I'd tell him Luffy makes friends however he wants. We could make a list of the weird ways he does it. (Most of them involve punching someone) 1. Ace and Sabo - Spent an entire day getting tortured for information and getting punched. 2. Coby - He punches him because Coby keeps saying being the pirate king is impossible. 3. Zoro - Punched Helmeppo for planning to execute Zoro, then freed him. 4. Nami - Gave a dog a bag of dog food after punching a guy on a lion. 5. Usopp - Happened to meet his dad. 6. Sanji - Liked his soup. 7. Laboon - Punched him so he'd stop hurting himself. And we barely got out of East Blue.
this is one of my favourite traits of luffy that always stays consistent. He can immediately read someones personality perfectly. He knew choppers true feelings and because he is so blunt he just told him exactly what he wanted. Same thing with characters like nami in arlong park, franky and robin in water 7, and sanji in whole cake. Luffy has never lost that amazing ability to read someone's emotion which is what brings out the best in everyone he is with.
In other words, he is empathetic. Not exactly merciful or compassionate like Izuku Midoriya, but he is aware of how other people feel. No wonder he seems like the most shonen-esque protagonist ever written.

Well said dude. I hate these anime fans who only watch the original soundtrack. They feel they are superior to others. There are plenty of great dubs out there if they just gave them a chance.
Most of the anime I watched is always the English dub first like Dragon Ball Z, Naruto, Hellsing and this show which the dubs are really good so it's pointless really to say that every anime dub is bad. There was once a time where I hated the entirety of NYAV (4kids usual VA group) but then I watched Berserk which was awesome, so what I'm saying is that sometimes a good dub can come out of something that people don't expect besides Funimation.
The english dub is bad? Why? Because it keeps the original soundtrack, dialogue and do not tamper with the plot? Because they try and match the Japanese voices with the English ones? Because they do not change the names and have near-perfect pronunciation and don't censor? Hating the DUB, solely because you heard the Japanese VA's first doesn't make your argument valid. It just shows that you're one dimensional and can't accept change.
@@scotsoulgem nah dog its trash, 4kids is actually even better, ok trash is a bit rude its not trash, but I dont think they do any of the characters justice except maaaybe zoro and sanji are mediocre
re-watching drum island, chopper's story, a reindeer who became human, hit so hard for me and resonated so much for me as a trans person with similar experiences. from the feeling of being torn between what you were and what you are, and feeling like you'll never be able to truly be either or be accepted by either side, so to survive you have to constantly hide away half of who you are just to placate others, and finding people who support but don't understand you, and the fear that you'll drive them away too, so you just hide bits of yourself from them too, all felt so awfully and painfully familiar. it was like watching an abstraction of myself onscreen, reliving the same beats of my life, give or take the whole "death of father figure" thing since my folks are still around. it brought a sort of catharsis, knowing i didn't feel so alone, and i wondered if anyone else watched that arc, feeling the same way. Which brings us to this scene. Rewatching it, this scene reminds me of a young trans girl, who wears old pink nightshirts in the safety home and fails to hide a grin when her guardian calls her "daughter", but still keeps her hair short and ratty and throws on a button up and slacks when she goes out and pretends she's still a boy so people won't call her slurs, and a group of openly queer friends who are loud, happy, and abundantly and proudly themselves, regardless of how society feels about them, who actually get her, and understand her for who she is in a way no one else ever has before. And that girl is scared. Because she wants to go. She wants to be with them so badly, to be part of their group, their crew, their nakama. But still, she feels so scared, and like no matter what, she'll never truly be confident in herself the way they are. I mean, these people throw bricks at cops, and they do it so eagerly, too! How could she ever be so fearless and hopeful like they are? So she makes up all number of excuses on why she can't be part of their group. That she's not a "real" girl. That she has all these unpleasant physical traits that she's been bullied for her whole life. That she has a birth defect that her family hated her for. That she's a "monster". And she so clearly wants to be part of their group, their crew, their family, but she's so afraid. And in that moment, the crew's "leader", an asexual boy who knows those same struggles of queerness, cuts through all the bullshit of her excuses, and lets her know that she's well and truly accepted and part of their family already with a simple four words: "SHUT UP! LET'S GO!" When I saw this scene for the first time, I teared up, because of the catharsis of seeing luffy cut through chopper's self-loathing dialogue and comfort and recruit him so concisely was very enjoyable. But on the re-watch, I bawled my eyes out, because it felt like I saw myself on that screen, making all sorts of excuses as to why I couldn't truly be myself, only for someone who truly understood me to push past all that and give me the reassurance and companionship i craved so badly for years, and it was just too much. This scene is so amazing for so many different reasons, and although I don't think Oda intentionally wrote Chopper to be a trans allegory (or queer allegory in general), it's like My Life as a Teenage Robot, where the lack of intention while writing doesn't necessarily indicate that it isn't there. This series truly is something so special to me, and its arcs like these that will cause it to live on in my heart for decades to come.
If there were some voice actors that had the knowledge of doing anime dubbing, I'd do my best to hire them. Terra Strong would've definitely been a good choice to play as Chopper. Unfortunately, when I met her one time, she told me that it would've taken a long time for her to try to get something down because of things that involve doing the dubbing, like doing a certain take a number of times and lip synching, etc. Still, MAJOR PROPS to Brina and Funimation's cast for this One Piece dub.

He does Cross from D-gray man, Kuwabara from Yu Yu Hakusho, Ritsu from OHSHC, Armstrong from FMA and so many more!
@Tvyothefuture Was this a reply to me, because if so then I never stated I didn't like it, in fact I do like it, it's a very good dub. I was simply pointing out way in which it would be even better, if they had to translate it, 'Family' would probably work better. If this wasn't directed at me then I'm sorry.
