The R'ongovians pretty much laid out how to speak with them when he met Pike by saying empathy was their hallmark and few understood that. Pike's initial response about listening to each voice might have given him a little more leeway with the R'ongovian captain since that idea would lend to empathy. Seeing Spock and T'pring up front with Pike was a relief. Too many body swap eps out there where the ones involved keep it to themselves. Overall, probably one of the better episodes so far!

They don't just hand responsibility to new recruit who never learned discipline or how to do their job. ... Also, major problem with this scene is the same problem as many scenes... I can see why this has appeal in the dystopia of doom and gloom. But that doesn't make it good. It means our society is obsessed with darkness and negativity
This felt very off format. It was like a mediocre episode of madmen on AMC. It dips into character movements and location, here and there. And at end of show fades to black with credits and music. This was episode 5. A respite. A short period of rest between something that's going to be more important.

After the shot of Spock and TPring in bed, it fades to black. Then you have end credits and a typical song. That you find at the end of CW tv shows. I have no problem with that. But that's not a typical format of a startrek show. You have people that hate this show , because they feel the writing is Taylored toward a teenage audience. The flirty, silly stuff in this episode. The juvenile dialogue, The talking about feelings in a coffee shop scenes. Soap opera "young in the restless " type of stuff. This is written for a wider causal audience, rather than a "startrek" fan. And that's one of the reasons why some fans hate this, besides the canon violations. I watch it and just judge it on If I was entertained by it or not. I am not that hardcore of a mind set.
