Because BB didn't get his second fruit powers by eating a fruit at all (at least not the regular way), he did some kind of ritual with White Beard to get a hold of the powers of the Gura-Gura no mi. Whether this is due to the nature of his devil fruit, a special constitution or anything isn't known at the moment. But for sure what IS known is that he was able to take for himself and also able to give others DF powers, although it seems they have to die for that (otherwise he could just use people as DF storage and swap at will). Sooner or later, there might be a time where they reveal the minor details of how all that work, but not now.

This was my highlight of the episode. Bepo casually showing why he's the best vice captain Law could ask for and helping him escape despite wanting to save the others too. And Law saying he can't leave his friends behind just made me so happy. Corazon and Luffy really changed him for the better. I love them.

Idk what short of training BB has done but, whatever it is I gotta say he must've put himself through some hell. I like the contrast of their crews loyalty showing here: Bepo putting his life on the line for a small chance of saving his captain while Van Augur realizes his shots aren't landing and immediately teleports away to save himself and let his captain get hit instead.
Reminds me of how Custodes from 40k function. They don't work together as a team, but fill in the gaps others leave open. Van obviously couldn't stop the rock from impacting, so by letting BB and others get hit, he saw an opening to take out Bepo. he filled the gap to achieve victory by any means.
They were caught off guard yes, but a sulong who already knows how to fight like Bepo would definitely be a tough battle. Also, clearly looks like the ranged guy is bad against close range fighters lol
This was only possible because of Chopper. He had doubts it would work, but if he can perfect it, he can trigger Sulong without the full moon. That’s some insane potion crafting right there.
This was also Bepo's first time in Sulong state so that might also contribute to why he couldn't hold it for long. It normally takes training or an emotional trigger to go into Sulong form + full moon based on what we've seen so far from Carrot.

I feel like in the end, Blackbeard's downfall will happen because no one on his crew has genuine loyalty to him like the other crews we've seen. Even Kaido has King's absolute loyalty and Big Mom's children all have genuine affection for her.
this is honestly fantastic just storywise in my opinion. the other vice captains like Zoro and Killer have have been able to show why they're the 2nd in command to their respective captains strength, and now Bepo can show his strength kicking a bit of Blackbeard Crew butts

Bepo was willing to take on the main crew of an Emperor to save his captain. Van Augur ran away and left his captain to take the brunt of an attack without hesitation.
I feel like in the end, Blackbeard's downfall will happen because no one on his crew has genuine loyalty to him like the other crews we've seen. Even Kaido has King's absolute loyalty and Big Mom's children all have genuine affection for her.
Maybe my favorite One Piece episode
this is honestly fantastic just storywise in my opinion. the other vice captains like Zoro and Killer have have been able to show why they're the 2nd in command to their respective captains strength, and now Bepo can show his strength kicking a bit of Blackbeard Crew butts
