Something that I don't ever hear other people mention is comfort. If one tried to wear headphones or iems for 20 hours every single day for months it would result in head dents, ear skin damage or even loss of hair.
This is why we have a garbage disposal problem: people impulse buying $5k headphones at the Bestbuy cashier then boomerang tossing them outside the window after realizing they got scammed
Good video btw , surprised you were taken aback so much comparing.. speakers are always going to sound better .. just like going to see a live band is awesome ( when the audio techs do a good job )
Even at quiet listening levels speakers are king. My speakers don't go lower than 45Hz and I use them at all times of the day. The only time I use headphones is when I want to call someone.
Any significant Headphones are for sound and video engineers predominantly. If you want to fully enjoy music? Speakers hands down. I like electrostatic large panels, subwoofers, and knockers. If I am mixing or engineering? It’s headphones and engineering speakers too.
I like how you mentioned listening to the real world. It's quiet something I've been thinking whether that would be better to just not hear music. It's quiet depressing to hear traffic noise for me. I would like to appreciate real sound around me, but most of them are just sound of rubber rolling off the road at 45 mph.
Kali lp unf is 300 bucks and doesn't need an amp. Micca rb42 with aiyima a07 max is less than that and mind blowing with eq. Speakers are cheaper than iems or headphones when it comes to sound qualify
I d argue that even without subwoofer,2.0 speaker near field (if you are really close, no room trearment is needed and not bothering your neighbors ) sounds better than headphones because of the dynamic range coming from physically bigger drivers that moves more air and interact with your skin and better soundstage coming from crossfeed that only happens with speakers
@@Sharur1 i think the question is not is a 2.1 system better than a 2.0,of course it is, but the question is : are speakers better than headphones ? once we agree that speakers sound better than headphones, near field seems like a necessity because as you said we have neighbors and we don't to treat our living room :) and near field does not imply 3" woofers, most studio monitors are around 7"
btw sharur when u review the moondrop cosmo be sure to try out the para pads aswell. apparently people say they make the soundstage wider, take this with a grain of salt though who knows you might be able to get the sound quality of the lcd-5 with the soundstage of the edition xs
Sort of niche question, but I'm doing an electronic noise project with some bandmates and was wondering what a good speaker/subwoofer setup would be to play extremely loud (100+db) for as cheap as possible while still maintaining decent sound quality. Asking bc we dont want the venues to control how loud we are so we bring our own stuff, but the guitar amps we use have shit sound quality and almost no real bass.
I did an A/B comparison between my Superlux HD-681's with the Brainwavz red perforated memory foam earpads and my Realistic Minimus 7's and Vizio SB3851 subwoofer. My results were inconclusive though.
By the way, KUDOS to you for discovering this. I bet you you won't care as much to nitpick for the best in headphones anymore after this realization. Now you can just get the headphones that have a good comfort to enjoyable sound ratio and use that the most when you need to use headphones for any reason. I myself have a few IEMs and cans but my purpose isn't for a holy grail anymore, it is for getting a variety of sound tunings I enjoy to keep things fresh instead of always buying new stuff all the time. I can be a hypocrite sometimes because I do fall into the GAS trap but I try lol
@@Sharur1 its always cool to have a benchmark which makes it worth it but what I am saying here is that this realization can cool down that urge to hunt for holy grail headphones everyday. You know, that obsession of overthinking about it. I know I had it until I just finally settled down to enjoy the content again whether I listen with my horn speakers, my studio monitors, headphones or iems
A $500 pair of JBL 308 MKII's and matching subs in a large room with adequate bass trapping, diffusion and absorption will utterly eviscerate any headphone at any price point.
@@Sharur1 depends on the size of the speaker but yeah. A bit of an extreme example but if you are using an infinity irsv then its safe to say you dont need a sub rlly, lmao
for me, I do ~80 Hz 48 dB/octave linkwitz riley crossover. Note that the "in-theory" crossover expectations doesn't always match reality, but it should be pretty close unless you have phase alignment issues.
I love headphones but I have a 1000 dollar limit of spending for them with mostly sub 400 stuff in my collection. It is precisely because above that price there are speakers that I will enjoy more than any headphones regardless of technical ability. My studio monitors are the Hedd type 07 mk2. They started off boring but after burn in, better placement in the room, a change of interface, they are better than any of my headphones overall. They are higher priced but remember these are self powered so the value goes up :D
True. A mid speaker sounds way better than a high end headphones.
Curious to hear your thoughts on the Supermix4 after they arrive!

Comfort is the reason I switched to speakers almost exclusively. Summers can be brutal with headphones. + sweaty earpads 🤢🤮

thats true.
I will get a speaker when I have my room soundproof in future

Good room treatment, good speakers, good sub(s) = visceral audio experience
Headphones/iems = pleasant audio experience
treatment isn't important for a visceral experience
you also gotta shave your head for headphones but not speakers -1 headphones

Micca rb42 with a sub and spinorama eq filters through a linear phase eq (rephase) are objectively incredible for the price
Do you put your subwoofer on the floor or on a some kind of pad? Should I put mine on pad or leave it on a carpet?
just leave it on the floor
