I cannot believe it!!! I finally found a pattern I want to make an afgan/blanket from and a teacher who gives me assignments. I kinda feel like I'm back at school 🤣. I absolutely love it. Tyfs God bless you
I have made three of these afghans for gifts, but I sure wish I had had these videos! Each of my afghans was a bit better than the last, but all are beautiful. Watching these videos makes me want to start another one, this time for myself!
Go for it Karen! If you get bored of this pattern, I have several others on my Bonnie Bay Crochet TH-cam channel: th-cam.com/play/PLoIugZBYOS0Udr7tGiPfi-17m6DSeUI02.html
I have yarn bought and set aside and the printed pattern ready for when I finish my current project. My current project seems like child’s play in comparison! This is the most complicated section so far, and you make it all seem easy-the counting, the apparent skipped stitches all make sense.
I so understand Sophie! We had to slug it out on our own in the good old days. I will forever be indebted to my best friend's mom, who patiently answered many crochet pattern questions whenever I would show up on her front porch. Many blessings to you!
a tip for doing the diamond section. sc4, BEFORE you start the treble stitches, put a stitch marker in the stitch you will be sc in after the trebles. I learnt this the hard way, lol the skip 2 between diamonds, I had trouble figuring that out and would come to the end of the row to find out I did not have the right stitch count.
And finally on to Video #4. I got video 3 almost done and it didn't look as nice as yours so I took it all out and did it over. So here we go on number4. The heart of the project. Thank you for explaining this so well. Onward and upward, as they say.
My iPad doesn’t have a description box and I can’t print out any patterns. I am going to try my best by following your beautiful work. Thank you so much for your time I will take my time and I am so glad that I can stop the video as I go. Thank you again.
WOW!! BEST tutorial out there!! Great job... I am just starting that pattern and YOU are going to lead me to a successful finished product!! How do I find the 'heart' section on your tutorials?? Bless you... you do FINE WORK!!
It’s in one of these videos Caroline. You can look it up by checking the row number on the free pattern and referencing that to the videos. I’m away at a conference so not able to do this quickly.
I love working on this pattern. I’m somewhat new to crochet, so can you please explain why I need to use 3 hook sizes? There’s a visible difference on the end of the rows. I don’t want to FROG this, so I’m wondering if it will work itself out when I add the border? You’re a good teacher, easy to understand and follow😊
Thanks Bonnie for this beautiful pattern and tutorials. I seem to be not doing the arrow stitch correctly. My stitch count is way off. I must be leaving to many stitches between. I am off about 30 stitches short. HELP please.
Hi Bonnie when I do the trebles I get this gaping hole after I’ve crocheted all the loops off the hook it’s those first two yarn around the hook and it’s the last two stitches cast off. For some reason the yarn is looser and leaves a hole that is noticeable when you crochet into it on the next round of single crochets. I notice on your crocheting that that gap is not noticeable and it’s very neat. Any help in alleviating that hole? I have tried holding all the threads with my forefinger but alas…to no avail 😐
@@BonnieBayCrochet I finished this afghan but I can't post a picture on your facebook page until I give this gift away🎂🎈😊. It turned out Beautiful! Thanks for your help!
Bonnie, how do you keep edges so straight? Also, I’ve made this blanket with your fabulous tutorials, and have noticed you have what looks like a row of sc prior to starting the crochet edges…can you enlighten on what you do to make the edges easier to pickup the stitches. Thanks loads
Hi Bonnie, I love your channel you are a great teacher,my English is not perfect, but I can understand you perfectly, you speak so clear,I have a question about this tutorial,I would like to do this afghan but in baby version crib size more or less ,so I need to know how many stitches do I need to do, orI need to do a multiples etc, sorry for my English. Thanks 😊
My second set of ridge and arrow stitch came out wrong. Was there supposed to be an extra row of single crochet between sections because the arrow section is thinner than the first and I think I followed the pattern correctly
Made it into a baby blanket, but had to alter things a little! Now a lady I know wants to buy it! Have no clue what to charge! Can you give me an idea?? You know the work that goes into it! Thanks!!!!
That's a hard question to answer because folks don't have a clue as to the number of hours that go into a project like this. I would start by estimating the number of hours it took to complete, decide on a fair wage for your time, add the cost of materials. You'll probably end up with a number too high for your friend! I don't sell baby blankets personally for this very reason - I can never recoup my time - but I do give many away to friends, and I love doing this!
BonnieBayCrochet how long does this blanket take you to make I'm doing it at the moment but as a new croheter iv not done most Stitch's so is defo going to take me longer but I'm soo enjoying it very well worked Hun thankyou
First, I’d like to say thank you! These videos are great and the throw is beautiful. I am a beginner, but so far it’s turning out pretty good. I’m confused after the first section of popcorns though. The third video jumps to the diamond pattern and I’m not sure how to do the arrows from where the second video left off. I get to repeat the pattern of row 2-9 but after referring to the pattern link it leaves me with doing the slip stitch on the front side of the throw and with the first arrow pattern it was on the backside. Will this make a difference??
You must first work 2 rows of the Low Front Ridge - slip st with the front side facing, than a row of sc in the remaining loop with the back side facing you. After this you should have the front side facing you for the arrow stitch.
Hi Bonnie, thank you so much for making this pattern. I've got a problem though - at 8:31, you say to Fptr around 3rd sc 3 rows below, but in the pattern it says to Fptr around 2nd sc 3 rows below. Which one is it supposed to be, the 3rd sc or the 2nd?
This is a current crochet along here and on my facebook page: facebook.com/search/top/?q=aran%20hearts%20throw VIDEOS #4 & 5 that contain the central popcorn hearts motif will be released this coming Wednesday, February 15th at 7:00 am.
I only use Susan Bates crochet hooks. I sometimes use the ones with the bamboo handle, but these too are the Susan Bates hooks. These are simply the best, and a very economical choice as well...and no one is paying me to say this!
Hi Bonnie ...Help! I have completed the top of the first Diamond Pattern, having all stitches needed and correct stitch count.I have completed the three rows of sc and about to begin the bottom of the next diamond pattern as per the first diamond which says to sc in the first stitch and treble in the fourth stitch three rows below. In the first bottom diamond you show how to cou t across to get the fourth stitch to treble into. When I get to do the bottom of the second diamond, if I count as per the first one It doesn’t align I.e I have to treble into the 5th stitch instead of the fourth. I unerdstand your instruction that I should align them but I am not sure what happened between the last diamond and the beginning of this one if everything was correct and how, if I follow what I need to how on earth I am going to match it to the other side. It appears the diamonds are closer to the left edge than it is to the right, however given that I had the correct stitches at the end of the first diamond pattern that I assume this is correct?
As far as lining up the trebles, always work right above the trebles already worked from the previous treble row. As far as comparing how the diamonds aline on each end, please don't be too worried about this. After completing the body of the throw you will be working a perimeter round and then the finishing edging which will even things out. Once completed you will not be able to notice any differences. If I haven't answered your question in a satisfactory way, you can always contact me at bonniebay@me.com and perhaps even include photos of the work in question and I can better help you. Wishing you the very best!
Thanks Bonnie, I still a, unsure how it happened since I matched everything on the video up to this spot 😔 (yes I had to pull apart lots and I am a bit cack handed when I crotchet but I did find the perfect way to do popcorns albeit rather unusual LOL) The question that I have is if I have to treble into the 5th sc instead of the 4th do I still only do one sc at the beginning of the row ..and one the top of the diamond you say to do 3sc, will this still be correct? Otherwise I may have to jot down what I am doing to line up the other side. Thanks so much for your help... I don’t want to give up now!
At this point, I would opt for what looks the best. You are skipping 4 sc in between where you are placing the trebles, correct? It's hard for me to give much more advice without seeing an example.
Hi Bonnie, sorry to confuse, yes there are still 4 sc in between i.e the pattern is still correct. Its only the beginning of the row that I am questioning. The bottom part of the diamond you say to sc in the first stitch then treble in the 4th stitch from three rows below (counting the end stitch, which I did on the first one). But to line up the pattern on the second repeat, if I have to treble into the 5th stitch three rows below to start, do I still need only to do one sc at the beginning of the row, or should I do 2sc? the same as the top of the diamond row, you say to do 3sc but because it is one stitch out, do I do 4sc or leave it as 3? I can see what looks best, but seeing as I find it difficult to follow a written pattern, I am not sure if it will affect things if I add another sc at the beginning.
It would really serve me best to have a photo of the issue. I believe I did vary just a bit from the written pattern in this section if I am remembering correctly. I would follow the video rather than the written pattern because of this.
Bonnie, I don't care how many times I unravel my work, I can never get the right count and the stitch is always off, I count and when I count 182, I think, good that's the right count, and it still gets off, I don't know what I am doing wrong, I'm at the diamond pattern and I've taken it out I can't even tell you how many times, I originally bought the pattern on line, then I saw you had a video on it, so I've been following that and still no luck. I'm the most patient person in the world, but now I'm ready to jump out my window lol, thanks in advance for any help you can give me, I hope you check this site
I'm so sorry you are having trouble with this. Did you buy the pattern on line or download the free one from Red Heart Yarns? I really need to know if someone is selling this because that is more than illegal, and I want to shut this down immediately. I would follow the video as primary should there be any discrepancies with the written pattern. That is one reason I produced the videos - to clarify any issues. I would really need a visual to see what may be happening in the diamond stitch. You can always contact me at bonniebay@me.com (this INFORMATION is also in the video descriptions).
I completed 1 set of diamonds now that I'm starting the bottom half of the second row I'm having an issue .when repeating row 36 if I work in the 4th one over from the start it offsets everything I worked a few and it just didn't look right but if I work the 5th from the start like I would the rest it looks right .did I do something wrong on previous rows if it's like that ? What should I do
This is a tricky stitch Savannah. I would encourage you to skip fewer more stitches in order to make the diamonds look even. This should not need to be adjusted more than one stitch either way and should not throw off the stitch count going forward.
@@BonnieBayCrochet thank you for the quick reply and ok ya it seems like it was just that one extra stitch to skip and even everything out but I wasnt sure if that would affect stitch count .I feel alot better about going forward thank you again and for your tutorials they are so helpful
@@pennysilver9906 however many multiples of 3 look good to you....perhaps 12 rows? You may need to work a couple rows of sc to get to the front side facing for the next rows and to reduce the wave of the row.
HI Bonnie, I've started on this beautiful blanket and ran into a problem. At the end of the diamond row I'm ending with the last front post treble crochet pointing down to the left instead of the last one pointing down to the right😳 help please. Do I need to back track a few rows? How many stitches should I have before starting the diamond row?🤔😣
The stitch count should remain the same throughout this project. I would need a photo of the problem area to be of any help. These rows do alternate when forming the diamonds. You can always go back and double check that you have the proper stitch count and that you haven't skipped any stitches unnecessarily. Hope this works out for you! This stitch is challenging.
My goodness I wasn't expecting to hear back from you right away😮 thank you for that.😊 I not sure how I can post a picture of my progress so I'll try to go on further and see it it works out. If it doesn't I'll find a way to send you a picture. Thank you again
I ripped back to the row with two sc in each stitch. My st count was off way back there. 😕 I'm keeping better track of my count now.😳 I love this pattern. Thank you so much for your videos❣
Personally, not for under $500. Even at that price it is a steal of a deal when considering all the time to crochet this. (Approx. 40 hours, which is still less per hour than fast food workers make here.) I know many sell for less on Etsy, but that I their choice. In the past I used to sell at craft shows, but had to stop because other crafters (yes, crocheters) undervalued their work and drove the selling prices lower than what I could by materials.
If you can send me a photo to bonniebay@me.com I can possibly see what happened and try to be helpful. I suspect you may have accidentally skipped stitches along the row, which is easy to do.
If you can tell me which stitch you are on, you may need to review how you are forming it. Is this by chance the cable stitch? If so, you may be skipping too many stitches as you make each new cable.
@@BonnieBayCrochet first of thanks for replying 😊 secondly I was on demand pattern but I managed to work it out😊 thanks again, this is my first ever crochet blanket, love this pattern 😍
BonnieBayCrochet I was referred the existing skipped stitches. The two skipped stitches are covered because of the tr and seems to now be in previous row as height is different because we crocheted on each side of them so when we sc all in row 37 the missing are lower. I’m about ready to frog this entire thing after all this work.😱 I mean, it doesn’t get any simpler than sc or dc an entire row, but when I got to where the skipped stitches are, they’re underneath - in order to include those skipped stitches, I have to go down a row and sc over the tr made in row 36. Doesn’t make sense. So, when creating the tr stitches it does create (seeming to replace those two skipped stitches. No problem. I did all that and came out with correct stitch count. However, by doing that, the EXISTING skipped stitches are technically still there (underneath) obviously because I didn’t sc directly into them but the two above them that were created by the two trebles in order to create the diamond. That’s what I was referring to in my original question. Hope this makes sense. Your video did not show/explain this. Sorry.
canuck33 You should not work those skipped stitches on Row 37. You just SC evenly across the row. The trebles in the previous row take the place of the 2 skipped sc.
@@BonnieBayCrochet thanks Bonnie. I missed a couple of stitches and undid a couple of rows. All good now! Your tutorials are wonderful as I struggled reading the patterns.
30 diamonds is correct. If you are connecting the treble crochets in the sc of the previous trebles 4 rows below, the diamonds shouldn't be crooked. You are welcome to send me a photo of the area of concern to bonniebay@me.com to see whether I can help further.
Hi Bonnie: I am having an issue on row 44. The first half of the diamond. Back on the first row of the diamond we skipped 4 stitches and did our treble stitch. Now I am on row 44 and if I skip only 4 stitches, it doesn't line up with the other dialmond. I have to go over and treble in the 5th stitch. Am I doing this right? I am going to wait to move on until I hear from you. I want to do it right So I will look forward to your response.
To best serve you and answer your question, I will need a photo of the problem area. However, if you have already completed the first diamond (through Rows 40), I would use that as a guide as to where to place the treble crochets, and that would be just above the trebles 3 rows below.
BonnieBayCrochet thank you. I will do the fifth one because if I skip 4 it doesn't line up with the diamond below. That is because we are working in the diamond at the end of the previous diamond and that was to skip 4 and treable in the 5th stitch. I am thinking the end of the row will be different too.
I think the problem lies in counting the last sc from row 32 as the first sc of row 33. I'm having this same issue where my diamonds aren't lining up. Edit: Correction, I mean counting the beginning ch1 in row 33 as the first sc. I feel that's what me and Jackie have done. It became apparent in row 44 when the diamond wouldn't match up (since we skipped 3 sc in row 33 as opposed to 4).
That will do it. I personally don't like to count the turning chains as another type of stitch. I didn't learn to crochet that way decades ago and think this can be confusing to new crocheters. Many patterns are written with the assumption that chains are counted as stitches and therein lies the issue. Sorry this was a snare to both of you!
You are very very talented when it comes to crocheting. You have some of the best tutorials out there but do you have sinus problems because it always sounds like you have a cold or can't breathe out of your nose which makes it hard for me to listen to. I always wanna say, "Please blow your nose"

I really thought I purchased it, but I cannot find a receipt...if I do, I will let you know
I completed 1 set of diamonds now that I'm starting the bottom half of the second row I'm having an issue .when repeating row 36 if I work in the 4th one over from the start it offsets everything I worked a few and it just didn't look right but if I work the 5th from the start like I would the rest it looks right .did I do something wrong on previous rows if it's like that ? What should I do
This is a tricky stitch Savannah. I would encourage you to skip fewer more stitches in order to make the diamonds look even. This should not need to be adjusted more than one stitch either way and should not throw off the stitch count going forward.
@@BonnieBayCrochet thank you for the quick reply and ok ya it seems like it was just that one extra stitch to skip and even everything out but I wasnt sure if that would affect stitch count .I feel alot better about going forward thank you again and for your tutorials they are so helpful
If i want to make it bigger how many chain would i need
You can add multiples of 12 to the existing starting chain to add length, but will need to add extra rows to the panels and adjust the heart section.
I am not feeling succesful with the diamond stitch. The treble stitches are uneven. Is there a substitute stitch that can be done instead?
You can always try the basketweave stitch. Here's a video: th-cam.com/video/6dbofr97KDs/w-d-xo.html
Thank you Bonnie for your reply. I will try your suggestion! Much appreciated!
THANK YOU!! The basket weave looks great. How many rows should I crochet?
@@pennysilver9906 however many multiples of 3 look good to you....perhaps 12 rows? You may need to work a couple rows of sc to get to the front side facing for the next rows and to reduce the wave of the row.
I have tried the diamond section with problems. My sc rows end up going stitches. Please help!!
Katherine Wright you may need to be sure you are skipping two stitches behind the trebles when working these rows.
HEEL GOEDE UITLEG VOOR HET PATROON ,NU EENTOEPASSING ZOEKEN BEDANKT
Hi Bonnie, how much will you sell a blanket similar to this pattern?
Personally, not for under $500. Even at that price it is a steal of a deal when considering all the time to crochet this. (Approx. 40 hours, which is still less per hour than fast food workers make here.) I know many sell for less on Etsy, but that I their choice. In the past I used to sell at craft shows, but had to stop because other crafters (yes, crocheters) undervalued their work and drove the selling prices lower than what I could by materials.
@@BonnieBayCrochet thank you!!!!
👍👍👍
I have a big problem....i am like 8 to 10 stiches short when i get to the next set of arrows after the first set of puffs...what do i do
If you can send me a photo to bonniebay@me.com I can possibly see what happened and try to be helpful. I suspect you may have accidentally skipped stitches along the row, which is easy to do.
I disnt take a picture, i got upset at myself and frogged it till the end of the firstcarrows....uggggggg...thnx for the reply
Amanda Granger so sorry! I was doing some of that myself while working out a new design. It is a common affliction!
Hi one question on this pattern my chains gone less it should be 182 but there are 165 , I have no idea why it's happening? Help me please 😊
@@AKHAN-po4ru So glad you were able to work it out!
Confused....so beginning with Row 37 sc in each “stitch” across.....the actual 2 skipped stitches are always left skipped ......
Yes, sc in each stitch across. You won't be skipping any stitches as you did when working the row with the treble crochets.
Hi Bonnie, is the stitch count 182 thru out?
It should remain the same unless otherwise stated.
@@BonnieBayCrochet thanks Bonnie. I missed a couple of stitches and undid a couple of rows. All good now! Your tutorials are wonderful as I struggled reading the patterns.
@@agentorange5711 So glad this is working better now!😊❤️
How many diamonds across? I have 30 and it’s crooked
30 diamonds is correct. If you are connecting the treble crochets in the sc of the previous trebles 4 rows below, the diamonds shouldn't be crooked. You are welcome to send me a photo of the area of concern to bonniebay@me.com to see whether I can help further.
I just emailed you. The diamonds aren't crooked, the blanket itself
Also, thank you for these videos, I am a visual learner and this helped me make it through the pattern.
Follow your instincts Jackie! I hope this works out for you. Blessings...
Loooooove iT!!
I don't understand
If you have a specific question I'll be glad to try to help as best as I can.

You are very very talented when it comes to crocheting. You have some of the best tutorials out there but do you have sinus problems because it always sounds like you have a cold or can't breathe out of your nose which makes it hard for me to listen to. I always wanna say, "Please blow your nose"
