    Hi Bonnie. I've just started this throw and would like to say that you explain everything really well.. it looked complicated but with patience and practice I am really enjoying it. My advice to other people is to watch your tutorial first and take your time. Thankyou Bonnie from Wales in the UK ❤️🌼x

    I’ve been making this throw, and I am so enjoying your kind nature, concise instructions and encouragement. I have had an injury to my left arm and found it very therapeutic and relaxing due to my current situation. Being a basic crocheter prior to this, I absolutely love learning new stitches and watching my new throw come to life. This will be given to my grandchildren. Thank you Bonnie for allowing me to learn something new whilst I rehabilitate.

    I have always known I crochet too tight. Gauge swatches never worked out but I believed it had to be tighter to look right. After an embarrassing number of years, I think I have finally figured it out, thanks to you. Yesterday I started watching your video for this throw and now I know. Loose is lovely. I have taken out rows 10, 11 and 12 and started them over, much looser and it looks much better. Thank you so much!

    I kept losing or gaining stitches. While watching the video and reading the pattern, I noticed that row 13 is not the same as row 11. On row 13 after the turning chain you SC in the first two stitches with no chain in between. I pray that is what has caused the stitch count error. Keeping 182 stitches in the popcorn pattern has been a challenge.

My grandmother use to crochet when I was little and just like you she made it look easy. I would tell her that and she would laugh.. She taught me the basics but I forgot how over time and just recently picked it back up. My grandmother was the best I've ever seen. We use to have some of her pieces but moving around so much over time they unfortunately were lost. But I now know why she laughed...it isn't easy til you really catch on but it is still fun😁...

I have a friend who's dear to my heart and thought this would be the perfect one to make for her out of all the other videos I've saved. When I saw all the detail to this pattern I thought, I'm never going to be able to make this lol. I didn't realize how many stitches that I've learned along the way and this is definitely one that I can do. I have a few month's to work on it so, I'm going to make it.
    Bonnie, thank you so much for all you're beautiful patterns. I'm in awe at how talented you are. Hopefully I'll get a lot better at crocheting after making this, time will tell lol. Again thank you so much for all you're hard work and also making the patterns seem so easy to do.❤❤

    I have made this throw once before, but it appears that the written pattern may have changed slightly since then. I am having a really hard time getting row “18”. I don’t have enough spaces to make the last popcorn, and 2 SC to end. I don’t understand what’s going on. I have frogged all the way back to 10 a few times, and come up with the same issue each time when I get to 18. Is there any document that would provide stitch counts for each row to ensure I’m able to locate my mistake? I’m so sad, this has been a great pattern for me in the past and I just wonder if there’s been a typographical error somewhere. Also, in the video you show Row 13 starts with 2 SC in a row, but the written pattern shows SC, CH, SC with a skipped Popcorn between SC. Does anyone know if that might be where things are going wrong for me?

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would stick to the video as much as possible. Yarnspirations has updated this design and even removed my name (the designer) from it. They own this and can do whatever they wish. I’m sorry that additional errors may have been written into it. This is why I now retain the rights to all my work going forward.

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If this is for the Arrow Stitch, please don't worry about this. You can work a small swatch and continue with the rows that follow and see if that makes it look better. This stitch by nature will have an open look around the treble crochet area.

    I have ripped out the popcorn row a few times, now after "thinking" I completed it and doing row 25 I have discovered I lost Alot of stitches somewhere! Beautiful pattern and wish I could successfully make it but I may have to give up, I am getting so frustrated ☹

    • @joebaker9861
      @joebaker9861 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Dear Rhonda, please never give up. Sure, you may have to occasionally pull out a row or two, but in the end, it will be so worth it. Just think of the face of the person that will receive this wonderful gift! I myself have completed projects, just to pull them completely apart and do it all over. Every time I pull out a row, it's because I learned what not to do. Take your time and be patient with yourself. You will eventually finish this, and when you do, you will be so proud of your accomplishment. Good luck. I say this as I am only half way through video #3 myself.

    My popcorns were flat using 4 SC. I posed the question to my crochet group on wether to use 5 or 6 SC instead. They all told me to use 4 dc instead. They certainly pop more, but before I continue, is there a reason not to? Are the popcorns supposed to be more subtle?

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Amanda Tomato in order to make them pop more, you may need to make the chain one that joins the SCs tighter. I would be wary of using double Crochet’s because of the height of this stitch.

    Dog gone it! I got messed up again by following the printed and verbal instructions to “repeat row 11” when you get to row13!! If you do both rows exactly the same, you will end up with an extra stitch!
    When you get to row 13 you DO NOT repeat row 11 exactly the same!! Row 11 starts out with a sc in the same stitch THEN “ch 1” and you continue on repeating that.
    However, Row 13 (where are you are told to repeat row 11) it starts differently! In row13 you will begin with a sc in the same stitch, but you will not put a chain in between that stitch and the next-if you do you will end up with an extra stitch! You show doing it the correct way without the chain between the first and second sc stitches in the video, but say to do it exactly the same as row 11! So essentially on row 13 you begin with a sc in the same stitch & then without adding a chain go immediately to the next stitch and put in another sc & after that you go to the repetition pattern of sc, chain one, sc. I didn’t catch that difference when I went off on my own- after you ended the video. I continued using row 11 the way the pattern is written which begins with a single crochet followed by a chain one.
    - which of course led to me having to rip out 6 rows after I realized 1 side was growing longer. Then I spent 3 hours trying to figure out what went wrong by counting & examining every stitch to make sure I had used the proper stitch and the correct number of stitches!! Very frustrating! Is there something’s wrong with my comprehension of how to interpret a pattern when it says to repeat the same row? I hope to grow from this experience!

    Hi Bonnie. I am really enjoying these videos. You explain it all so well. I am working on the popcorn rows and I have a question. How come I am using the largest hook and yet my work is ending up curving in?

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The popcorn stitch, as used in this throw, usually requires a crochet hook one sized larger than the gauge hook to make up for the tightness in this stitch. If you find that these rows are pulling inward (and the fabric on the ends is shorter than the fabric of the other stitches), by all means try a hook 2 sizes larger or whatever size you need to make these rows even with the previous rows of crocheting. Just be careful to return to your original hook to work the row that discontinues the popcorn.

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The best way to count these rows (which is tricky) is to count up all the "chain-1's" (the one at the top of the popcorn, and the one in between, plus 2 at the end I believe) and multiply by the number 2. This will give you an accurate stitch count. I hope this helps!

      Actually, both. Are you referring to the row that follows the popcorn row (with back side facing) or the actual popcorn row? Every other popcorn row should have the popcorns alternating (as in the photo of the afghan), but the row with the back side facing should have a sc in the ch-1 of the popcorn, (then work a ch 1,) and then sc in the ch-1 in between the popcorns. • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Honestly, this would require a complete redesign, and would depend on a number of factors: how much bigger? how much wider? what is your personal crochet gauge, etc. You can always play around with your preferences and fill in any extra stitches with a single crochet when a stitch doesn't meet the multiple of stitches you choose. Because of the center popcorn motif, it is not a simple (or small) multiple. Thanks for understanding!

The only problem l have is the technology of the wool ie worsted weight I'm not quiet sure if this is 8 ply or 12 ply I'm thinking it might be 12 ply as you went up to a large hook. As for the yarn type, I'm not so familiar with Australian yarn, but perhaps the size of the crochet hooks will be helpful? Which yarn do you commonly use with size J (6 mm) crochet hook. Worsted weight yarn is the next size up from DK (double knitting) size, but thinner than bulky weight yarn. I hope this is helpful!

      It could be you have both the US and the UK patterns, and if so, the yarn is sold with different weights in the skeins. The best way to determine the amount of yarn is to use the yardage or meters needed. If you are in the US, the pattern states that you will need 11 skeins of Red Heart Soft, which has 256 yards per skein. That translates into 2,816 yards. Once you know the yardage, you are free to choose any worsted (#4) weight yarn you desire to use. I hope this is helpful!

    Hi Bonnie, Thank you for your videos, I’ve been trying to follow along and make this blanket and I follow better by watching than I do reading, however; when you’re doing row 13, you say to repeat row 11, but in row 11, (5:00) you chain up one, single crochet in the first stitch, chain one, skip the next single crochet then single crochet in the top of the popcorn stitch, chain one then skip...when you’re doing row 13, (right about 9:15 in video), you say “repeat row 11”, but you did two single crochet in the very beginning without a chain 1 in between them and no skipping,

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can do it either way, and it will not compromise the design. I could have chained 1 after that first st (and if I was following the pattern to the letter), but chose to make a minor alteration. This shouldn't matter just as long as the rest of the sc have a ch-1 in between them. I would follow the videos rather than the written directions. I did make some other minor modifications (such as the one you pointed out) in an effort to improve upon the original written pattern.

    • @joebaker9861
      @joebaker9861 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vetailiadou8222 there should be 45 popcorn stitches, with 2 chains and 1 sc between each, for a total of 180 stitches, plus the sc at the beginning and end of each row. That is where the 182 comes from. Just remember, every other row is staggered, so the chain and sc are either before or after the first popcorn stitch, depending on the row. But the count will always be 182.

    Hi Bonnie-HELP! I've ripped out 5 rows of popcorn stitches twice because although I'm being very careful in my count and come up with a total of 45 popcorns each row, the right side of my work starts leaning in towards the left at an angle. What am I doing wrong? Thank you. Hope you can reply soon so I can continue this beautiful afghan

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Did you change to a larger size hook? The popcorn do tend to pull tighter and require this. If you already have gone to one size bigger, you may have to go up another size to help this become more even.

    Need some help. The left side of my work is leaning in on the popcorn stitch rows. The first popcorn row has 45 popcorns, the 2nd has 44, 3rd has 44 and my 4th row of popcorns has 43. What am I doing wrong??

      @presleydarby5078 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok. I frogged it all and I am starting over with the 2nd row of popcorns. Throughout this section I should have 45 popcorns on each row, correct?

    • @presleydarby5078
      @presleydarby5078 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Also are you putting a sc into every popcorn stitch? It's hard to tell where the sc go in the video.

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@presleydarby5078 The sc goes in the ch-1 that closes up the popcorn. I don't remember the exact count off hand (of the popcorns), but it is consistent, and doesn't decrease. Also be sure that you are using a larger size hook for this section or it will pull inwards.

    Hello Bonnie, I just started this project and am loving it! I switched to the larger hook for the popcorn row and I have 45 popcorn across, but I noticed that you had 3 stitches left at the end of your row, I only have 2...should I rip it out and start the row over?

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Janna Wolfe not sure about that. If it can be fixed (and looks good and not pulling inward) you may be able to remedy it. It really is up to you. The perimeter round at the end does cover a multitude of “issues” and helps tremendously to even out those row ends.

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Depending on how your work is curving you may be adding too many stitches (or too large a hook?) if wavy, or you could be skipping stitches unnecessarily if it is pulling in tight on you. Also, be sure to upsize to a larger hook on the popcorn panels otherwise it will pull in a bit.

    • @BonnieBayCrochet
      @BonnieBayCrochet  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@suevan9544 Generally if stitches are being added, it is because you may be working in the turning chain. If you use the first stitch of the row (which I recommend - some patterns routinely skip the first stitch, but I like to use it) AND work the turning chain, you will add a stitch in each row. I hope this is helpful!

      You need to crochet a sc in the first ch-1 space above the popcorn st 2 rows below, and a popcorn st in the next ch-1 space, which should be in between the popcorns two rows below. Does this make sense?

      Of course, this may vary slightly with the pattern you are working on, and if that is the case, I encourage you to follow the pattern and use this video as secondary.
