Thanks FargNet0: Glad you enjoyed it. If you really want to pick up a new skill such as caning I suggest a good book and like any skill lots of practices!
What you have is a chair that takes machine cane. Machine Cane is a prewoven mat that is held onto the chair with a spline that fits into the grove holding the woven mat in place. This is a much newer type of cane and is much faster to install than hand cane.
The distance between holes is a direct relation to the size of the cane the seat was designed to be woven with. For example a chair woven in medium cane would have a hole spacing of 11/16 center to center.
Is there a standard for the hole location and size? I have an old rocker that had a stamped leather seat and back and would like to cane them. I'm not sure where to locate the holes and what size to make them. Thanks Mike

I found an old rocking chair, but It looks like it has an edge of slim wood around the edge holding the weave in? no holes visible top or bottom.

Thank you very much for your video. I would like to know how you knot two pieces of cane? There is a special knot for cane weaving. Thank you.
I don't use any special knot, mostly the cane is just wrapped around each other underneath the chair.
what is the regular distance between those holes ?
