Did my 13 weeks in 1965 then 7 years on the GMP A division. Liked the job,the camaraderie the laughs the " do's" the booze but working nights got to me.But I saw Bruche as the start of my adulthood when " I put away childish things" but I still keep in touch with my " comrades In arms ".I just hope the new recruits nowadays ,form the life lasting friendships and enjoy the job ( most of the time ! ) like we did but I fear the Job has now a position in society where there has been a total emasculation of Police powers and an evisceration of their confidence to apply the law to anybody falling foul of that law,NO MATTER WHO OR WHAT THEY ARE ! ....Capitals meant !.

Thanks for posting this video. My Dad - Derek Bishop was based there in the early 80's. I'm not sure whether he was there to be trained or to perform training. He was already a servicing office (Cheshire then transferred into GMP in the 70's). I remember we would go and visit him at weekends and enjoyed sitting the lovely gardens and landscaped areas during the summer. He then went to work at Peterloo House in Manchester as a trainer and then GMP moved into Sedgely Park where he also a role in the AV department. He helped produce training for officers being interviewed on TV. SP had it's own TV Studio which we enjoyed visiting! Sadly Dad died a few years ago of Bowel Cancer. This seems to be quite prevalent amongst police officers due in some part I guess to the unusual nature of Police shift working.

My time at Bruche was initial training in 1987 before returning to the GMP training school at Sedgley Park and then on to division to complete 2 year’s probation on the street. During my service I attended Sedgley Park training school several times for various courses including effective public speaking and a tutor course which took me back to Bruche for a day visit during my 2 week training course to become a trainer. I then returned to Leigh where I started to cover trainer’s annual leave breaks while waiting for a vacancy.

@@PeterBerryRaz Hello Peter Your path may have well crossed with Dad's. Whilst at Sedgely he ran the inter division Quiz team. My brother and I were drafted in every Friday evening in Autumn to update the scoreboards. I have many fond memories of the time and we got on well with all the officers we came in to contact with. We even met James Anderton a few times. Dad finished his career at Moss Side as an Inspector. They were VERY interesting times. I must dig out his photo collection sometime and get uploaded. Great to hear from you.

I agree they sack over 20.000 police officers and now Johnson is promising to increase the police by 20.000, how can he increase the police as he will only be putting back near enough the same amount of 20.000 police officers sacked in the first place by the govt in the first place, so wheres the increase, and they cant say the 20.000 is the increase as they are only putting back what they wrongly took away to begin with what numpties they really are, no wonder theres a crime wave throughout the UK as there isn't enough police officers to cope with it,
