods replaced .the rear rams for the self leveling join the lines together to bypass the rams.and bleed the system you may get brakes back.the calipers have to be split and new seals and polish the pistons.its alot of work the brakes shops charged me $3500 each time I he'd the system overhauled so I ordered the videos from the rolls royce owners club and learned how to do the whole job minus the spheres those are exchanged is cheapest. There's a pair of valves under the the car and a master cyl for the rear brakes have to overhaul all 3 of those.and bleed at all points. The flex hose in the front there's a pair of hoses there when those collapse the front brake get stuck on.once you know the system and understand it you can tackle it.on my 83 rolls the roll restrictor valve is stuck so I'm going to eventually send it to a shop to get it unfrozen as I have no lift.th3 spheres you change with large channel locks they ,simply, unscrew.
Thanks for the input.
