    Had to travel from Latchford to Chapelford at 5pm Friday. Wilson Patten Street moved at a snail's pace. The bridge has just moved the pinch point down the road from Bridge Foot at a cost of £30 million, it was all about opening up land for redevelopment.

    I live around the corner from this.
    Initially, it seemed to be a very good idea until it became apparent that it's real purpose was to enable the development of a thousand + houses.
    Any benefit will be short lived when all the extra traffic appears.

      @rayenbow3281 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, exactly this.
      I drove down this road today to check it out (Towards Chester Road from the Police Station). Straight away it became apparent what was going on when you looked to the left as you drove along the road. What a horrible place to live. A flooding river on one side and a railway on the other.
      We've enough roads and one way systems in Warrington, we don't need more houses either. This place is overcrowded as it is.

      WBC not to be trusted!!! Obviously don't live in the town, just a cash cow to the lot of them!!
      The amount of new houses that have been built in the borough of the last few years, and pitiful 'tweeks' to an already failing infrastructure, we should be getting a council tax reduction!!!!

    You are spot on in regards unlocking potential developments. It's a bit of a weird one this road as the new bit over the bridge up to the railway yard is the only 'new bit' with the rest of it just upgraded. It's early days but it should relieve some pressure off Bridge Foot roundabout despite the new traffic light installations at either end. It's certainly been controversial especially with the £20m eye watering price tag. Much of that was obviously for the new bridge but i believe WBC had to pay Peel ports £3m to cross the river in the first place. The sharp bend and Zebra crossing at the northern end are a bit odd especially as this road is primary but overall it will be much needed relief for the town.

      What has peel ports got to do with the Mersey I tried to search it but found nothing

      @@amacca2085 Peel ports are the navigation authority along the upper Mersey so they basically said you’ll have to pay x amount to built a low bridge over it. Even though the river isn’t usually used for navigation above Fiddlers Ferry any more and there are already several well established bridges that impede the height of any vessel coming up river.

    Be interesting to see when the swing bridges are open and traffic grinds to a halt, traffic on Gainsborough will also increase

    • @apemoon1731
      @apemoon1731 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The council actually suggested installing four chicanes along Gainsborough Road to 'manage traffic flow', seemingly oblivious to the fact that the traffic will just use the side roads off Gainsborough Road to avoid them.

    Traffic levels on Chester Rd are greatly reduced. When the ship canal bridge is open, traffic does build up, but it is shared between both the existing route and the new road. Gainsborough Rd will have traffic calming measures put in once the full impact of the changes is measured.

    • @stueymorris
      @stueymorris 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The amount of residents on Gainsborough who can't be arsed using their driveways is traffic calming enough, they've got loads of space, big drives, wide pavements and grass verges but no, they have to park a foot away from the curb for good measure

  • @allanb2906

    I agree that the ulterior motive is to unlock lots of land for more house development. Just what Warrington needs as each new house usually generates at least 2 if not 3 or 4 cars.
    However, on the cynical side they've got to re-home all of the overseas guests staying in north west hotels like the Lord Daresbury somewhere.

    I still can't believe they have not put lights at the Chester Road end of Gainsborough Road.....its not made any difference turning right on to Chester Road from there, and this causes build up on Gainsborough. This area is predominantly bungalow dwelling for elderly residents. Its gone from being fairly quiet to an every day thoroughfare. It feels like its been done to the meanest standard......get the road link in and established and start building on the now prepped and ready land.....creating more traffic. I wouldn't be surprised if at some later stage you would only be allowed to use the link Road if you have god reason to be there....

    More new roads are being built outside of the town centre or city centre because of new development. Perhaps you could do Wellingborough and A142 Ely Southern Bypass.

    This bridge is 30 yr,s to late, even then should av gone from Sankey expressway to Daresbury expressway. All it does is concentrate traffic at PinkEye/Crossfield,s roundabout. What do you expect from a Labour Council? Shafted our town.

    ☑️ Pointless wide hatched areas to speed up traffic
    ☑️ Pointless pedestrian barriers
    ☑️ Pavement ending to allow access to locked gates
    ☑️ Wide access to side roads to discourage motorists from giving way to pedestrians
    ☑️ Shared used cycleway that's far too narrow and has geometry making it useless for cycles
    That's bingo!
    Why are we still doing this?

    • @johneyres3045
      @johneyres3045 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Yet again Warrington BC spends million on new infrastructure creating a nice wide road with no safe segregated cycle lane. Warrington will continue to be log jammed with traffic and pollution. This roads saves 1.5 minutes off journey time and will have reached capacity within 20 years, then what?
