Shabani is such a loving Dad. I love watching him play with his kids and its funny how he teases Nene and Ai so they will chase him. I would give anything to see them in person. I am now in love with Gorillas and especially this family. Thanks for posting all of these awesome videos.

I read that when the moms reject or ignore their own kids, the father or the leader of the group cares for the little one. Since the mom won’t groom or give them attention, the father will.
There is a BBC documentary of gorillas in the wild where the mother abandoned her baby to go to another group and the silverback took over the rearing of his baby daughter. When it was cold he would also allow baby to cuddle it was amazing

I think In a wild, siverback is on Duty to protect flock from surroundings, so he cannot be childish to play gorilla kids, but in Zoo, siverback does not have that duty so he has plenty of free time and can play with his kids! ;-)
I also think his wife Nene is busy taking care of Kiyomasa, and Ai is also too young to satisfact Shabani's pride, so Shabani wants more attention, so that is why he is mean to Nene sometimes and loves chased by Nene.."-)

Gracelove, thank you so much for this information. I must admit i saw many videos where i saw Shabani being rough with Nene and Sweet Kiyomasa running after at times, crying, screaming pulling Nene away in fear Shabani will hurt her. I thought he was a bully and unkind. Then i saw more where he was like a child, wanting to play and not being mean, but knows Nene cannot resist chasing him when he teases her so he keeps on going for attention and something to do. Kiyomasa is a sweet little boy and gets very upset to see his mommy upset and gives harsh looks to Shabani at times and wants to protect mommy, but he is helpless. Shabani, i see in this video, does crave closeness and affection but I think as Annie loves daddy,she is fearful too. I was worried about Annie, I asked owner of this page, "does Annie have anyone to cuddle with at night, while sleeping?" I was told Annie sleeps with Al or Shabani. That is so sweet to hear she is not alone. She is just a little girl who had it rough. No doubt she would have loved Al to be the doting mother Nene is to Kyomasa, but she is strong and has a lot of love from Kiyomasa now. I love hearing "behind the scenes" information on this Troop. I follow many Troops Worldwide and this is one of my favorites. Im in the USA, This Zoo, Prague in CZ, is top two I follow. I just adore these Magnificent Souls. They fascinate me. Yes, Kiyomasa always pull Nene back from Shabani when he teases her and she got up set. Kiyomasa worry about her mom and he has such a deep sympathy.."-)

Ai was so young when she had Annie, and also it was first born, so she is now learning to have relationship with little one. helps take care Ai too. If Nene did not have Kiyomasa, she would help Annie...but then now Kiyomasa became one who make way to Annie come back to her family and loves her! such a beautiful story!💖

Gorillas seem like wonderful fathers. I saw this other documentary on YT about a male gorilla whose mate ran off with another silverback. The ither male tried to kill his 1 year old girl and he stopped it and became mister gorilla mom to his daughter. They have this protector instinct that is so loving and endearing.

Dad and daughter day. Shabani has groomed and protected Annie from an early age. As far as I know, Annie is the only one groomed by Shabani, right? Nice that he still does it. Especially great, at the end of the video as he plays with her. The only difference is that now Kiyomasa guard stands and takes care of his Annie. Thanks for these rare shots, very interresting.
Shabani likes to kiss both Annie and Kiyomasa, he sometimes put kiyomasa's feet or hands to his mouth(no bite), but both Annie and Kiyomasa looks annoyed by their father..*laugh*' :-)

I think In a wild, Silver back is busy on Duty of protect flock from surroundings, so they cannot play with childrens of gorilla, but since Shabani does not have that duty so much(Zoo is already protected), so he can play..'-)
I am happy Shabani accept Annie. If leader of flock does not accept her , she was not able to come back to flock(family)
and yes, Kiyomasa made a way to come her back her family.. I am so glad that Annie had Kiyomasa since Ai was too young to be a mother..Precious Kiyomasa💖

That's true. Shabani and his brother Haoko are very nice to their children and play a lot with them. It is a great success for Japan and the zoo that he could reintegrate Annie into the family and enable her to have a life among her peers. I have seen the reintegration in a video, very beautiful, interesting and admirable. The Shabani family is really wonderful and I am always looking forward to new videos. Greetings from Germany☺
I believe that Shabani is also the half brother of females Kijivu and Shinda in Prague Zoo, CZ. They have the same father, Kibabu. But, Shabani got the good looks! I do see they have same eyes.

Thank you so much for your answer. I think we all share a passion for nature and animals. And yes, since childhood I have respected animals because of God's creatures and have a heart and a soul like us. So we're the same ... we live! I've been watching these videos for a long time about a lot of animals. Gorillas have fascinated me for a long time, as a small child I did not have a doll but a gorilla toy. I just love the animals from Japan Shabani and Haokos family, Momotaro (the first son of Momoko) and the chimpanzee family of Ryu / Kazumi and also from the Tama Zoo Kenta / Fubuki family and not forgetting the Tama Orangutans Gypsy (unfortunately dead) Jurry and so on. It's so beautiful that we can talk across borders and learn new things about the animals. And I thank you for your explanations and thoughts. That's good to know how similar we are. Many ❤greetings to Japan.
Daniela T., Same here. Little Momoka is such a cute little girl! I love watch her as a baby because she looks so much like her daddy with those big eyes but she was the cutest little Gorilla Girl! When her older sister kidnapped her from mommy because she just adores her so much is precious. I watch them on a youtube channel named - "Cute Animal Channel" Have you ever seen these videos? I LOVE watching them. Momoka had such an innocent and sweet little face and her and older sister are so sweet and loving. I still go on this channel and will view older videos of her from 6-8 months old and it just makes my day. I am fascinated and adore Gorillas!! They are my passion. Im in the USA and the Troop closest to me is on the East Coast, Philadelphia Zoo. Silverback Motuba is a gentle and sweet soul and females Kira and Honey have had babies and that makes them more fun to watch. Going there Wednesday! Cannot wait to see them. Shabani really loves annie, I've seen how he defends her from nene, just saw the video where they were in the enclosure and nene started attacking annie, for what reason I dont know, and shabani came to defend her, you saw AI trying to stop him, but was interesting to see was how Annie was also defending her dad, I'm surprised tho nene son kyo didn't come to her defense right away the way AI did, but I also know Kyo has a soft heart for Annie, but he and AI did check to make sure nene was ok.
He knows she is his daughter...and he will protect her...coz every father always sweet to his daughter
He is just MASSIVE! And he doesn't even have to lift weights. It's amazing.
These dad gorillas need to get a job. Such vast unhappiness here. Dads entire entertainment and interests is in stalking and dominating his kids. They try hard to get away and look so depressed and tired. He won't even allow them to sleep. (get them their own sleeping cages please). When I see videos of gorillas in the wild, there is complete contentment, with the younguns climbing on the parents backs and the parents have their attention properly diverted to their environment. These are much too intelligent creatures to put in these prisons.

Not sure where the mother/other females are, but this is not a normal situation. Most silverbacks have little to do with their offspring other than protection.

Actually not true. There’s a video on YT about a wild gorilla family and the mother abandoned the daughter and the silverback raises her. Even though the mothers do take care of the children up until 5 yrs old the father still plays with the children and takes care of them.

Poor young ones. Afraid of silverback. Most silverbacks start messing with off spring once they've weaned off from mom or even before.
Momotaro started inappropriately messing with Kintaro when Kintaro was not even a year old. A few months back ,Momo was doing his teenage son and Kinny and their mother who was in estrous.
Taiwan silverback also started getting his son Jabali at young age. I stopped watching that family because the last baby male, Jabali's little brother was my favorite and I couldn't watch it happening to him, actually I couldn't watch it happening to any of them.
Poor gorillas are captive. Normally the silverback has a harem of females to mess with, unfortunately locked up and captive they start with their offspring. Sad, so sad. They belong in the wild.

yrs ago at the Toledo zoo the male gorilla kept goosing the female when she came inside the cage, he would hide right by the door, she'd turn around and slap him, he did this several times and I guess she got tired of it so the last time he did it she crapped on his hand. He sat there and just kept staring at it for a couple minutes and started shaking it off his hands............another time at the Tacoma zoo these people kept tormenting this young gorilla I told them they better stop but of course who am I that they were gonna listen too. I grabbed my husband and told him he needed to move far away from them, I had to explain why and sure enough I was right. He reached behind him and pooped in his hand and then threw it at them. the one girl turned around just in time and got it the middle of her back. I died laughing. I told them see what did I tell you, it's what you get for teasing him.

Teresa Gary in my opinion shabani is showing sexually interest in Annie. Ive noticed it in other videos as well.Some of it is play and grooming.
@@jackib1344 That is not sexual interest, Shabani has mated a number of times while he has been filmed and it is totally different to his behaviour here with Annie.
There is no foreplay or fondling involved, both gorillas position themselves and the siverback does his job. It is over very quickly, within a few minutes usually and they go their separate ways without further ado and this is how it happens every time I've seen gorillas mating.
The way he was playing with Annie is exactly the way he plays with his son Kiyomasa, don't be misled by the open mouth and the nibbling, it is just something they all do. These innocent creatures have no concept of lust.
