The reason is really funny: The Oriental Land Company kept calling Disney, wanting to make a Disneyland in Japan. But the folks at Disney were already preoccupied with Disneyland, Magic Kingdom, and Epcot. They didn't have the money to work on another park. Repeatedly, someone answers the phone, then exclaims "The Japanese are calling again!" After call after call, Disney decided to give the OLC an offer so one-sided that they just had to refuse and stop calling: The Oriental Land Company must run the park themselves and fund everything, while Disney can make the attractions and get the royalties. ...then the OLC accepted. Tokyo Disneyland was then and continues to be a massive success.
I knew someone who worked at US Disneyland. She said after midnight the trains only came every hour, so she'd often not get home until 4 or 5 in the morning after a late shift and helping clean up after the guests. Hearing that Tokyo Disneyland takes care of their workers makes me happy.
Also Starbucks has different items that are exclusive to the country, like the Sakura frappe only available during Sakura season in Japan. The idea’s not that mind blowing.
This is probably because the Japanese parks are operated by another company that basically is Disney's guy in the field. He's on the ground and at the front lines.
I've been! I fully intend to go back, i actually FELT LIKE A KID. Ive been to Disneyland in the U.S., its candle went out LOOOOOOONG ago in comparison to Tokyo's. If i remember correctly, it was around 70 bucks per ticket for half of the park, which is hella cheap from what i can recall of the Disneyland here!!
Halloween at TDR is super fun guys! When I was little my mom took me to either TDL or TDS on Halloween every year and their halloween is just awesome. Food, the atmosphere, goods etc it's just gooood
I had a friend that worked at Disneyland in California for over 10 years, he ended up living in the tunnels under the park, due to crap pay as a Disney employee. He was a character director,
When I went to Tokyo, Disneyland, all the characters wanted to talk to me because I was the only kid that spoke English. It was pretty cool, especially when characters would call over other characters to come talk to me. I'm pretty sure too many Japanese people speak English for this to happen again.
yes , again reasons are for transportation and employee importance. that in itself is a big move considering how Japan is very work oriented and some workers don't even go home .. they just stay at capsule hotels
Why do employees at Universal Japan seem much happier than employees in Tokyo Disney Sea? When we rode Journey to the center of the earth the guy that escorted us seemed concerned and worried about something personal, as did most other cast members. Who knows.
Went to both a week ago and didn't really notice but maybe it's that Osakan people are generally much more open and lively (seems to be a trend with southerners everywhere huh?) in public spaces and conversation than Tokyo people, so maybe that influenced the policies on greeting guests and demeanor and you picked up on it??
Fun fact: Tokyo Disneyland isn’t actually owned by Disney, rather the actual company that owns it pays Disney in royalties.
You can’t say “fun fact” and then “I’m pretty sure” 😂 but you are indeed correct
@@bbkangs bet
Oh wow that’s so cool
That's even better. 😊

So.....they aren't as money grabbing.....nice
That is exactly what I was thinking. It is refreshing to hear.
Which is nice. The Japanese parks really are lot cheaper than the Western ones. It's like, 60 dollars for a day at Universal in Osaka.
You do realize they can be money grabbing in other ways, right? 🙄
@@drea94 Well, not as blatant or inconvenient as their American counterpart.
Well they sure do charge a fuck ton for merchandise too

heading to disneyland in anaheim in two weeks, and i’m SHOCKED that halloween nights aren’t extra at the tokyo location - that’s the dream!!
Ya but they also close at 10 where disnyland closes at 12 lol
@@Catherine______ Only on the busiest days. It’s not uncommon for Disneyland to close at 10:00.
Christmas and Halloween shows aren’t extra in paris either
They’re considered extras in other places? As someone whose only went to Tokyo Disney I’m actually pretty shocked lol.
Shocked they charge extra in the US. It's included in Paris as well.
I do respect that they close early to allow staff to get home. Especially in a country where staying out late bar hopping is such a common thing.
You know what blows my mind. The idea that I would go to another country on vacation and buy Starbucks.
I mention it because in other Disney Parks there is Starbucks right in the park. Where as the ones in Japan doesn’t. That’s why I mentioned it.
The reason is because other Disney parks have starbucks in them! They even have special disney starbucks cups and mugs and sometimes even pins!
Also Starbucks has different items that are exclusive to the country, like the Sakura frappe only available during Sakura season in Japan. The idea’s not that mind blowing.
I went to Starbucks in Japan solely for their Japan exclusive items. It was neat.
This is probably because the Japanese parks are operated by another company that basically is Disney's guy in the field. He's on the ground and at the front lines.
I lived in Japan for 5 years, still miss it. Used to go to the park every weekend!!
One of the many reasons why I want to go to Japan. Their Disneyland is so much better and they actually care about the workers there!

wow the more. i learn the more tokyo disney is the must better park in the world.
trains not running is good?
@@cooltwittertag trains don’t run bcs humans have to run them that’s why they apologized for being 21 sec late on tv lmao💀 and humans need rest too

Halloween at TDR is super fun guys! When I was little my mom took me to either TDL or TDS on Halloween every year and their halloween is just awesome. Food, the atmosphere, goods etc it's just gooood
THAT'S IT.
I'm going.
I had a friend that worked at Disneyland in California for over 10 years, he ended up living in the tunnels under the park, due to crap pay as a Disney employee.
He was a character director,
Loooove all of this
They want visitors & employees to get to the home at a reasonable time.😊
Now, no more vlogging or live streaming. SO many ppl vlog there at Tokyo Disney! Soon to be at WDW & DL too.
I want to go there so badly 😱😍🥲
As someone who lives near Disney, it’s all true! (I’m going on the 24th October! :D)
They make sense. 😊
When I went to Tokyo, Disneyland, all the characters wanted to talk to me because I was the only kid that spoke English. It was pretty cool, especially when characters would call over other characters to come talk to me. I'm pretty sure too many Japanese people speak English for this to happen again.
Plus around 6pm they start closing some shops and restaurants
When I went to Orlando years ago they didn't charge extra for the evening events. Didn't realize that had changed!
Maaan they should really do after hours stuff!
Man I’m so simple I’d probably just get distracted having fun on the train to Disney that I wouldn’t get off and just ride trains all day
At first glance, that Starbucks drink look like it had corn on the top. I was quite confused for a second. 😆
So, the train is still open after the park is closed?
Companies can pay for after hour events. The company I worked for bought out disney world for after closing for 4 hours.
Hello wow last time when I saw you only had 12k subs and now you have 108k subs
They grow up so quick, don't they, haha. Welcome backk!
I don't do Starbucks when I'm home so no problem.
Did that Frappuccino have corn!?
Awesome!!
Also Tokyo Disney is not actually owned by Disney.
Technically it is owned by Disney but it’s the other company that carries out the operations.
@@Floofel. Disney only kinda gets the money of merchandise sale
Awesome series! Thank you for sharing this. 😀✨
but hong kong disneyland have starbucks
I wish they’d remove the Starbucks from the US parks. Talk about a waste of space!
That's kinda cool
If only the us cared like this
USA Disney world and Disneyland could never! They make u pay for everything!
For the Halloween and Christmas events, they still close at 10?
yes , again reasons are for transportation and employee importance. that in itself is a big move considering how Japan is very work oriented and some workers don't even go home .. they just stay at capsule hotels

@@tvsonicserbia5140 I suppose. Both parks had kind and patient workers.
Wow almost like they have sense and want you to have fun instead of spend all your money
Bro if you want to Starbucks in the morning while you’re at Disney you have to go to Disney World
Planing to visit it on my Japan trip it looks sick
I’m sorry but as a non-American hearing this I’m just going “oh cool so it’s normal?” 😂
Sounds perfect
That first rule is more of a “first world problem” that you can’t grab your special little Starbucks sugar drink inside of Disney
The holiday thing is how it should be smh instead of $100+ Oogie boogie bash tickets 😔

Starbucks paper straw for environment in plastic single use cup😂😂😂😂
I've only seen what you can't do At disney videos.
Honestly I don't see the point in going at all.
I mean like what can you do?
Good, screw Starbucks.
I wish Disney would pay all their workers a fair wage
In Tokyo they do because Disney doesn't operate the park, a local business does. They just pay Disney for royalties and copyright
@@kane3383 that sounds awesome!
Chiba disneyland

I feel this series is less about things you can't do at TDL and more about how weird Disneyland and Disneyworld are.

What language were you attempting in that nonsense post of yours?
Dude just grab a hot Boss coffee out of a vending machine at Maihama station on your way in. You’re in Japan.
Starbucks is so overrated. Don't they have any other coffee there?
Or maybe ... just maybe ... brew coffee at home
I mention it because Starbucks is a staple inside Disney Parks in other locations. But it's not in Japan. I'm simply showing the differences.

JOKES ON YOU THERE ARE STARBUCKS IN HONG KONG DISNEY LAND
No one cares about Starbucks.
I do
They pay so little the cast members can't afford cars, wow.
good for tokyo disneyland. you american tourists expect too much
