i think this video ran a little long and i repeated myself a couple of times. i did it because i wanted to 'memory jog' from earlier talking points but it still worries me. hope ya enjoy it though rofl Edit: HunterStiles651 has brought up a golden elite who doesn't one shot me at 1:01:51. I went back to record footage after my heroic play through, purely to showcase graphics/sound and I did that on lower difficulty. The reflection on the armour was one of these things. Good catch dude and I should have put a note in, thank you! Edit: I've got mixed reports about the actual engine being used for Halo in the MCC edition. I'm obviously not knowledgeable about this subject, I am just happy it works, but I am sorry if I've made any statements in the video that are factually wrong Edit: still can't believe nobody has called me out about 14:36 i got away with it completely and down here nobody will read this
@@subwaytovenus3237 Ayyyy dude! How ya doing? I won't lie that is exactly what I thought rofl. I proof watched about 6 times so that's my limit! But damn thank you for being here right as it goes up. I hope ya enjoy the video I really do
@@reallylatereviews I've been well mate! Hope you're doing well! I also had never played Halo until last year and I couldn't agree more with the newer graphics just losing the atmosphere and vibe; so glad it had the option to revert to the original.
Glad to hear it and yeah I am good thanks! And damn you played it recently too! Yeah I think those original visuals are just stellar, hard to believe they altered things so much. So glad they are still there else there would have been a riot haha!
Thing is it is sort of technically the same old BLAM engine in MCC, it's running through layers of Saber's engine and UE4 for MCC UI stuff all wrapped around it, but it's there, if you download the SDK on steam, it's basically the same SDK in many ways to the SDK Halo Custom Edition got on PC around 2003 or so and funnily most modding breaks the "Anniversary" engine part (since that's not so moddable) so it forces you to play with the classic graphics & engine, which I think is just fine. Also awesome review, I played the original Gearbox port of Halo back in 2003, it's not a good port, has issues (that 343i fixed a 90% of in MCC around 2020-2022), but I still loved the PC port as a teen because it was fun for all the reasons you said, I played a lot of Half-Life, and Aliens vs Predator 1-2, Max Payne, Jedi Outcast, trying to remember what else a ton, but I remember Halo felt unique among FPS games at the time because of the vehicle-melee-grenade emphasis and the AI was awesome in 2003 (the cloak + AI made Halo kind of superior as a predator simulator than AVP for me lol), Still felt awesome even when upgrading and playing later stuff like FEAR. Do NOT play the Halo 2 vista port please, don't listen to weird comments saying it doesn't count if you play the MCC version, the vista port is even more broken than the Gearbox port and it's still the same Halo engine underneath all the layers & wrappers Saber & 343i have built around it. (I think personally classic graphics for Halo 2 still shine bright though many seem to prefer the Anniversary for H2, but to me Anniversary cutscenes felt directed by Michael Bay, some subtle character animations and camera work is lost in anniversary cutscenes, also don't like the anniversary OST, SFX and some art like Elite designs in Anniversary compared to Classic, it is certainly a better remaster than Halo 1 though overall) Library s**ks, but one minor comment on what you were saying, you said dumping the exposition in it was a bad choice, but to me in hindsight it seems almost deliberate when you consider the cutscene in Two Betrayals where Guilty Spark acts like you should know what is going to happen, but he didn't at all consider that you were too busy surviving and shooting to pay attention to his badly timed ramblings in the background where if you had actual peace and quiet to focus on what 343 was saying you'd start questioning it since he did sort of say what Cortana spelled out about what Halo the ring does (though that too, could potentially be considered deliberate, that 343 leaned in on the time pressure, chaos and crisis to obfuscate what really would happen if you help him).
In 2006 I put the Halo PC Demo installer onto my high school "Network Drive," because that was a small enough file, and I could install it daily as needed. In 2007, all the other engineering students did the same thing, and we had LAN party Halo games during class, lunch, and before the school day started. 😂 It was epic
Dude thats genius. I thought I was clever for running VLC off a USB stick to watch Star Trek but holy smokes that's fucking great, and with everyone playing it as well hot damn. I wanna quickly add thank you for watching and leaving a comment on my video! And a good story too haha! Thank you, I appreciate it!
In 2008 at my college, my buddies and I would download it on our class computers since the internet speeds were super fast. The fun was short lived since the built-in lag started ruining their interest, and they switched over to CS 1.6 just after a few days.
I used to use command prompt to reenable the default local administrator account and I'd just do literally whatever I wanted because it was outside the network user account controls. 🤣
Fun fact regarding Keyes at 32 minutes: Marines have a taunt_corpse option where they will walk up to a corpse and say a line and/or shoot it. Keyes always has a Needler on Truth and Reconciliation, so during play testing, he would kill himself from the supercombines by shooting corpses. They patched that up very quickly.
For fuck sake rofl. aw man. This guy doesn't keep his gun loaded, doesn't take cover and he blows himself up too. How did he get a command position Let me say thank you for watching and commenting, especially with this background fact, I love this. Thank you!
@@reallylatereviewsThanks. I forgot to say it in my original comment, but I really liked your video, especially your Sci-Fi Stereotypes chapter. Halo is its own game, but respectfully makes homages to Sci-Fi that came before it and I think you explained that point well.
You both making me wanna play through these games on every difficulty and it's not gonna work! I know what you're up to! (real talk thank you for commenting and watching my video! that is a really neat detail that I totally missed, so thank you!)
Thank you and I couldn't agree more. I really am not a guy who stresses over that. I played HD Bloodrayne, cleaner textures for Dragon's Dogma, etc... But wow the tone is just smashed apart in this remaster. Shame Thank you again! For watching and commenting too, I appreciate that a lot so thank you!
So don't laugh I wrote that and then the more I thought about it, the more the penny dropped rofl. But I left it in because I wanted to get that Bioshock Infinite thing off my chest. I'm also going to say thank you for watching! And for commenting too! I appreciate it so thank you! (especially as you're very kind about my backwards logic on that line)
Yup, Halo CE revolutionized the FPS genre. Before this game you had unlimited weapon slots that you could cycle through. I believe it was also one of the first FPS games to use regenerating health/shields. It might've also been the first game to relegate melee and grenades to their own buttons instead of just being a weapon that you have to switch to.
The reason the guns feel so good is from a smart design philosophy bungee had. “A weapon should feel overpowered when it is doing its intended role” so if your using a sniper like a sniper, a rocket launcher like a rocket launcher, exedra, it feels good cause its doing its job excellently.
I missed your comment I'm sorry man but I wanted to say that makes perfect sense and honestly, what a good idea. I've always said the mindset of overpowered things in games has slowly degraded over years to where everything has to be balanced against everything else, instead of it's own area of expertise. This is why Overwatch started so strong and is now a shadow of it's former self (hero countering has been replaced by 'strongest avenger' gameplay.) I'm just glad that they can't go back and change Halo lol (i hope) Thank you for watching and commenting as well! I'm sorry for the late reply! Thank you again!
You said Jackals (shieldy boys) are annoying to fight but here's a tip: You can shoot them through the hole in the shield they shoot you from. They flinch and then you can kill them without breaking the shield.
I'm gonna respond to your other comments here my dude if that's cool! First off that is really helpful, I think this is a weak point in my review as they just frustrated me so much that my patience in fighting them was gone. I ended up just punching them. Knowing this though, I might have tried to shoot them a bit more carefully! Likewise the hunters, the one shot from the pistol makes sense, but I never tried to hang onto any weapon except the Assault Rifle purely because I enjoyed it so much. Lastly the AI comment, I'm stuck in the past. So when I say good AI for the time, I mean compared to games that would come out in the next 9 years. If you've see any footage of Star Wars Outlaws, you'll know I agree with you and AI (at least in big releases) is a fuckin joke now Sorry for big reply but wanted to answer your comments! Let me say thank you as well for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it! So thank you!
This made me laugh so much. You can read your whole comment in a phone notification and it really caught me off guard earlier rofl. Thank you for watching and for commenting, especially with this. I appreciate it, thank you.
Two things of note: A) There is a flashlight tutorial, but as you saw the game skips tutorials on heroic+ because it assumes you know what you're doing. B) The people popping in & out of existence on the reveal cutscene is because of broken 16:9 framing. The game was originally intended for 4:3, but the port fails to properly frame the cutscene for 16:9, which results in you seeing more than you're supposed to. Also, fun fact, the games no-longer work properly in 4:3 monitors. Halo CE/2/3 all worked properly on 4:3 displays, but H2A's HUD doesn't scale properly, like at all, in the remastered graphics and H3's HUD is just fixed at 16:9 & shrunk to fit the 4:3 display, leaving a bunch of empty space above and below the HUD. The original 360 release properly sized the HUD for 4:3 displays. It's a minor gripe, but as someone who still enjoys using CRT monitors for FPSes, especially for games of the era where you almost certainly would have used a CRT to play them, it's disappointing to see they no-longer work correctly. Also, H2A's graphics are better in almost every way than the original, and I would recommend you use them. However, while H2's graphics are often considered a downgrade since they were meant to be used with lighting the game didn't have, I still think they look charming & hold their own pretty decently.
I had heard about both the first two things so far but not that it no longer works at all in 4:3, that is such a crying shame. I respect you keeping a CRT as well, I wish I had kept mine I really do. I'm gonna take a look at both the original and remaster for Halo 2 but yeah the general consensus is the update looks good. The missing lighting information is helpful as well thank you! I'll add another thank you, for watching and commenting, I appreciate that! So thank you!
I strongly encourage you to play Halo 2 on the original graphics. Despite the impressiveness of the remastered graphics and cinematic, they aren’t faithful to the OG.
H2A's cutscenes are gorgeous, but for gameplay you have to use classic graphics. 343's artstyle is way too visually busy and doesn't capture the same vibe as Bungie's games
@@Weewoo12 I don't fully agree. I do for H1A, but there were times playing H2A where I forgot I was playing on remastered graphics. It felt so normal that I _forgot_ it was remastered, and I mean that in the best way possible. Sure, there are some things that I wish had more care, for example, the carbine ammo counter actually working and the Grave mind door sounds not being quite right, but overall I think they did a great job. I do love the cutscenes, but I wish they stuck with in-game rendered cutscense, the cutscenes are honestly what stand out the most for me.
This is why I like playing the first 2 games from their original ports to pc with custom edition and project cartographer then emulating halo 3 playing in 4:3 for the first two is nice and feels right plus I don’t have to buy MCC
All I can say to that is thank you. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to leave kind words, and for watching my video. It means a lot it really does. I'm not too worried about being a big channel, I just hope people enjoy my videos :D Thank you!
It makes me happy that you were able to understand basic things like the way Halo’s jump works and always running at the fastest pace possible. People say that Halo NEEDS sprint or needs all these unnecessary movement abilities, not understanding why the decisions not to have those things in Halo was on purpose in the first place.
Oh man I couldn't agree more. I grew up playing games that had a walk button. You had to push an extra button to SLOW down. Now you have to push one to speed up, like wtf they think I wanna be doing when I'm not walking? Master Chief goes for a slow jog I hate it. Anyway thank you so much for watching and commenting, I really do appreciate it! Thank you!
4:17 There is a funny misconception about the jump. You see, the jump actually features realistic gravity, it's just that no human is capable of jumping so high with his legs alone. As a result it ends up feeling weird even though it's accurate. Most games actually either feature a much weaker jump (Half-Life 2) or apply a much higher gravity than in reality (DukeNukem3D, Blood) in order to make it 'feel' right to the player.
I don't feel as self-conscious about my jumping ability any more. But seriously haha, that's actually fascinating I had no idea and that makes a whole lot of sense when you put it like that. I've even played games and thought "well what is the point of the jump key, if that is the jump" but yeah, now I know. I also wanna say thank you for watching my video and leaving this comment because this is news to me. Thank you!
This is really helpful actually and I've heard this from someone else. I feel it's a weakpoint in my review but I won't lie- those bastards were trying my patience so I punched them all. But haha, I am grateful for the advice! And for taking the time out of your day to watch and comment on my video, thank you!
@reallylatereviews They also cannot move very fast, which means that a close grenade means death for a Jackal 90% of the time. So this enemies reward player for 1) precise shooting; 2) wise grenade management; 3) risky melee diving. And they punish player from mindless rushing.
@@ghilean1174 That's something I hadn't considered, I think I was just too angry at them haha! (Also thank you for this insight, for watching and commenting! Thank you!)
Ususally Mr. O' Donnel Spawns in to such chats from seemingly no where. Even though I am a young Halo fan(18 years old), living in a third world country meant Halo CE was the first game I ever played and I played it in 2016 let's say(about 10), I still have PTSD from that one flood level and all those "Potato Creatures" as I explained to all my friends at school...gave me genuine nightmares, still does to this day honestly. The Library, as a grueling level after the Swamp, where every second was shuddering fear. When will this door open? Small tunnels feel smaller from exploding potatoes and then Bam straight into two betrayals....now the flying robots too.. I recently started HALO 2 for the first time and have played until you ride the Gondola to high charity....I do not know what kind of relationship I have with HALO, but the "alienness" and the feeling of "isolation", has had me put down the game for months before I played it again. Or was it a reflection of my own fears, an only child whose parents both work 7-6 . 8 hours of an empty aura with the lonely corridors of HALO.
I don't even know what to say to that but that was a fantastic read. Gosh. I never thought about the isolation present in the game, that's really something. I want to add thank you for watching and commenting, I really appreciate that.
aw no what have i done rofl. Nah I'm hoping to do up to 4. I started this whole thing to make one joke, and it pays off with Halo 4. I'm crazy. But I can say thank you in earnest for watching and leaving a comment, and it really means a lot to me that someone wants to see me make more. So thank you!
In the original Gearbox port you had to use TAB to cycle between your 2 weapons. And of course it is "one of those games", they invented the 2 weapons system.
Damn I mean I can see why they changed off the tab key but it still feels like a strange button to choose. Also as for the 2 weapons yeah I wrote that, and later on I realised what I'd said was silly. But I really wanted to take a shot at Bioshock Infinite haha, it doesn't feel good in that game at all. Let me say thank you as well for watching and commenting! I appreciate it, so thank you!
Ayyy ya know what, there is no missing things. If you didn't get to do it earlier, you can do it when and if you feel like it. And if you decide not to, or you can't, then it probably wasn't worth doing anyway :P All that being said, I am really glad I can make these videos and really glad you want to watch them! So let me thank you for watching and commenting, I appreciate it! Thank you!
I’m glad you got to play this after it was fixed! MCC uses the 2003 Gearbox PC port of CE (as it was the version that supported online multiplayer) which had many, MANY graphical issues. A while ago it finally got fixed so now you can play CE as it originally was save for the main menu, loading screens, and 4:3 aspect ratio.
I'm glad too haha I've read a couple of stories on here! It felt like a very smooth experience so whatever may be lost to time, it's a great game for the end user. Also you're absolutely right about the two weapon limit, after I wrote that line I realised how silly it was. But I wanted to take that shot at Bioshock Infinite rofl Thanks for watching! And for commenting! I appreciate it, thank you!
I believe the game tells you what key your flashlight is if you are playing on easy or normal difficulty, there is a whole tutorial sequence on those difficulties. For some reason they remove this for the harder two difficulties
That sounds entirely true as I saw a bit of that tutorial, yet weirdly I missed the flashlight even though I went back on normal rofl. Of course I did. Thank you as well for watching and commenting as well! I appreciate it! So thank you!
For part of Halo's development is was related to Marathon, which is obvious in the shared design language and naming but mostly exist as fun callbacks for the aware. A lot of it was dropped when the IP went to 343 studios, including replacing some parts in the MCC editions.
The plasma rifle has a feature that to my knowledge is broken on the mcc. (and the Gearbox port which the mcc uses) Plasma rifle slows down the enemy movement when they are hit by it. The needler is primarily meant to be used by the AI, which is why it's kinda weird in the sandbox. Also i unironically like Library, because of how chaotic it is.
I think that's entirely fair to like the Library, the chaos is unmatched in any other level I will say that. And that explains why the plasma rifle feels so underwhelming, that is such a shame. I'm gonna quickly add thank you! For watching and commenting, I appreciate it! So thank you!
That's lovely! I think if your game is more like Halo than modern FPS's you won't have any problems haha Thanks as well for watching and commenting, I'm grateful so thank you!

This review was surprisingly great, I just subscribed! Love the fact you went through it with the original visuals and sound, and the summary at the end giving us the brief history leading up to its release was a great touch. The Bungie era of Halo was amazing, and it's awesome to see people still click with the games even now so many years later. It'll be awesome to see the reviews for the later games, this was top notch.
I always worry about the brief history bit haha, both for taking up someone's time and in case I get things wrong to the point I let down fans of the game. But I want to do it for games that really click with me. I did it for Resi 4 but not for Grim Dawn because that video was nearly 2 hours rofl I was pushing it. I'm rambling I'm sorry Let me please ramble one second more and say thank you so much for watching, commenting and for subscribing. That really means a lot to me and reading you wanna watch more Halo videos, that's just lovely, thank you!
As a kid I actually loved the library. Me and my sister used to play it like it was a zombie horde gauntlet. I was terrified of the flood because of the swamp level and the flood canyon level under the covenant ship. but the library actually let me get over the fear through letting me mow down hundreds of them. It's a strange take but I saw the library as a test of endurance.
I don't think that's a strange take at all, it's nice to see something differently. That's great and I wish I had seen it like that rofl. Thank you for sharing this and for watching as well! I appreciate it, so thank you!
1:01:51Fun fact: It's not just that some of the cutscenes are recorded gameplay, almost everything is, they actually had to disable a rock in the swamp cutscene as they already made the recording. The dropships are all recorded playback, something they had to change a lot every time the physics or trees changed. Some of the fighters are also recorded playback, recognizable by the cockpit being open. Since you are done with the game now, I recommend watching the Halo CE Developer Commentary & Halo Developer speedrun react. Both are an hour and a half and provide a lot of context about the development.
That's actually nuts, I never would have guessed even the dropships were recorded. I think I might just do that haha, I try to stay away from everything related to a game until I finish writing a script! But I'll take a look now. That's also a shame about 343 erasing some of the fun callbacks. Sounds about right from what I've heard, even if it was an IP issue. Thanks as well for watching and commenting, I appreciate that I really do especially with the recording insight! Thank you!
The reason why you see 2 medpacks scattered everywhere is cause of Co-Op. Would suck to have both players get there and only one medkit when they both have only one bar of hp left... which leads to "hey kill me so i can get my health back via respawn, just dont take my ammo and guns" The other thing with the lack of them in some levels, while in single player, backtrack! Thats the corner stone of old school shooters. Halo CE sits in an odd (and much loved by me) spot. Its the start of modern shooters, backtracking wouldn't be out the box thinking back when it came out. Plus with Halo CE being the game to popularize regenerative health in an FPS i could easily see the devs thoughts of "the player has shields, they dont need medkits all the time" kinda like first game syndrome for the health system. Just my 2 cents.
Okay so don't laugh. I became aware of co-op after I finished making the video. I never claim to be good at reviewing video games, but this one is embarassing even for me rofl. That does make a lot of sense. And as for the backtracking you're right and I did do it a few times, but on Truth and Reconciliation I'll be honest, there was nothing to backtrack to. I used them all haha But both your two cents are on the money, and I wish I'd have at least mentioned the backtracking. I also wanna say thank you for watching and commenting, I appreciate that I really do. Thank you!

I tell you something that absolutely is why I make these videos. I played Bayonetta at a low point, definitely not the worst time in my life, but the time I'd become most numb. One fun thing to do with plasma grenades is throw one and immediately throw another in the same EXACT place, the first one will propel the second directly up and it'll explode in the air. Another cool thing about grenades in CE that not many know about is that you can actually set off grenades with the sniper rifle. Also, since you seem to be a fan of details, thought I'd mention some details on the third person weapon models, I know you said you're not a gun nut, but I am, so I notice these things XD So everything I'm gonna mention pertains to 3rd person weapon models, aka weapons NPCs or players in multiplayer are holding, not the 1st person ones. Starting with the MA5b, you can see the bolt operate when it's being fired and more impressively the ammo counter AND compass both work, so you can actually see how much ammo a marine has. The slide on M6D is animated, same with the pump on the shotgun and bolt on the sniper. The heat indicators on the plasma pistol and rifle as well as the venting ports opening are shown, so you can technically see when another player is, or is about to, overheat a plasma rifle. Also the needler shows an accurate amount of needles. Having this kind of detail for a game in 2001 is pretty insane, even for a PC game, let alone a console exclusive at the time. At least a few people on the dev team were big gun nerds for sure XD PS. Most of this is not in the remastered graphics and in fact these details were downgraded more and more for every Halo game after
Sorry I missed your comment the other day my dude it's really difficult to keep up at the moment! First off, I love that no I had no idea you could set them off with the rifle haha! I did manage to do something similar to what you described with the grenades but there are a lot of details here I missed, especially regarding the 3rd person models. It was hours until I even saw the heat gauge on the gun itself. To think they take all this out in the remaster is a travesty, hot damn. I wanna also add thank you for watching and commenting, especially with details I've missed like the animated bolt operation for another marine's gun. And the compass? That is just insane. Thank you!
@@Bulbman123 Are you kidding this is part of why I make these videos haha! I also can't shake the feeling I've seen your name before but my memory is shocking. So if you've commented before and I've forgotten I am sorry. If you haven't don't worry about it :D
The lifeboat marines were meant to survive the landing and accompany Master Chief, but the developers couldn't figure out how to keep them from accidentally walking off the first bridge, so they just made them die in the crash. On replays, you will notice that the covenant landing party never crosses that bridge, and the only time you ever have marines near a bridge is when they are with you in a vehicle.
That's insane rofl. I wish I'd known that when I made this I'd love to have brought it up. Thank you so much for stopping by to watch and comment, especially with this gem cause I had no idea. Thank you!
I have definitely watched grunts walk across the bridge to attack me. But maybe that was fixed in MCC? I could see it being a genuine issue with marine AI. Though, from a story-perspective, I think their deaths have more impact on you, and you realize how much more powerful you are.
Great video. I always love hearing a new perspective on my favorite game. I also really appreciate that you judged the game as a product of its time because even though Halo CE holds up great today, it's still 23 years old (same age as me).
Ayyy happy birthday! Is the first thing I thought to type, yet it makes no sense - a sign of aging that you've got to look forward to. But in all seriousness, thank you so much for watching and leaving kind words. Thank you again, I appreciate your time!
See I never would have made that leap without reading this haha. The idea of running around inside a ship with a sniper rifle just felt wrong to me and I never anticipated I'd find more ammo for it Thank you though for this info and thank you for watching as well! I do appreciate it, so thank you!
@@reallylatereviews I had the same issue during my legendary achievement run. In particular I wanted to be careful, but then I just decided to even double shoot grunts.
@@KeithBoehler Dude I think it's clear in the video I struggled at points on heroic but I've never turned the difficulty down before in an FPS. This game on legendary broke me before I even began, so holy smokes to hear you've gone through this on legendary is insane and I have mad respect for that. Double shooting grunts the poor guys there must be nothing left
@@reallylatereviews Well Im a bad shot so shooting twice is just about getting rounds out. CE is the most balanced in Legendary tho, with 2 being the most broken. I found the covanant missions to be harder in general than the flood, particularly truth and reconciliation. Two bytrals start is very hard, but smoothness out (still a bit too long). Personally I also came to like the libary gun and run, but it is a bit too long. You should give legendary a try tho. Just be sure to break from the "im saving this gun" just use it and have fun.
I tell ya maybe one day but I think Legendary is a bit beyond me haha! I'm not a good shot either but worse, I play like I'm invincible. Never a good combination But I can see what you're saying about the covenant missions being harder, especially given how predictable the flood tends to be.
Thank you my dude for your kind words and for watching my video as well. Holy smokes, thank you! I don't worry too much about having a big channel, I just hope I can make videos that entertain people, being either a trip down memory lane or show some classics to people who missed them. Thank you again!
God, Halo is truly a perfect game. The OG Bungie crew are god-tier devs. I'm thankful that at the age of 11 i was blessed with Halo and it set the mold for what my brain would deem sufficient lol.
Honestly it sounds like both the golden age of Halo and Bungie. It feels like it haha so I don't blame you for thinking this at all. Thank you as well for watching and commenting! I appreciate it, so thank you!
"Can't help but praise the AI for the time" Has AI even gotten better? Like, at all? It's mostly just been graphics. In fact, I think AI has gotten dumber over time. Devs just don't really work on AI anymore as a selling point.
Probably already mentioned but the controls you showed were accurate to Combat Evolved pc for a great deal of time until 343 changed them in the pc version of the Chief Collection.
That's what I am hearing yeah, sounds like they couldn't leave well enough alone but the game runs smooth enough. So I can't grumble. Thank you! For watching and commenting, I appreciate it!
I can't describe watching someone play for the first time one of the first games I ever played and still return to from time to time. I didn't know I needed this, I am looking forward to halo 2 but more importantly halo 3
I tell ya I describe watching my own gameplay footage as painful haha. But in all seriousness, I wanna say thank you for watching and commenting. Especially as you brought up the sequels, I will get to them eventually. Thank you!
Rofl I worried a bit when I wrote that. This is the longest running whine I've ever done, I just hope it's entertaining. Although the Library is shit Thank you! For watching, for commenting, and letting mw know I'm in the same boat as everyone else with that level :D I appreciate it, thank you!
I respect that. I think it's not the chapter for me but I like that some people embrace it head on haha Thanks as well for watching and taking the time to comment, I appreciate it! Thank you!
Thank you! Not just for watching but for leaving kind words and subscribing too! I have a couple of projects going on but Halo 2 is coming up after! Thank you so much!
About the jackals (shield guys), you can shoot them in the hole they use to shoot at you Also you can use the needler while straffing to the left so they can't block your projectiles
I just wanna pop in here and thank you for watching and commenting on my video! I appreciate that! You're absolutely right about the jackals, I just think they tested my patience so much I just had more fun punching them haha. I've also heard about the MCC breaking some classic visuals and that is a shame, it really is.
Ayy thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it and it's lovely to hear you've come back to see more! That means a lot to me so thank you! And thank you for commenting kind words as well, I appreciate it!
52:14 Wait till you get to Halo 2. Sargeant Johnson's dialogue gets a massive upgrade. Damn near every word that comes out of his mouth in Halo 2 and 3 is a meme. And in Halo 2, you get introduced to the absolute GOAT, The Arbiter. 52:30 Yeah. This is a flaw with the first two Halos that doesn't really get talked about often. They're dark, literally. With the default gamma it's not an uncommon occurrence that you can barely see your hand in front of your face, which is an issue in a game where the primary gameplay loop is looking at things and clicking on them. I actually recommend turning the Gamma up from the default 5 to 6, which is enough to slightly improve visibility but not to the degree that it affects the atmosphere. 1:01:52 How did you survive that? I thought you were playing on Heroic. Getting hit by a Golden Elite's energy sword should be instant death.
First off dude well spotted on the energy sword hit. I mentioned I went back in on normal to get extra footage. This included some up close shots of the Golden Elites to show off the reflection haha! I can't even prove I finished the game on Heroic, because although the "Beachhead" achievement popped for me, the "Believe in a Hero" one did not. I've had completion achievements bug before (Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous) but I don't link my Steam profile anyway so it's a moot point rofl. I can only ask that you trust me I like the gamma suggestion, I should have thought to fiddle with it but I really did like the moody shadows. I'm also more excited for Halo 2 than I ever imagined after reading comments rofl. I was worried Johnson wouldn't be returning but this is what I wanted to hear Lastly please let me say thank you, not just for commenting but for watching my video too. And also for pointing out the energy sword thing genuinely, because although I don't take myself seriously, I do try and hold my videos to a standard that a viewer can trust. I should have elaborated on that with a note or something. Thank you again!
@reallylatereviews Oh BTW, part of the problem you had with T&R is that you didn't keep the Sniper Rifle. You're meant to keep it for the whole level. It has twice the maximum ammo capacity of a normal Sniper Rifle and there's ammo for it lying around all over the place. I don't blame you for ditching though. I made that mistake on my first playthrough. I think most people do because the game doesn't communicate that it wants you to not throw the Sniper Rifle away the second it runs out of ammo at all.
@@HunterStiles651 The sniper rifle holy smokes yeah I am hearing this haha! But you're absolutely right on both points because I'm thinking "tight corridors inside a ship. Who'd bring a sniper rifle?" Also to be really truthful, I think I was out of assault rifle ammo and needed to pick up a plasma pistol so I was never gonna find that sniper rifle again.
I'm pretty sure checkpoints were broken after an update a while back. They never used to be so infrequent, especially on the OG Xbox version. Edit: Also touching on the dark cutscene mentioned a few times, the gamma in MCC was fucked when they switched the menus to Unreal Engine, so all of the games appear darker than their originals. I think setting the gamma to 5.6-ish is roughly how the games should look.
I've read about the gamma tip before and I didn't even stop to think of that but thank you because it would of helped me big time. However the bugged checkpoints, this is news to me, although thinking back that makes sense. There were times I ran through areas and didn't trigger a checkpoint but if I died and did it again, I would - I assumed it was linked to enemies remaining in the area. I also didn't playtest on normal, so there might have actually been more checkpoints and I didn't even think of that until now. Long reply sorry! Quickly I'll add thank you for watching and commenting! I do appreciate it, so thank you!
I just came from your comment on my GD video, thank you holy smokes for watching another video. That really makes me smile, thank you! And I will get around to Halo 2, I gotta do Hitman Blood Money first :P But it's on it's way. I only know two things about Halo 2's weapons. They changed the assault rifle, and dual wielding haha Thank you!
Oh god 'that one little allusion' is an entire rabbit hole that never gets addressed at all and only makes sense if you decide that for some reason you need to fall into the Wonderland that is Bungie's Marathon series.
Oh no rofl. I figured it would be solved by Halo 2, wishful thinking. If I have to go to a whole other game series that's a bit of a rabbit hole holy moly. Even Lost didn't do that But unfinished stories aside I will say thank you, for watching and commenting on my video! I appreciate it! Thank you!
@@reallylatereviews Listen Halo 1 is functionally a sequel and re-use of ideas that didn't make it into the Marathon series. The later Halo games go more in their own direction but are still covered in the symbology of Marathon. You've been seeing Marathon references without even realizing it.
I clearly didn't read up on Halo enough haha! I try not to when I do these videos so I can go in fresh but damn, that really is crazy. Worst of all is I never knew anything about Marathon until I played Halo. I would have assumed it was a sports game
@@reallylatereviews Marathon, the original, actually starts similar to Halo (if you read its manual) as a cyborg soldier woken up from cryosleep, handed a scoped magnum pistol, and told to go fight off an alien collective that's boarded the ship. And then somehow escalates from there. Later Halo games will also recycle concepts from Marathon such as AI rampancy. So while you don't need a ground floor understanding of Marathon to get Halo, if you know Marathon and its deeper plot (which is still being untangled and sorted to its day) you can gain a deeper appreciation of Halo 1. Fun fact the Flood were supposed to actually show up in Marathon 2: Durandal in the Citadel chapter, but they were cut for being too hard to implement.
@@WiserOdin Like Robert Patrick as liquid terminator! That's great I love stuff like that, seeing original ideas that didn't make it in, come back when they're able to be done right. I do love that they really got their money's worth for that narrative as well. Although it's hard to argue with such a classic sci fi soldier origin story as "we thawed him out."
Great video. Wish i could replay the games for the first time. They have all aged better than just about any other game and especially for an FPS is pretty crazy.
Yeah I couldn't agree more. It feels timeless playing through this for the first time. I wanna add thank you for commenting and watching too! Thank you!
If you ever replay the game, try pacing yourself with sniper ammo on truth and reconciliation, theres still sniper ammo in the ship and it can help you alot. I love this game haha awesome vid and good rip on the library, it ain't a halo review without people suffering on it
You're the second person to mention the sniper rifle and yeah holy moly, I just never imagined running around the inside of a ship with a sniper rifle was what I should do haha! I feel dumb but I'm grateful for the info! Let me also say thank you for watching and stopping to leave kind words as well, I really appreciate it. And I am glad my library suffering goes enjoyed rofl. Thank you!
I've been playing Halo for more than a decade but I can always sit through people talking about the game. Halo CE is one of my first "real" video games so it's nice to see others discover it too! After you play through/review the other games you should take a look at all the Halo 1 mods that have released over the years!
Thank you dude holy smokes and ya know what maybe so cause I do love modding haha. Let me say thank you again for watching and commenting, I can see why this game can be played for so long and hold a player. I really do. Thank you!
As far as remasters go, H2's remaster looked fantastic, maybe a bit to "shiny" at times but overall no compaints. H1's remaster made chief look like a sassy black grandma in a power suit.
rofl for fuck sake. Aw yeah it also packed a whole load of stuff on the back of the really cool looking marines. No longer the sleek armoured space trooper, now a backpacker who just walked out of a surplus store. Let me say thanks for watching and commenting, double so for this, this made me laugh. Thank you!
Thank you dude I'm gonna try and provide more nostalgia haha! (I may do some recent releases from time to time but mostly, older games) Thank you again for watching and commenting!
Probably one of the most entertaining reviews of the iconic Halo CE I've seen over the years! Looking forward to the rest of the trilogy or should I say the rest of the MCC?! ;)
Thank you holy smokes! For such kind words and I plan to do 2-4 at least. I've had requests for basically every other game in the series rofl. I will try I swear. I want to say thank you again for watching and commenting, it does make me want to make more videos, so thank you!
Hey good see you upload another banger. Halo was great back in the day, the music alone justified the purchase. All the best and looking forward to the next review.
Ayyy Constantine! Thank you for coming back again holy smokes! I always appreciate your kind words! I really agree with you as well. The music took me by surprise going in, it's got such a strong score and I can see why the game took off the way it did too. Hope you're doing good and thank you again!
Been enjoying the reviews as I've had time on my hands. I enjoyed playing Halo with friends, LAN-style. Building maps and generally having a good time mirdering each other, but like most fps's isn't *quite* my wheelhouse. I probably put way more time into making interesting combat arenas than anything else. Another sub for the pile, and I'm glad someone else is looking forward to Asterkarn.
Ayyyy I just came from your Grim Dawn comment! Holy smokes, thank you. I can't tell you what a smile it puts on my face to know someone wants to watch more of my videos. Building maps for this sounds like a lot of fun damn, but a lot of work too! I remember the old Tomb Raider Level Editor, that was finicky enough in it's ways. There's a really lovely quality to older FPS maps, they lack clutter and distraction. You rarely get caught on scenery. So I respect you putting more hours into building than shooting. Let me just add, thank you again and thank you for subscribing. I hope I can make more videos you enjoy, I really do.
Amazing review. Really hoping to see ODST and Reach eventially (best campaigns in the series IMO). Also I believe the old Gearbox PC port had manual saving feaure, so checkpoints weren't a problem. Not sure abot OG Xbox version, but I bet it did. More thanks to the remaster.
Ayy I just came from your other comment about the Jackals! I plan to review 2-4 but so many people have requested the other games, I will try to get around to them eventually. I have two other videos to finish first as my HDDs are full rofl. And trust 343 to take out manual saves I will add another thank you here for leaving kind words, thank you!
Immediate 👍 as you decided to play in the classic graphics mode ❤🙏 Fun tidbit, on the og Xbox the game did tell you which buttin was your flashlight, and it was the clear button on the old Duke controller. It always seemed fitting to me as a kid that the clear one meant flashlight. Glad I've found your channel! You commentary on this, my favorite game ever, is hilarious and spot on.
Thank you first of all for your kind words and for watching! I appreciate it, so thank you! And I've also heard that I might not have got the flashlight tutorial because I played on heroic. It makes sense but I never would have guessed. But yeah putting the flashlight on the clear button, I think that's great haha! It is fitting! Thank you again!
Eyy this is such a fun review! For someone new to the franchise, you caught a lotta great details that really elevate Halo CE. Enjoyed this review a lot! Edit: Also you're right about the Covenant's AI. They are very dynamic & reactive. They will stay defensive when low in numbers but wont refuse to charge if numbers deem it so
Ayy glad I wasn't talking out my ass there! It's always a concern but what a testament to Halo's AI that they had that working back then. I also want to say thank you for watching and leaving kind words, I appreciate that I really do. Thank you!
Yeah that looks pretty sick actually rofl. I would have much preferred that over the Jackals. I guess it would have made for an overpowered elite but one every now and then would be fun to fight honestly Let me also say thank you for watching and commenting! I appreciate it, thank you!
It blame that exact issue of NextGen for my ongoing uniterrupted love affair with gaming. I dabbled with the PS1, the N64, the DC and enjoyed them but I never went nuts like I did with the Commodore 64. Once I read that issue and subsequently bought Halo at midnight, that was *it*
I am glad you played on Heroic and not Normal. I watch other first time players play on Normal mode, and while they enjoy it, they easily blast through encounters that were meant to be challenging. The BEST way to play Halo is beat in on Hard, get good, and once you know the game, try it on Legendary, it's a completely different game on Legendary.
Ya know what I had people tell me this on Grim Dawn. I think it's something people reviewing games need to disclose, even if it's just "I can't beat it on hard." I feel like they'll worry about getting judged but my limited experience teaches me people are more concerned with how honest you are than how well you play. I'm rambling, but I agree with you and I'm glad too rofl because heroic was great! Man listen legendary though oooof haha. Maybe one day Sorry for long reply, I just wanted to say thanks! For watching and commenting, I appreciate it! Thank you!
Ayyyy Seiryu!! How are you doing? And thank you holy smokes! I take a little while to make these but I try to get them out hehe :D I know I say it a lot and you know what I'm gonna say, thank you for always taking the time to leave kind words!

Tbh I've never been into Halo ( It's nothing gameplay-related I just don't vibe with them ), but I've always been intrigued by their history, cultural impact, etc. Great video, love your style of video, specially your humour is right up my alley. Also, if possible, I'd love to see your take on Dead Space games. Take care and keep up the good work, love from Iran.
Ayyy thank you! Dead Space, yeah I'll definitely keep it on my mind, I have some other videos planned first though I won't lie. I think Halo's impact has been so vast that it is rather fascinating just how big a part of gaming it's become. Ayy thank you dude! I am planning to do Halo 2-4 (this is actually all for one joke I wanna make in Halo 4. i'm insane) so hopefully I don't keep ya waiting too long! Let me say thank you again for watching and commenting kind words, I appreciate it, thank you!
@reallylatereviews you have a very organic and human way of reviewing. At least from this video, it feels like an invested friend telling me all about a hidden gem they found. Keep it up, you're video reviews feel very organic and fun to watch
It is such a good level, it caught me completely off guard. It's weird how I'll remember more about Halo's level design than I thought I would haha. Thank you! For watching and commenting, I do appreciate it! So thank you!
Thank you! And ya know what I get why it's one of your favorites. Halo took me back to some old time shooters that I really missed. Classic. Thank you again for watching and commenting, I appreciate it! Thank you!
Halo is a wonderful first person shooter game for beginners. Playing it on easy shows the new person on how to operate a controller correctly for first person shooting. This arcade like training game will then open up new windows for other first person shooter games to be played. The Halo video game series has unique techniques to beat the campaign easily on harder difficulties using the following different weapons. Halo Reach = Covenant pistol + Semi Auto Rifle = Win Halo = Human pistol + Covenant pistol = Win Halo 2 = Human battle rifle + Covenant pistol = Win Halo 3 = Same as Halo 2 method = Win Halo ODST = Same as Halo 3 method = Win Halo 4 = Same as Halo 2 + Halo 3 methods = Win If a player follows using these weapon techniques, then they will for sure be able to play the Halo series on harder difficulties all the time.
At around 21 minutes you mention you can't move the tank in the direction you're not shooting, but you're acutally allowed full wasd movement independent of the cannon. I'm sure the other vehicles conditioned you to only hold W, but Halo was designed with controllers in mind so I imagine the thought was that players would notice that the stick is directly controlling the body of the scorpion and so didn't bother explaining it in game. Great video so far!
Just finished the video, saw someone else commented about the relative movement already too lol. Was a good watch and without spazing out as a big Halo nerd I can't recommend more the Bungie-made games and diving more into the development and lore if it's grabbed you so far. The books are suprisingly decent reads tbh. Great work man
Don't even worry about it. You wouldn't believe how many times I got to relive my mistakes in Dragons Dogma and I tell ya something, I never got tired of it haha. If someone takes the time to write a nicely worded comment, to watch my video, and they're trying to help me and other players - that's fantastic. And you even gave a really good reason why the explanation was left out as well. Don't laugh, I've also been recommended the books ROFL. So I will get around to the audiobooks maybe after playing Halo 2, so I can judge it's story on it's own merits. But again this just goes to show how strong fanbases are if you hear the same stuff, it's a passion shared and I love that. I've rambled. Let me add thank you for doing just what I talked about, for taking the time out of your day to watch and leave a kind comment. Thank you. I really do appreciate it.
I'm sorry T&R was such a slog for you. Maybe it's because I played on Normal back in the day, but that was the one mission I would always come back to after I finished the game. I loved the density of enemies and explosions, the set pieces, and the just constant killing. I'm making myself wanna play it again just talking about it 😂 But I do agree with your critique on health pack placement and health management, any higher than Normal difficulty, and I can see how frustrating that is. Wonderful review man, thank you for sending me back down memory lane!
I tell ya T&R was fantastic design wise, I've picked the best and the worst footage I had to emphasise this I guess. I do agree it's such a well designed level and I can understand why even talking about it makes you want to go back haha! As for healthpacks, my Rambo playstyle didn't make my life any easier in there as well so there is that I want to add thank you for watching and taking the time to leave kind words. I appreciate that! So thank you!
19:26 Warthog? Looks more like a big cat to me. Like a puma. In all seriousness though, I'm glad to see people are still going back to a game I grew up with, I hope you do the other Halo games, at least the ones made by Bungie (Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, and Halo: Reach). The 343i Halo games (Halo 4, Halo 5: Guardians, and Halo: Infinite) have been, to say the least, controversial, but not necessarily bad. I will not say anything negative about them because I think it would be best to go into those with an open mind, but be warned, Halo 5 Guardians is the only Halo game that hasn't been ported to PC, and you need an Xbox One to play it.
Haha! Aw so, I plan to do 2-4 because I'm making these for one joke, that pays off in Halo 4. It's not even gonna be that funny. But a lot of people, a friend included, have said do Reach/ODST so I may look at it, if I do it'll be after I take a break from Halo reviews :D My mind is open but there's no danger of me playing Guardians at least Thank you for watching and commenting, I appreciate it I really do! Thank you!
@reallylatereviews ODST and Reach shift tones and feel a lot. They still feel and play like Halo, but their tone shifts a lot. They were Bungie's last two Halo games and put a lot of what they learned from the original trilogy into them, but also shook up the formula quite drastically.
@@sarkath77 I totally missed this a month ago I'm so sorry. TH-cam replies are truly awful to keep track of. It's nice to hear that they stayed near the circle of Halo, so to speak, and not stray outside of it too far. That either works or backfires completely.
They really dropped the ball with CE's remaster but the Halo 2 Anniversary is, visually, absolute peak; the only issue is they replaced all the Breaking Benjamin songs. If you swap to old graphics in those scenes you'll get the original music though, which I do recommend.
I will try and remember my memory is awful though rofl! But yeah mostly everyone says go with the visual remaster for Halo 2 which is nice to hear they got it right. I wanna add thank you for watching and commenting, I will keep this is mind! Thank you!
you mentioned deus ex! i would LOVE to see a review of that. human revolution was one of my favorites when i was in high school and i think it's still somehow a game people sleep on. anyway, loving your take on the og halo!
Aw dude the original Deus Ex is a game I'd love to review but it intimidates me. I played it endlessly but I worry about doing it justice haha. Human Revolution is fantastic, I think it came out too late after the original so it never shone as much as it should have done. Let me also say thank you for watching and leaving kind words as well, I appreciate that! Thank you!
As a big fan, I absolutely adore the Star Trek and Stargate references. For Halo 2, I'd recommend classic graphics the first time through. The remastered graphics are great, but for the first playthrough? Since you played Halo CE in classic, stick with it. It will be a more consistent experience and a much more fair comparison. They were both original XBOX games. They also remastered all the sound and music in Halo 2, and replaced the in-game cutscenes with CGI rendered movie sequences including having to align the new faces with the original voice actor's lines and delivery. Very impressive, but again, first time, watch the original, then play remastered. Plus, there's lots of Twitch streamers playing on the Anniversary graphics since that's the default. Another note about these two games' remasters. What is so brilliant is that they kept the underlying game engine entirely intact, and the remaster is purely the visuals. And they were able to swap those graphics at the push of a button! Doesn't affect the collision, the physics, the enemy AI, etc. Everything behaves identical regardless of graphics. All that runs on the original XBOX-era game engine (well, apparently based on the PC port of it). That means they added a lot of additional angles and geometry in the Anniversary graphics that won't match the collision mesh because it's tied to the OG graphic design. There is allegedly one dead end in the Library that is just plainly covered up with a wall in the Remaster but you can walk through it! But that's the only egregious example I know of. There are more technical changes that does affect gameplay if you get into the weeds of it. Weapons fire was connected to the framerate, and so in Legendary in Halo 2, notably, they are capable of firing their plasma rifles even faster! But that's a byproduct of porting the game from a console to a PC, not the Anniversary graphics. To their credit, fans have brought these points up since the Master Chief Collection came out and 343 has made numerous additions, while also fixing bugs based on fan feedback. They are done with it now, so whatever is left is how it will stay but they did put in some extra work to fix up the ports, but people have lists of things that changed between versions. Some history. 343 released the Anniversary Edition of Halo CE in 2011, for it's 10th anniversary. I bought it for my XBOX 360 even though I had the original. That button to toggle graphics actually took a couple seconds to load, but since my XBOX One and later, it's instantaneous. If you look at Halo 4 and Halo Reach, then the remastered graphics, you'll see they clearly tried to backport design direction for the different aesthetics (along with their own creative liberties). Halo CE Anniversary was designed to run on the 360. The Halo 2 Anniversary was put together in 2014 for the initial release of the Master Chief Collection. Hard to believe it's already 10 years old. It also initially included only Halo 1-4. They've expanded and enhanced it over that time but they've finished development on it. I believe the Anniversary version fixed some of the issues with the original playing on other hardware than the original XBOX it was designed on. Slowdowns and stuff like that. Halo CE never had an online multiplayer. It was released a year before the launch of XBOX Live (Halo 2 would dominate it once it released in 2004). With MCC, we get a lot of QoL improvements like higher resolutions, playing with keyboard and mouse or controller, remapping buttons, loads of extra customization, full multiplayer and co-op support, which for Halo CE, was couch co-op only and up to 16 player multiplayer (with 4 XBOXs), but only over LAN. As it was, this was the true infancy of online gaming. Halo CE was too early to that party.
Sorry for the late reply! A couple of people have also said about the original visuals for Halo 2. I won't lie, I'm leaning more to the remaster because by and large that's what the vast majority of people have said. There's also the time constraints I have (this is my hobby) to play through it twice just for the visuals. All that being said, you've convinced me to go deeper into the comparison of OG vs remaster for Halo 2, as it's clear it's not as clear cut as it was for CE. And that is just really interesting about the aesthetic backporting, something I'll definitely bring up (if I remember because my memory is awful) when I look at Halo 4 haha. The fact they fixed a dead end in the Library is really neat as well I also wasn't aware of the lack of online multiplayer for CE. Despite gaming in that era I was always on PC, so Star Trek Elite force had a small but constant online gaming presence. That's just fascinating how it exploded even with LAN limitations. Gosh LAN. Those were the days. Lastly, thank you so much for taking the time out of your day to comment and to watch my video. Especially as a fellow sci-fi fan haha! Thank you so much!
@@reallylatereviews Elite Force? Awesome! Played both of those through a few times, and downloaded the modding tools for EF1. Messed around making levels a lot actually, but never completed any concepts. Still have them saved somewhere. I never played it online (dialup at the time) but I bought my first dedicated video card so I could run EF1 on my hand-me-down family PC! I am not a huge online gamer myself, prefer single player stories and experiences. The remaster for H2 is well done. They took the criticisms of CE to heart. Besides the textures, the lighting is the largest difference. I would only recommend that you flip to classic graphics multiple times in a level to check out the comparison. About the invisible wall in the library, no, the new graphics created the invisible wall not the other way around. In the classic graphics, there's a dead end, and for whatever reason, they covered it up but since the collision doesn't change, you can go through it. I saw it in a speed run video. Those are something else, if you ever have an hour to burn. It's incredible how speed runners are able to find and abuse games to complete them in ungodly times.
@@user-yf3cr5ev5p I think I can do that with the comparisons for sure! I tried to do it somewhat with CE but ended up going back to record more as I just couldn't find it in my hours of video. But oh I misunderstood about the wall! I like that they preserved the collision for the original version at least, that's neat Oh damn making levels for games I respect that if they are work in progress. And I am largely a singleplayer gamer as well, I do some online games but they appeal to me less and less as time goes on.
Made an ungodly noise at 'bone breaking snu snu ' . Was in my late teens when I played this on first pc release. Kinda bounced off for no real reason, got convinced to do one of the sequels cooperatively in challenge mode (all skulls, something...) But, back to this. 1 was fun, good space shit.
Ayyyy Lymarra! ungodly noise ROFL. yeah i liked that character 👀 I didn't even know these games had co-op until recently, but I imagine that's amazing to play through so I'm glad it brought ya back in! Not sure I'd survive all skulls though haha (I'm gonna just add thank you and ya know why. A highlight of making these is seeing familiar faces come back. It means the world to me and it's a large part of why I keep making them. Thank you!)
Man, your content makes you look like an absolute Chad when it comes to "fun to be around". Think you could ever make a Discord server or something to interact with you every now and then? Don't wanna bother you too much either, since you are a busy person lol. This is the second video I am watching from you (first being of one of my favourite games yet so dusty due to lack of playing lol [yeah thats an issue with me :')], Grim Dawn), and you already are becoming one of my favs here in the platform. Love your humour, and really appreciate, from seeing the comments section, how much you spend time with the community. You are awesome, and here's to 10k by the end of the year (at least I hope so because you deserve the support)!
Ayy first of all. Holy moly thank you so much for your kind words, I can't tell you how nice they are to read. And thank you for watching and hell, for watching another video of mine as well. That makes me smile so much, thank you. And ayyy you're never too dusty for Grim Dawn! It's there when you feel like it! :D Before I even talk about discord, nobody is ever a bother you are not a bother. I try to respond within a few days purely because I tried to keep up with comments daily on my Dragons Dogma video, and I was spending 2 hours a day in December answering comments rofl. Now I do it every few days or so. Please never hesitate to pop a comment somewhere! About Discord/multiplayer, I've been asked before and I'm currently working out how to approach that. I've worked to keep my TH-cam and 'screename' seperate, you might notice some blurred names and stuff. I know this sounds like a video plug but I'm gonna do a channel update video, it will MOSTLY be me waffling but I'm gonna talk about stuff like that. That isn't an answer but I think if you and the others who asked me can hear my voice, I will feel it's a more genuine response and not a brush off. But basically I'm thinking about it Sorry for long reply haha! Thank you again!
@@reallylatereviews worry not about long replies, I am well known for writing walls of text between my friends xD. I can't wait for the video! Will be amazing to hopefully be able to hang out with such an amzing person such as you! Please do take care, and I'll keep watching your backlog of videos. On PF:WOTR right now!
Just a little over halfway through, but this is a great review so far! Always nice to see some attention to (and appreciation of) detail, rather than a rushed-through review with only a basic summary of the game/gameplay. FYI, Halo 2 onwards fixed the checkpoint system so that if you die quickly however many times in a row, it'll send you back to the second to last checkpoint. Softlocks no more! Edit: that janky bit with the teleporting marine at 1:02:28 wasn't visible in the original release of the game, as it had a 4:3 aspect ratio (or stretched 4:3 if played on widescreen mode). Still, nice observation on your end, it ultimately serves as proof that expanding a 4:3 frame to widescreen isn't always beneficial!
"Halo 2 onwards fixed the checkpoint system" I'm downloading it NOW rofl. I swear I got Hitman in the works but you've moved Halo 2 forward thank you. And the 4:3 bit makes perfect sense! That's fascinating, gosh I never even thought of that. I agree as well, for years I had an older TV that would not let you set the aspect ratio, so I thought everyone on Star Trek had very wide shoulders. Let me just say thank you for taking the time to watch my video and leave kind words as well! The one thing I do try and do is not rush my reviews. The thought someone might make a purchase based on my videos haunts me, so I want to be sure about my opinion :D Thank you again!
@@reallylatereviewsgreat to hear you've moved Halo 2 up in the lineup, I (and many others I'm sure) look forward to hearing your fresh perspective on it! Just so you're aware, Halo 2's heroic difficulty is tougher than Combat Evolved's in some respects. Certain enemies are even capable of one shotting you with their melee! Fortunately, you do gain the advantage of no health packs, along with a quicker shield recharge time. Plus, you can trade weapons with your allies, meaning you can arm them up with powerful weapons to increase their effectiveness!
As someone who has watched way too many of these types of videos talking about Halo CE because I’m a huge Halo fan, this was easily one of the better ones. I really enjoyed your perspective and analysis. Great job. Instant sub for me. I really hope you do all the Bungie Halo games, but at the very least do Halos 2 and 3.
Thank you holy smokes. I worry when I make these videos because I am often a newcomer and I want to do right by fans, do the game justice. I just hope I do and it's always lovely to read comments like yours cause I feel that I did okay haha! I plan to do Halo 2-4, but many people have asked to play the others as well so maybe. Time permitting haha Let me say thank you for watching and leaving kind words, and for subscribing as well. I appreciate it, so thank you!
@@reallylatereviews oh and I should add that in MCC the anniversary graphics of H2 are much better than for CE. I prefer to play on OG graphics though. However, the audio for the classic graphics is kinda scuffed. So if you do play on classic graphics, I recommend turning down the other audio options but keep music all the way up and then just turn up the volume on your computer. For some reason they haven’t fixed the music volume issue to match the original Xbox release. Also, while I again recommend playing on OG graphics, it is definitely worth rewatching the H2A cutscenes afterwards. They were done by BLUR studios and are movie level quality. It’s fucking amazing what they did there. And lastly, do NOT play 2 on legendary for your first time. You’ll have zero fun. Heroic is challenging enough. But for the sake of your video, I do recommend trying legendary for a bit after you beat it on another difficulty. Because the game is notorious for its difficulty.
@@levi22es I hear good things about H2's remaster so I will be going in with that haha don't worry. And this is the first I'm hearing (I think) of the cutscenes being done by BLUR, so I will be sure to check them out too. However ya know I'm gonna go in first on legendary difficulty at least for half an hour haha, just to see what it's like :D But I do absolutely believe you that it's difficult and that I'll stop.
@@reallylatereviews awesome. If you thought legendary in CE was punishing and then had to switch down to heroic, you’ll be in for treat with 2. There are worse things than Rocket Launcher Flood…
Thank you! Holy moly. For watching my long video, for your kind words and for subscribing too! I do appreciate it and especially that you wanna see more. I've got two videos I must finish (Hitman Blood Money and Dragons Dogma Halloween special) because I have no room left on my hard drives lol, but after that I'll see about Halo 2. Thank you!
@@reallylatereviews I see your channel is small but took a quick look at what you have. Will definitely see your other vids and look forward to those two.
I might have a look at it haha but I can't promise! I used to love old custom games in Star Trek Elite Force so maybe I should check out Halo's Thanks as well for watching, and for commenting too. I appreciate it, so thank you!
Yeah this seems to be the consensus and the way I'm leaning honestly. I think if it feels like Halo that's good enough for me haha! Thank you as well for watching and leaving a comment, I appreciate it! Thank you!
36:09 - wow, you answered my question before I even went to google it. I knew i'd played some halo before, but only ever remember playing that beach level. For the longest time I never quite understood how the game appeared to start as a corridor shooter, but my experience was was of the beach level being the opening. Guess it was a demo lol, my brain isn't completely fucked after all, i'd more or less just assumed my memory got shagged and forgot the first few hours entirely lol.
Ayy Houldey! I worry about my brain too but fear not, it was all a demo. I was also shocked when I got landed in a corridor, it's weird how memory works and creates expectations I think - especially from half remembered stuff haha! I wanna say thanks as well for returning, and watching and commenting too! I do appreciate it and I really am grateful to see familiar faces. Thank you!
Thank you! Yeah I'm not gonna argue man. It's great and I really enjoyed it more than I ever expected. Love it Thank you again for both watching and commenting with kind words. Thank you!
I'm planning to do at least up to Halo 4. Basically I started this for one joke that may not be all that funny, but I had to start with Halo 1 to do it rofl. Anyway I will do Halo 2 I'll also add thank you! For watching and commenting, and honestly for recommending the sequel. It means a lot to me that someone might wanna see a video on that! So thank you!
The shotgun is absolutely amazing. I feel the whole flood experience is a run for your life manic shotgunning fiasco and it’s the most fun I’ve had in a shooter.
Yeah I did love that at least in the Guilty Spark level haha. Especially with that shotgun. It's such a good shotgun in Halo I love it. (Also to your other comment about the button prompts/tutorials, that is my mistake and something I missed completely!) I wanna quickly add thank you for watching and commenting! I appreciate that, so thank you!
A shame you didn't even try multiplayer. Most of the weapons really take to their identities and are really fun to use. The plasma rifle especially gets use when you realize that it slows enemy movement to a crawl. It's some of the most fun I've ever had in an arena shooter and my only complaint is that sometimes the spawning system kinda sucks.
I won't lie part of me regretted it. Being completely frank about it it was time constraints due to my work and the fact it probably would have added another 20 minutes to the video if I let it haha. I do regret it. I might go back and try it in an apology video, as I did for Dragons Dogma haha Let me say thank you for watching and commenting, I do appreciate it! Thank you!
It's not one of those 2 weapons shooters xD - it is the one from which all other mainstream shooters copied it from xD You're missing out on one of the most fun party games by leaving out the multiplayer, there is a reason why Custom Edition still has an active player base 20+ years later
Very pleasant review. Loved the part when the banshee kill you while the elite disrespect you and all the funny tidbits. Glad that you tought about the random checkpoint placement, the inaudible voices and some small problems while also counterbalancing with what you liked about the level design, soundtrack, VA and enemy placement and design. I might be the only one liking the jackals with their shield because it force you to aim elsewhere than the head for once, they tend to annoy me when its the only ennemy in an encounter but otherwise the game would be lacking without them. At least there's no jackal-flood... The only big gripe i had with the game is the repeated level design and going back to previous levels just for padding. Its excusable but i definitly prefer the first half of the game Oh and i think everyone hate the library and rocket floods 😡 Otherwise great game from the childhood and a lot of fun in coop obviously
I think that's an honestly good take on the Jackals. I figure I ran into such frustration with them because I died more to them than the Elites haha! I get the repeated levels gripe as well. I see this as a price of the time and budget constraints. I will say that it's one of the best instances of reusing multiple old areas I've seen. Usually games can get away with 1 or 2 backtracking levels. I think Halo does it for 3? Any more and it woulda been pushing it :P Although saying that, yeah the library aw I'd rather have done another repeated level rofl. I didn't even know you could play these games in coop until today! Sorry for going on but please also let me say thank you so much for watching and for your kind words. I worried that some of the things I mentioned were just me complaining, so it's nice to hear talking about them was the right thing to do! Thank you again!
I laughed at the jokes, and wanted to subscribe...just to realise that I am already subscribed to this channel. Maybe I am more drunk than I thought. Prost!
Ayyyy Saaitan! Yeah I am sure you've commented before as well, but my memory is shocking so don't worry. Thank you for coming back and watching! And leaving kind words too! Thank you and ayyy Prost!
Oh I getcha, I see what you mean it's relative control. I won't lie, I hate that but at least it's in there. Relative controls always make me think of climbing wyrms in Dragons Dogma haha. Thank you for clearing this up, for watching and for commenting too! I appreciate it, thank you!
I just want to let people know that you can play Halo 1 remastered in the Halo 3 engine and it looks fantastic. This was modded by a single person who ported the entire game. It is very impressive.
That's actually insane. Thank you so much for taking the time to comment because I never knew about this and I may check it out in the future. Thank you as well for watching! I appreciate it, thank you!
I strongly encourage you to play the original xbox version, as the plasma weapon sound effects are INSANE compared to the MCC ones. MCC is mushy, original is like a mile tyson punch to the gut. Absolutely intense.
Rofl I love that description. I can't believe they changed the sound effects, that just boggles my mind. Why would they do that I wanna say thank you for watching and commenting! I do appreciate it, so thank you!
I am excited for Halo 2 honestly. I take a little break for real life and Hitman Blood Money, but I didn't expect to get so into Halo. I am thinking I'll go with the remaster for that one as everone seems to say it's good. I'll be sure to compare them for a video though (and maybe I'll get some more of the references I've missed lol :D) Thank you as well, for watching and for commenting! I appreciate it, thank you! Also thanks for commenting about seeing more, makes me want to make more videos!
Despite many restoration fixes being officially implemented on the MCC, the games still aren't the same as the original xbox releases. Controls schemes are very different to the original, so people should just manually bind everything to their comfort, or use presets for controller. Load screens were minimal in the original releases, especially Halo 2 onward since it was hidden behind cutscenes. The MCC audio mix for Halo CE and 2 is pretty borked, dialogue especially used to be much clearer in the original releases. The library dialogue is a major example (Halo 2 has an audio restoration mod on nexus mods, also fixes sound effects disappearing until they trigger again when switching graphics) As appealing as updated graphics may seem to most people, they absolutely fuck up level design and intuitive gameplay. One example is hunters weak points being easily missable in the anniversary graphics. Also Halo CE had a post credits scene revealing Guilty Spark survived, but none of the games have their credits in the MCC :( Anyway nice video, great to see another perspective on now ancient games
This bit about the sound balancing is massive, holy smokes. I'm gonna keep a thought in my head for Halo 2 and this audio restoration mod you mentioned, thank you. It also pains me to hear about the other bits that got cut or messed up, some I saw for myself. That sucks I do wanna end on a positive rofl and say thank you for watching and leaving kind words, I appreciate that! So thank you!
@@reallylatereviews I should mention the audio restoration mod restores the classic audio for both graphics. It’s not perfect but it’s the closest to the original experience you can get. The music in classic graphics is almost silent on the mcc for some reason There’s an option that only changes the music if you’d like to hear the anniversary sound effects, but if you plan on playing classic halo 2 the mod is pretty much necessary. There’s also a way to remove load screens if people want to avoid spoilers (since mcc gets carried away spoiling reveals just before it happens) but it’s literally just replacing the load screens file with a renamed empty .txt file
i think this video ran a little long and i repeated myself a couple of times. i did it because i wanted to 'memory jog' from earlier talking points but it still worries me. hope ya enjoy it though rofl
Edit: HunterStiles651 has brought up a golden elite who doesn't one shot me at 1:01:51.
I'm obviously not knowledgeable about this subject, I am just happy it works, but I am sorry if I've made any statements in the video that are factually wrong
Edit: still can't believe nobody has called me out about 14:36 i got away with it completely and down here nobody will read this

(I think personally classic graphics for Halo 2 still shine bright though many seem to prefer the Anniversary for H2, but to me Anniversary cutscenes felt directed by Michael Bay, some subtle character animations and camera work is lost in anniversary cutscenes, also don't like the anniversary OST, SFX and some art like Elite designs in Anniversary compared to Classic, it is certainly a better remaster than Halo 1 though overall)
Library s**ks, but one minor comment on what you were saying, you said dumping the exposition in it was a bad choice, but to me in hindsight it seems almost deliberate when you consider the cutscene in Two Betrayals where Guilty Spark acts like you should know what is going to happen, but he didn't at all consider that you were too busy surviving and shooting to pay attention to his badly timed ramblings in the background where if you had actual peace and quiet to focus on what 343 was saying you'd start questioning it since he did sort of say what Cortana spelled out about what Halo the ring does (though that too, could potentially be considered deliberate, that 343 leaned in on the time pressure, chaos and crisis to obfuscate what really would happen if you help him).
I put Custom Edition on a flash drive and distributed it to all my friends, during I.T we'd all boot up local lan games and have a hell of a time 😂
In 2008 at my college, my buddies and I would download it on our class computers since the internet speeds were super fast. The fun was short lived since the built-in lag started ruining their interest, and they switched over to CS 1.6 just after a few days.
I used to use command prompt to reenable the default local administrator account and I'd just do literally whatever I wanted because it was outside the network user account controls. 🤣
i remember in high school halo ce was installed on all of the computers in my computer clsss somehow we’d play everyday as a class
How did he get a command position
Let me say thank you for watching and commenting, especially with this background fact, I love this. Thank you!
@@reallylatereviewsThanks. I forgot to say it in my original comment, but I really liked your video, especially your Sci-Fi Stereotypes chapter. Halo is its own game, but respectfully makes homages to Sci-Fi that came before it and I think you explained that point well.
The marine pep talk at the very start changes depending on the difficulty chosen. There is a unique one for every difficulty.
Yep, and Halo 2 and 3 feature some difficulty-based cutscene dialogue as well!
You both making me wanna play through these games on every difficulty and it's not gonna work! I know what you're up to!

@@Andrew-ps6xe yup, back in the early 0s my friend and I worked hard in co-op to finally get to the end and unlock it.
highest marks playing with original graphics, stays true to the tone.
Thank you and I couldn't agree more. I really am not a guy who stresses over that. I played HD Bloodrayne, cleaner textures for Dragon's Dogma, etc... But wow the tone is just smashed apart in this remaster. Shame
Thank you again! For watching and commenting too, I appreciate that a lot so thank you!
I found it funny calling CE "one of those games" since it's largely considered to be the game that standardized only having 2 guns at once xD
This is why Overwatch started so strong and is now a shadow of it's former self (hero countering has been replaced by 'strongest avenger' gameplay.) I'm just glad that they can't go back and change Halo lol (i hope)
Thank you for watching and commenting as well!
If you've see any footage of Star Wars Outlaws, you'll know I agree with you and AI (at least in big releases) is a fuckin joke now
Sorry for big reply but wanted to answer your comments! Let me say thank you as well for watching and commenting, I really appreciate it! So thank you!
Not only does MCC have every Halo game worth playing, its also got Halo 4
This made me laugh so much. You can read your whole comment in a phone notification and it really caught me off guard earlier rofl. Thank you for watching and for commenting, especially with this. I appreciate it, thank you.
The original PC version is more fun then Mcc
Two things of note:
A) There is a flashlight tutorial, but as you saw the game skips tutorials on heroic+ because it assumes you know what you're doing.
Extremely underrated channel. Your production value matches, if not, exceeds that of larger channels in the same realm
Thank you!
You can stun jackals at range by shooting the little cracks on the edge of the shield. With projectiles. The pistol is the perfect counter for them
This is really helpful actually and I've heard this from someone else.
I look forward to the following 8? videos on the rest of the Halo series
aw no what have i done rofl.
Nah I'm hoping to do up to 4. I started this whole thing to make one joke, and it pays off with Halo 4. I'm crazy. But I can say thank you in earnest for watching and leaving a comment, and it really means a lot to me that someone wants to see me make more. So thank you!
@@reallylatereviews holy shit that wasn't a bot response
In the original Gearbox port you had to use TAB to cycle between your 2 weapons. And of course it is "one of those games", they invented the 2 weapons system.
Damn I mean I can see why they changed off the tab key but it still feels like a strange button to choose. Also as for the 2 weapons yeah I wrote that, and later on I realised what I'd said was silly. But I really wanted to take a shot at Bioshock Infinite haha, it doesn't feel good in that game at all.
Let me say thank you as well for watching and commenting! I appreciate it, so thank you!
You do make me a bit sad for missing these games when they released...
But for now I am satisfied with your analysis and footage.
Ayyy ya know what, there is no missing things. If you didn't get to do it earlier, you can do it when and if you feel like it. And if you decide not to, or you can't, then it probably wasn't worth doing anyway :P
All that being said, I am really glad I can make these videos and really glad you want to watch them!
But I wanted to take that shot at Bioshock Infinite rofl
Thanks for watching! And for commenting! I appreciate it, thank you!
@@reallylatereviews “We will watch your career with great interest.”
At some point in the mcc pc update era they did fix the plasma rifle stun for multiplayer.
Also plasma rifle does %50 more damage with head shots, but only in multiplayer.
As the head of a tiny indie studio trying to make a halo style game, videos like this do help. Gives me insight into how other people see halo.

Edit: BRUH you added those emojis while i replied ROFL amazing
I'm rambling I'm sorry
Let me please ramble one second more and say thank you so much for watching, commenting and for subscribing.
Would suck to have both players get there and only one medkit when they both have only one bar of hp left... which leads to "hey kill me so i can get my health back via respawn, just dont take my ammo and guns"
The other thing with the lack of them in some levels, while in single player, backtrack!
I used them all haha
But both your two cents are on the money, and I wish I'd have at least mentioned the backtracking. I also wanna say thank you for watching and commenting, I appreciate that I really do. Thank you!
What's funny is that CE didn't tell you the controlls because going above normal difficulty disables all tutorials
The manual at least also told the player the controls too, I miss manuals lel

I tell you something that absolutely is why I make these videos. I played Bayonetta at a low point, definitely not the worst time in my life, but the time I'd become most numb. I decided to make a dumb review of it and now, every few months I pop out another video, and it makes me happy. So the thought that I can make someone smile on a bad day makes all this worthwhile. And I tell you something else, whatever it is, even if it's something that stays with you forever, you'll be alright.

At least a few people on the dev team were big gun nerds for sure XD
PS.
Thank you!
@@reallylatereviews Thanks for taking the time to read my short novel XD

I do try my best to think about how these games felt back then and truth be told, I end up liking them over modern games anyway. So there isn't much imagination required haha! Thank you again, I appreciate your time!
Part of the issue with your level 3 is that you stopped using the sniper. There is ammo for it inside the ship. Just spam those rounds.
See I never would have made that leap without reading this haha. The idea of running around inside a ship with a sniper rifle just felt wrong to me and I never anticipated I'd find more ammo for it
Thank you though for this info and thank you for watching as well! I do appreciate it, so thank you!

Never a good combination

"Can't help but praise the AI for the time"
Has AI even gotten better? Like, at all? It's mostly just been graphics. In fact, I think AI has gotten dumber over time. Devs just don't really work on AI anymore as a selling point.
Probably already mentioned but the controls you showed were accurate to Combat Evolved pc for a great deal of time until 343 changed them in the pc version of the Chief Collection.

I can only ask that you trust me
I like the gamma suggestion, I should have thought to fiddle with it but I really did like the moody shadows. I'm also more excited for Halo 2 than I ever imagined after reading comments rofl. I was worried Johnson wouldn't be returning but this is what I wanted to hear
Lastly please let me say thank you, not just for commenting but for watching my video too.

Even Lost didn't do that
But unfinished stories aside I will say thank you, for watching and commenting on my video!

@@SR-388 Thank you man. I'm gonna play at least 2-4, but I figure I will break up the Halo games with a different game inbetween each time.
Thank you!
Really late reviews is a great idea man. Gimme dat nostalgia shot
And trust 343 to take out manual saves
I will add another thank you here for leaving kind words, thank you!
Immediate 👍 as you decided to play in the classic graphics mode ❤🙏
Fun tidbit, on the og Xbox the game did tell you which buttin was your flashlight, and it was the clear button on the old Duke controller.
Thank you!
1:06:32 I love that concept! Elites with energy swords AND an arm shield is totally badass!
Yeah that looks pretty sick actually rofl. I would have much preferred that over the Jackals. I guess it would have made for an overpowered elite but one every now and then would be fun to fight honestly
Let me also say thank you for watching and commenting!
Maybe one day
Sorry for long reply, I just wanted to say thanks! For watching and commenting, I appreciate it! Thank you!
Finally new content! Welcome back my dear friend!

I wanna add thank you for watching and commenting as well, I really do appreciate it, so thank you!
great review! i look forward to see your review on halo 2 if you plan on making one!
Subscribing to see you review halo 2 and 3!
Damn thank you! Not just for watching and commenting but subscribing too. That's lovely and I will (eventually) cover 2 and 3 for sure. Thank you!
@reallylatereviews you have a very organic and human way of reviewing. At least from this video, it feels like an invested friend telling me all about a hidden gem they found. Keep it up, you're video reviews feel very organic and fun to watch
I never get tired of hearing people marvel over 343 guilty spark. One of the best levels in video games.
It is such a good level, it caught me completely off guard. It's weird how I'll remember more about Halo's level design than I thought I would haha. Thank you! For watching and commenting, I do appreciate it! So thank you!
One of my favorite games and one of the best of all time. Bravo.
Halo Reach = Covenant pistol + Semi Auto Rifle = Win
Halo = Human pistol + Covenant pistol = Win
Halo 2 = Human battle rifle + Covenant pistol = Win
Halo 3 = Same as Halo 2 method = Win
Halo ODST = Same as Halo 3 method = Win
Halo 4 = Same as Halo 2 + Halo 3 methods = Win
If a player follows using these weapon techniques, then they will for sure be able to play the Halo series on harder difficulties all the time.
I'm making myself wanna play it again just talking about it 😂
But I do agree with your critique on health pack placement and health management, any higher than Normal difficulty, and I can see how frustrating that is. Wonderful review man, thank you for sending me back down memory lane!
I tell ya T&R was fantastic design wise, I've picked the best and the worst footage I had to emphasise this I guess. I do agree it's such a well designed level and I can understand why even talking about it makes you want to go back haha! As for healthpacks, my Rambo playstyle didn't make my life any easier in there as well so there is that
I want to add thank you for watching and taking the time to leave kind words.
But a lot of people, a friend included, have said do Reach/ODST so I may look at it, if I do it'll be after I take a break from Halo reviews :D My mind is open but there's no danger of me playing Guardians at least
Thank you for watching and commenting, I appreciate it I really do! Thank you!
@reallylatereviews ODST and Reach shift tones and feel a lot. They still feel and play like Halo, but their tone shifts a lot. They were Bungie's last two Halo games and put a lot of what they learned from the original trilogy into them, but also shook up the formula quite drastically.
RvB?
@@sarkath77 I totally missed this a month ago I'm so sorry. TH-cam replies are truly awful to keep track of. It's nice to hear that they stayed near the circle of Halo, so to speak, and not stray outside of it too far. That either works or backfires completely.
Great review 👍
Thank you! For watching my video and leaving a nice comment! Helps me wanna make more haha, so thank you!
The fact they fixed a dead end in the Library is really neat as well
I also wasn't aware of the lack of online multiplayer for CE.
I like that they preserved the collision for the original version at least, that's neat
Oh damn making levels for games I respect that if they are work in progress.

@@lbertoacv4498 Maaaaan thank you for watching more! That's so wonderful to hear. Thank you, I hope ya have a great day!
Time permitting haha
Let me say thank you for watching and leaving kind words, and for subscribing as well. I appreciate it, so thank you!
@@reallylatereviews hell yeah. Halo 2 and 3 are very special games that have interesting development histories, especially Halo 2.

Thanks as well for watching, and for commenting too. I appreciate it, so thank you!
Definitely a good move to play Halo CE with the og graphics, but interestingly I highly suggest playing Halo 2 with the remaster graphics.

I'm planning to do at least up to Halo 4. Basically I started this for one joke that may not be all that funny, but I had to start with Halo 1 to do it rofl. Anyway I will do Halo 2
I'll also add thank you! For watching and commenting, and honestly for recommending the sequel. It means a lot to me that someone might wanna see a video on that! So thank you!
@@reallylatereviews Thank you for the really late reviews, reallylatereviews!
(Also the trek references are priceless)
@@reallylatereviewshow about infinite (I understand with 5)
The shotgun is absolutely amazing. I feel the whole flood experience is a run for your life manic shotgunning fiasco and it’s the most fun I’ve had in a shooter.
Yeah I did love that at least in the Guilty Spark level haha. Especially with that shotgun. It's such a good shotgun in Halo I love it. (Also to your other comment about the button prompts/tutorials, that is my mistake and something I missed completely!)
I wanna quickly add thank you for watching and commenting! I appreciate that, so thank you!
new halo player epic
I'm just glad to sign up even if I'm late! And ya know what I'm grateful you took the time to watch and comment on my video. Thank you!
I might go back and try it in an apology video, as I did for Dragons Dogma haha
Let me say thank you for watching and commenting, I do appreciate it! Thank you!
It's not one of those 2 weapons shooters xD - it is the one from which all other mainstream shooters copied it from xD
You're missing out on one of the most fun party games by leaving out the multiplayer, there is a reason why Custom Edition still has an active player base 20+ years later
Its excusable but i definitly prefer the first half of the game
Oh and i think everyone hate the library and rocket floods 😡
Otherwise great game from the childhood and a lot of fun in coop obviously
I think that's an honestly good take on the Jackals. I figure I ran into such frustration with them because I died more to them than the Elites haha!
I get the repeated levels gripe as well. I see this as a price of the time and budget constraints. I will say that it's one of the best instances of reusing multiple old areas I've seen. Usually games can get away with 1 or 2 backtracking levels. I think Halo does it for 3? Any more and it woulda been pushing it :P
Although saying that, yeah the library aw I'd rather have done another repeated level rofl.

You actually *can*; if you're looking to the left, hold D to go forward. Looking to the right? Hold A. Finally, looking backward = S.
Why would they do that
I wanna say thank you for watching and commenting! I do appreciate it, so thank you!
Interested too see what you do with Halo 2, the remaster is much better in that one and I actually recommend it. Unlike the CE remaster.
I am excited for Halo 2 honestly. I take a little break for real life and Hitman Blood Money, but I didn't expect to get so into Halo. I am thinking I'll go with the remaster for that one as everone seems to say it's good. I'll be sure to compare them for a video though (and maybe I'll get some more of the references I've missed lol :D)
Thank you as well, for watching and for commenting!
The library dialogue is a major example (Halo 2 has an audio restoration mod on nexus mods, also fixes sound effects disappearing until they trigger again when switching graphics)
As appealing as updated graphics may seem to most people, they absolutely fuck up level design and intuitive gameplay. One example is hunters weak points being easily missable in the anniversary graphics.
Also Halo CE had a post credits scene revealing Guilty Spark survived, but none of the games have their credits in the MCC :(
Anyway nice video, great to see another perspective on now ancient games
This bit about the sound balancing is massive, holy smokes. I'm gonna keep a thought in my head for Halo 2 and this audio restoration mod you mentioned, thank you. It also pains me to hear about the other bits that got cut or messed up, some I saw for myself. That sucks
I do wanna end on a positive rofl and say thank you for watching and leaving kind words, I appreciate that! So thank you!
@@reallylatereviews I should mention the audio restoration mod restores the classic audio for both graphics. It’s not perfect but it’s the closest to the original experience you can get. The music in classic graphics is almost silent on the mcc for some reason
There’s an option that only changes the music if you’d like to hear the anniversary sound effects, but if you plan on playing classic halo 2 the mod is pretty much necessary.
There’s also a way to remove load screens if people want to avoid spoilers (since mcc gets carried away spoiling reveals just before it happens) but it’s literally just replacing the load screens file with a renamed empty .txt file
