      It should be said that skyrim isn't based entirely on "vikings"
      The Eastern side is Norway and Denmark. The west is England and Scotland. With solitude being England and the reach Scotland. Elder scrolls nords are anglo saxon and norse and highlander and dane all at once.
      Either way it's a really cool mod list. But I'd love the variety added by the other cultural elements nords have in the elder scrolls lore!

      I just want to note the Battleaxe, Greatsword and Sword moveset you showcased is actually the Elder Souls Moveset not the Nordic Moveset. If you don't delete the Elder Souls movesets in the MCO mod they tend to overwrite the mco animations you try to install.

    To vary the Farmhouses more, I suggest using "Unigue Towns - Base Object Swapper" and choosing the Northern Farmhouse options for Winterhold, Dawnstar and Morthal, skipping Falkreath. Then installing "Northern Vanilla Farmhouses", and adding "Unique Northern Vanilla Farmhouses". This will give you similar looks as COTN Dawnstar/Morthal without all of the patches, and make the other villages and Inns unique to their region.

    • @Dparrey
      @Dparrey ปีที่แล้ว +5

    A tip for both realism and immersion in your weapon descriptions
    You do not want a sword to be hard all the way through the harder metal is the edge which is needed to retain it's sharpness, however the steel used on the spine or center of the blade traditionally is usually a softer steel so that it can flex when it makes contact with a hard object like armor or a shield.

    10:09 Another unique Norse weapon you could have included here before pressing on is “The Undead” sword mod, which adds the unique sword “The Undead”; inspired by the sword “Draugr” from “The Northman” you can find it at the bottom of a well that leads to a mini-cairn/barrow, to the north of Windhelm near the coastline. You’ll know you’re close when you find a cave nearby.
    I think it’s “The Chill” but I could be mistaken.

    This video was less about making Skyrim "viking-themed" and more about making it what people think a "viking-fantasy" looks like. Especially if the "Vikings" tv show is your main frame of reference.
    The armour sets especially were just pure power fantasy and nothing like stuff that would have actually been worn. At least the revised town-guard sets had some tonal consistency. I just don't understand how a fantasy-Roman gladiator, or armour sets that remind you of other games, makes it feel like a "viking experience."

  • @Linadhin
    @Linadhin ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Another mod I love for this aesthetic is called "Away, come away". It has a short quest that gets you an armor set and a 2h sword, and I believe it adds a nordic body / face paint. I'm surprised it still seems to be somewhat of a hidden gem (At least, noone i know knew it, and the numbers on its page are modest).

    Yo, amazing video HeavyBurns. I also love the nordic theme in my load order. For Whiterun, I'd like to toss in my own viking themed recommendation. Try using Spaghetti's Whiterun + GG's Impoverished Whiterun + Whiterun Defensive Stockade Walls. Can also work with Capital Whiterun, but the defensive stockades and mud streets really sell the look imo (without having to deal with Fortified Whiterun or any of the other big overhauls). JK's Redbag's Dragonsreach is my personal favorite, and then of course Glorious Doors of Skyrim. With Skyland Whiterun and Designs of the Nords for textures (mostly for the banners).

  • @Niobesnuppa
    @Niobesnuppa 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    To be honest, if you want your Skyrim world to look more like Scandinavia, I recommend the Folkvangr grass overhaul or the Verdant grass overhaul instead of the one in this video. This grass is too lush, uniform and green, making the environment look more like some milder climate further south in Europe. Most grass here in Scandinavia is much less uniform, and tends to be dotted more with random bushes and wildflowers, and often the grass is patchy due to parts of it being destroyed by groundfrost in the winter. The grass we have here isn't very pretty to look at.

    • @matts9871
      @matts9871 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      i was going to say something about that! seeing the autumn-colored patchy scrub disappear to make room for a random green grassy field made my heart hurt a little; i live in the Arctic and the vanilla Skyrim tundras are incredibly accurate to how the biome looks in real life (and they make me miss summer..).
      i have seen pictures of Scandinavian tundra and they look very similar to where i am, as well! just a hint more green there in places (from the colors of moss, lichen, and very short green plants), and i think that's beautiful too. 😊
      ((also.. i wish there was a mod that added ravens and all the funny noises they make, rather than crows.. here at least, we're too north for crows. have to go 7 hours south to start seeing any!))

    • @Niobesnuppa
      @Niobesnuppa หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@matts9871 Very late reply, but I recommend Mihail's Crows & Ravens mod, which adds both. We have both crows and ravens in Scandinavia in the real world, though sadly only crows in the part of Norway I live in.

He was later watered down by Alessia when she combined the nordic and altmeri pantheons into the nine devines. The idea of a Stormcloak aligned port, worshiping the old god of ransom, raiding the imperial supply chain on the sea of ghosts bound for solitude just sounds so epic. Wind ruler armor can be patched with HDT-SMP as to add physics to hair and armor. This is already done for Skyrim special edition but does anyone know of any Legendary edition patch?

    These mods are so cool! Thank you for showing them off! I am curious if you’ll do a modding video on Whiterun? It’s my favorite city and there’s so many mods to choose from.

    I would also recomend alongside Bears of the North to also get Wolves of Skyrim. Much greater improvement and fitting for this showcase, compared to Vanilla Wolves

    I wish we could have some type of sailing mod to go with all of these Viking mods. It would be amazing to be able to sail the rivers and seas of Skyrim.

    First off, I want to say thank you for making this. Skyrim looks fantastic after the mods, and I'll definitely be using this as a guide for my own. There is one error you made I wanted to mention though, the Blackwater Blade doesn't have Viking runestones near the hilt XD sorry, those are Daedric runes. :p Just wanted to point that out.

    Tbh, RedBag's Falkreath is much more nordic than Cities of the North. His Rorikstead and Morthal are fantastic too.

    • @Niobesnuppa
      @Niobesnuppa 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep, as a Norwegian, I can verify that most of the stuff Redbag has made looks extremely Norwegian. Like, his overhaul of Falkreath genuinely is like walking through the Norwegian folk museum. Cities of the North are nice and unique, but they're very clearly fantasy with little basis in any real-world cultures.

    Are we players able to find a mod to alter all the books? Storyline featuring the Sagas would be so sick; or the story static & is dependent on the vanilla books found within the realm?

    "Let's make Skyrim more viking-themed!"
    *throws in a bunch of 16th century swords, late Medieval plate armour and some stuff from the Witcher and Warhammer*
    *also adds gladiator armour and calls it medieval-themed*
