  • This video is of my first actual attempt to start my freshly built 1972 Z-28 Camaro Pro Street w/ 496 stroker motor topped with 8-71 Weiand Supercharger.
    Anyone could build this type of American muscle if you set your mind to it.
    For those of you that would like to pick apart my work Here is a brief Biography on me: I'm married ( Married 14 yrs sept 2016 w/ 3 children), and own two homes. I would like you to know that I built this without ever using a credit card. (that has always been my number one rule: If I can't use a debit card then I probably can't afford it.) I started building my first supercharged 1967 Camaro within a year after buying my first house at age 20 which I completed by age 24. Then started building my 72 Camaro which I completed by age 26. Each time I build a car it becomes better then the previous car so there is a very large learning curve. To own a car this bad ass without being a penny in debt for it is a huge accomplishment. Obviously everything is not perfect but I have plenty of time to work at it. Plus if everything was perfect I wouldn't have anything to tinker with and that would be no fun.
    After a year or so of posting that I was going to build bad ass 496 CID stroker motor I have finally finished my steroid machine and here is the stressful moment of truth, I have to be honest I was scared. lol

    Very cool. Like the oval port roots intake.
    One thing though. Perhaps swap those gold rockers for a set of Crower Stainless steel rockers. Those might cost you as much as .035-.050 lift due to deflection. Also if you're not, use the absolute thickest pushrod walls you can find. Weight is not an issue for that combination, flex is. Never the less, very cool first build for sure.

      Yes I love the look 👀 I also have a 68 SS with the 327 and I have done modified the engine and m-22 transmission. It is a screamer and will be tested on the rack soon. I’m guessing it will be in the 450 hp range and 400 torque. I have a few videos of that Car posted and I’ll be posting a video of the Dyno test soon.

    Isn't the smoke an issue while its idling? Whats leaking causing the smoke? Very beautiful but a work in progress i assume. Ah didn't see its the first start :P What would happen if you were in say the rain? Would it enter the motor through the blower?

    Just curious, but where are the hoses from your valve covers routed to?
    Is it a system that goes to breather tanks and then back to the oil pan, or just to catch cans?

    • @TweekerDan1984
      @TweekerDan1984  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are actually routed to special ports welded on the exhaust to increase the ventilation.

    • @TweekerDan1984
      @TweekerDan1984  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They allow for crankcase ventilation, relieving the pressure on this style build can be very beneficial. The lines actually lead into the exhaust allowing the pressure of the exhaust to pull air from the engine.

    • @TweekerDan1984
      @TweekerDan1984  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @TweekerDan1984
      @TweekerDan1984  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello there, I purchased my brackets from summit racing. March and billet specialties have some really solid brackets. If you go into summit racing’s website they have the option to enter your engine specs and choose a bracket that will best fit your needs. I have the alternator on the passenger side on this 72 Camaro with the 8-71 blower and on my 67 with a 6-71 blower I have the alternator on the driver side.

    • @TweekerDan1984

      A lot of the smoke was to be expected as the majority of the smoke was from oils on the new parts and the oil on the exhaust that was burning off. There was also a rubber Taylor tag on one of the plug wires that was touching the exhaust and after relocating the tag all was well and after this initial start up things cleared up smoothly.

      @SinjinTaijeKhan Also I would like to add that I’ve completed a few builds on different toys since this car was put on the road and I’ve gained a-lot of knowledge and experience for improvement. I like to think of it as leveling up. 👍🏼 This was a fun build and being only my second build and having it hold up so well has been quite the accomplishment. I remember imagining before ever attempting to fire this car up that this car wasn’t going to start or that the motor would blow immediately.

    My dude, I am 100% a Honda guy for life, but I have always loved split bumper Camaros, and massive blowers. I was doing a Google search for "Weiand blower sticking out of hood" and to my delight your Camaro was one of the first results. I love this stuff. The fact that you built it yourself, in a garage, without charging it all, and maintaining a car/family life balance is awesome. As a husband, father, home owner, and car guy I can totally relate and appreciate all of this.
    If you have any interest at all in seeing a roots style blower on a modern Honda feel free to check out a few of my videos - obviously nowhere near the power levels of yours, but some muscle car guys still like seeing a 2.0L engine with a 1.0L blower revving to 8600rpm and making 300whp in a 2300lb. car.

      No no no I mean if you drive like this with a hood on and a hole for the engine to fit in. I think it's illegal because the engine limits the amount of space you have to see when you're driving.
      By the way, I didn't know it was illegal to drive with a hood on when you have a blower engine on your car.

So it might have been a Fathers day gift from the wife Or kids who knows I like to think it was rather then Some Obviously confused wannabee Motorhead actually purchased it for himself...

      I actually agree and in fact own both style scoops, I started with the nice and clean Weiand Hilborn style air scoop. I happen to like the butterfly look more and I actually only started to build blower cars after watching the first Fast and Furious many moons ago. Something about the butterfly’s opening and closing makes me smile. In my opinion it looks good both ways but the Hilborn or weiand brand scoop are much better quality then any butterfly scoop that I’ve come across off summit racing.
