Dad Shabani was very protective and reassuring to little Annie. It was so sweet how daddy was grooming his little girl and giving her affection and love. Mommy, Al does love her little girl, Annie. Maybe at times they play rougher then humans and maybe Al was not expecting little Annie to hang on to the rails that hard so she could get her on the grass to play. Think it was not meant to hurt Annie, just misunderstanding on moms intentions. Annie bounces back quickly. She is strong in mind and spirit. She is loved by the troop and gets much cuddle and affection from others, especially big brother Kiyomasa. :-)
Shabani is a VERY special individual. I have not seen this behavior in any of the other male gorillas. I would have to say that Shabani, Genki and Nene possess dedicated parenting skills.
I think Ai was too young to be a mother when Annie was born, but a few years after that she I guess she finally started understanding how to be one. So they started getting along like you see here. It's crazy to imagine Annie as she is now having a kid, because that's almost what it was with Ai when she was 10. Annie is 9. I feel like she has another few years before Annie is ready to be a mother. So I don't blame Ai for what happened. just happy that the zoo staff made it work, and that it worked much better than expected, with even Nene coming around a bit after a while.... a little bit.
I think would have gotten a smack from dad if he had gotten to her. Ai looks sorry and is paying Annie attention, as she keeps an eye on where Shabani is. Annie is very forgiving
If Shabani were human, he would be a national treasure. Not only does he look like a model but he is amazing as a dad and his personality is about as good as a personality can get. It's honestly crazy Shabani even exists when you really get to know him and his family through these videos.
Naomi Jafiya--- Ai is her mom. But she was born cesarean section. So Ai wasn't awake and doesn't know Annie is her daughter. Annie was hand-raised by the keepers then introduce back to the family about the time she was 1 years old. Kiyomasa was born naturally and raised by Nene and the family. It doesn't explain fully Ai and Nene but it's the reason for the dynamics of the females being a little cold at times.
@Ana Arteaga your correct I saw the documentary in Japanese. AI has no maternal instinct sometimes I feel they took too long to reintroduce Annie back to the family
Ai doesn’t have motherly instincts. I read that the baby girl was raised by humans when she was a baby because the mother wasn’t taking care of her. Unfortunately not everyone is ready to be a mother

人工保育で育てるとうまく群れに入れないことやアイは少し大きくなったアニーが初めてみる子供の姿でもあるから自分の子供だとわかりきってないってこともある
