    Just so everyone knows, the audio clips of the exhaust from the rear were normalized to a LOWER dB level so your headphones don't blow out, and so you can hear the full range of the tone!

    Adding another comment, on cold starts with the GS v2 and Invidia r400. It's loud outside but inside the house I cant really hear it. I live in a highly populated area. My neighbor (old head in the 70s, me being late 30s) said my car sounds great while he was getting into his car. Driving around without getting on it, sounds great and will not impede your conversations with people. Getting on it with windows up is quiet in the cabin but loud enough to know you got on it.

    if you let it roll while in 1st or 2nd gear (Clutch in) rev it, you get to hear all the cool different pops. depending on how much you rev, gives you different's amount of aggressive pops. I have a catted jpipe and remark cat-back exhaust, resonated

    I have a GS v2 with Invida R400 and love how it sounds. The recording microphone picks up more than what it is.
    Cold starts are loud but give the oil a chance to circulate then roll off.

    Nice video. It's interesting to learn that this aftermarket cat is more effective than the stock one. I definitely wouldn't have expected that. I just purchased a 2020 WRX Limited and I had ruled out any major exhaust mods for that reason, but maybe I'll consider something like this after all. However, that'll be a ways down the road because this car was way too expensive to risk losing my warranty. I do plan to upgrade the shifter stop and bushing immediately, but other performance mods will have to wait.

      To be honest, you're right most of the jpipe's are similar. Grimmspeed's has a different location for it's cat, further down the pipe which supposedly helps with exhaust velocity. cobb's ends with a 2.5" or 2" flange instead of 3". Other than that... They're all very similar. When going for it, don't give in to the cheapest out there. Trust in the name brands who produce the best quality products.

      For the WRX, no other mods are technically required to safely go "stage 2". If you just want to do the GS jpipe and get tuned for it, that's completely fine! If you plan on getting an etune or protune, I'd suggest adding atleast the GS ebcs as well, just for more reliability and control.

    I just bought a 2019 WRX with this exact combination. I already got pulled over by a MA state trooper for just maintaining the speed limit on the highway. Just driving by, no extra revs or acceleration. He let me off with a warning because I just bought it and I passed inspection last week. This was only 2 miles from my house so I think he's going to be looking for me from now on. My last car was a stock G37 and in 5 years I never got pulled over. I need to either quiet this thing down significantly or sell the car. He quoted me the MA law that states aftermarket exhaust may not be any louder than stock. Total BS as I could buy a Hellcat that would be just as loud but that's OK? Why because I spent a lot of money? I watched your Q300 video but I think that's still loud enough to get me pulled over constantly. Apparently my J-Pipe adds a lot of volume by itself. What's the quietest possible exhaust that will not require a retune? I have a protune with TGV and EGR delete, BRZ intake and flex fuel mods, all of which COBB recently stopped supporting because of laws so I can NEVER retune without permanently removing most of my mods. I am NOT going to put up with getting pulled over constantly. I hate to sell a 413whp WRX I just bought but I have no desire to practice up on my sidewalk Olympics and be on a first name basis with local police.

    • @WRXGarage
      @WRXGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The quietest option is the stock exhaust! You should be able to buy a 3" to 2.5" converter to use the stock catback with your jpipe.

    • @JALNIN66
      @JALNIN66 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@WRXGarage Thanks so much for your quick response. I'm subscribing now. But wouldn't it require a retune if I downsize to 2.5"? I thought I had to stay with 3" to avoid a retune. If I can get away with it I'll do it. My son has a stock exhaust on his 2016 and he wants the R400 so we just could swap. It is not possible for me to ever retune this car because my mods are no longer supported by COBB.

    • @WRXGarage
      @WRXGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the video. Your the only one I saw on TH-cam that did the heat wrap. I live in Ny , and am worried that the snow/salt combo could cause damage to the pipe if I put this on. Is this true? What made you decide to do this? I purchased the jpipe but didn’t install it yet. Want to do the wrap before I attempt to install I am also worried about stripping the bolts.

    • @WRXGarage
      @WRXGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      As the heat wrap heats up, it hardens, kind of creating a bit of a barrier. In my opinion, it will atleast keep the salt off the pipe itself. As long as you drive frequently, the heat being put into the wrap will keep it dry! I decided to add the wrap to help reduce heatsoak near the turbo! It actually helps with getting the Cat hotter faster as well. As for stripping the studs... It's a gamble, some people have no issues, many strip or break atleast one. Definitely pre-soak them in PBblaster overnight if possible, also heat the turbo housing with a torch if possible when actually removing them

    I'm about to install that same GrimmSpeed J-pipe on my 2021 WRX, but my plan is to pair it with Cobb's SS catback. While running Cobb's stage 2 OTS map with GrimmSpeed's J-pipe, did you encounter any concerning number trends with AF Learning, AF Correction, DAM, Feedback Knock, Fine Knock Learn, etc? I'm mainly asking because I'd like to run Cobb's stage 2+ OTS map for a while rather than immediately springing for a dyno tune upon J-pipe installation. How long did you run Cobb's stage 2 OTS map before moving on to an E-tune or dyno tune? Thanks.

      @WRXGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Running COBB's OTS stage 2 with the GS jpipe is absolutely safe. Maybe not 100% optimized.. an etune will likely be more reliable and stronger overall. That being said, I ran the stage 2 COBB tune for around 6-8 months and didn't have any issues. If you have access to 93 octane, I'd run 93 octane with the 91 tune.

      An ebcs is not required! It just allows tuners to more accurately control and monitor boost when tuning the car more aggressively. Kevin's car added the ebcs for the dyno tune, not when he added the jpipe initially.

    • @WRXGarage
      @WRXGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This entire setup is probably in the middle of the pack for loudness. If I were you, I'd go for the q300 catback instead. I think that would meet exactly what you're looking for. The r400 is a couple steps louder.

    • @WRXGarage
      @WRXGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Catted only. COBB's tune is technically designed for only the COBB catted jpipe, but you'll be able to safely run their tune temporarily with any brand name catted jpipe. Again, the tune itself won't be the best because it's not exactly designed for your jpipe, but overall, it will be safe and pretty reliable. An etune or protune will always be better.

It does not feel fast but. Please suggest a tune which would give me more low end torque. The vrs has sport dct from audi and brakes from the cayman. I am very new to North America. Also, I’ve never owned a Japanese car. Please help. Thanks.

    • @WRXGarage

      To be honest, you should NEVER go more than half throttle below 3000rpm anyways. No well-tuned car will have good power that low in the rpm band! Also, keep in mind that these cars are turbocharged so the powerband peaks at around 5500 in every gear

      The tomei is basically a straight pipe so yes it would be much much louder. In my opinion, single exits are way too raspy and Honda-ish on the FA engine. I would definitely look into the ets extreme with a resonated midpipe.

      I bought 50 ft and probably used about 20ft! As you can see we only went down past the trans with it. You'd probably be able to wrap the entire pipe up to the cat with 50.
