  • The Titanic was a British passenger liner that sank in the North Atlantic Ocean on April 15, 1912, after colliding with an iceberg during her maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New Your City. There were 1,514 people that drowned in one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history. "The Unsinkable Titanic" sunk and today the story lives on in fans of those who love this great ship and it's history.
I have Titanic, Olympic, Queen Mary, Ocean Liner, and other interesting Historical documentaries. It is a passion of mine to share the amazing Titanic story for the generations to come. Thank you watching my films and please Subscribe, Like, and Comment. Blessings, Mark.

A gripping documentary with a nice combination of technical detail about Titanic, accounts from survivors, and pleasing narration. There are some details that I am aware of that didn't make it into this documentary, such as that the Californian switched off their wireless as a response to being rebuked by the Titanic wireless operator, and that a last minute personnel change left the keys to a cabinet where the binoculars were located missing. The lookouts therefore were on watch without them.
I suppose that what possibly makes this story so captivating is the sharp contrast between the luxury and elegance as the voyage begins, and the stark reality of its ending. While there is a correlation between the percentages of survivors between the classes, money and wealth was no guarantee.
It's not necessary that every documentary have every last piece of information in order to tell the story. I watched and enjoyed this from beginning to end.

When I was 17 my Dad gave me an original printing of "Futility: Wreck of the Titan" to add to my collection of Titanic books. Still a precious object to me.

Adults made their own choices when most thought they were safer on the ship & decided not to get into lifeboats. Most of those went away less than half full, when it was said, that these lifeboats held 60 grown men. One of those early lifeboats only had 12 people...but they wouldn't allow the dogs...it's absolutely heartbreaking. If you think about it, allowing dogs could have benifitted the survivors and dogs alike. How many stories have we heard about dogs keeping people from freezing to death. The survivors in the boats could have snuggled the dogs to keep warm. 😢🐶

The silence during the ending credits roll against the painting of the ships final moments was erie, almost "deafening" and quite appropriate. Most documentaries and movies play some kind of back drop music/tune.... Even after all these years (29 in 2022), I think it still one of the best general documentaries on the disaster. I love and treasure the interview clips from Eva Hart, the last "surviving" witness of the sinking who could actually remember it. How truly remarkable! What poetic justice and satisfaction to finally be proven right/correct about something witnessed some 74 years earlier with so many others telling you that you were "wrong" despite most of them not being there to witness what you saw, experienced, and lived through and have had to ever since. This has got to be one of the greatest and most infuriating frustrations i can think of within the realm of human experience...

@@tyrariley7013 That's right. I am thinking if captain Smith didn't suffer from depression.
It was his decision to steered into the iceberg.
He was 62, it was his last voyage, people were saying that when they struck iceberg he was ineffective and inactive
in preventing the loss of life. Wonder if his family was asked about his mental health. Men take it very hard
to finish job when it gives them proud, power and money. He loved to be on sea.
It was his decision to reduce lifeboats to 16.

This was a very good presentation. However, the Titanic exceeded the number of lifeboats required at the time. After the Titanic disaster the maritime regulations changed. No mention is made of a possible fire on board in the coal bins which may have weakened that side of the ship that the iceberg hit.

You can never be confident in your ability to outsmart mother nature; safety can NEVER take a backseat.
In hindsight- Titanic would've been better off hitting the iceberg head on. By trying to avoid it all-together; they allowed for the concrete ice underneath the oceans surface to scrape alongside the bottom of the ship- creating a "zipper-like" effect, which is ultimately what sunk it. There were so many warnings even before this happened- all the ice warnings that were ignored, speeding up the ship when it wasn't necessary- especially when traveling through icy waters at night, etc. Such a tragic event that led to so many lives lost, but a valuable lesson to be learned indeed.

    • @granitesevan6243
      @granitesevan6243 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@FatalPies fair point about the collision impact on the passengers, but the ship wouldn't have sunk, even if the bow was decimated. It had watertight bulkheads that compartmentalised any inrushing water. 4 contiguous compartments could be breached and filled, but not a fifth, which is what happened.
The problem is that it is counter-intuitive to do anything other than try and swerve the obstacle. After that, it would take a while to realise how much trouble they were in. Hindsight certainly is a luxury.

Here's why the Titanic's story will just never die: (1) she was the world's biggest movable man-made object of her day, (2) she excelled in luxury, (3) she was on her maiden voyage (of all voyages), (4) there were many celebrities of the day on board, (5) there was already a lot of talk about all her features before she was ever launched (including the whole "unsinkability" talk), (6) she was the world's newest ocean liner of her time and (7) the Titanic is the first or maybe the only ship thus far in living memory to be sunk by an iceberg. It seems the Titanic will always be in our minds despite herself; unlike the ship itself, the story remains unsinkable
