I remember the hospital for many reasons. I used to suffer very badly from epilepsy, and used to attend the three W's - Winwick, Warrington and Walton hospital, Liverpool for EEGS and various checkups . They were all connected with the treatment of neurological disorders etc. within the North West. I also knew many people who worked there in all capacities. The closing of it has since put a strain on resources for those who were treated there, as well as many others, who had been put there for much lesser problems, and became forgotten about by their own families . The likes of Winwick became home for many who were unable to cope with the everyday world. Now that they have been " released " , many of them are finding it very difficult to cope.
Let's hope that Social Services can solve this in the long term.

A place of human misery from its start as a workhouse up until its demise - fearful, awful place. Makes me shudder to think of it. Let's hope it has ben replaced by something more human friendly.

Not a place to remember fondly for plenty of folk I'm sure. I'm sure because I worked there in the 80's. It haunts me to this day. One day the truth will surface about that wicked pile.

Dansproject Me again. I knew a woman who had been in there for decades just for being "friendly" with the American soldiers based at Burtonwood WW2. I used to work in a bookies on Liverpool road in Sankey and she came in everyday. When she'd finally been released she met her husband who was a very sweet, quiet man who was devoted to her and looked after her. I dont know if either of them are still alive as this was 17 years ago, she was never quite "right" if that makes sense. She was prone to being really inapropriate and her social skills were slightly off. I wont put there names on here but if you want to add me on google plus I would tell you on private message. She was very vocal and keen to talk about what had happened to her, it was very sad.

Thing is there are places like this still going all over europe and for children too. Ive just watched a documentary " bulagarias lost children" unbelievable how some of these kids where treated . Some on deaths door. I watched the "revisited " documentary of the same name and the difference in some of these kids who where given the proper care. that particular place was closed down due to the publicity but there are if not 1000s more places all over the world that are hidden and equally as horriffic I imagine!. Apparently I cannot see any records of this place till 100 years after it closed . I imagine now there are horrific stories to come out of there! Horrible ignorance and lack of social care happening even today. Im glad its closed and hope all are living a better life. ella brookes its nice that lady found happiness. Shows that most can live normal integrated lives given the right love and care! My uncle died there sadly. I wish I knew more of his life while he was there though. Does anyone reading this remember the bus that was run by the 2 councellers in litherland? this was the bus I used to get with my nan to winwick. It was very full every fortnight and I remember a lot of people from that bus. The last person to board every fortnight was a lovely polish man from maghull who visited his wife. I would love to hear any stories of the place.

Either 1997 or 1998. My friend was granted permission to photograph the building just before demolition, we were in the sixth form but I cant remember if it was upper or lower sorry.
