Kia ora everyone, I hope you enjoy this catch and cook from the hook to the cook video. I have been thinking seriously lately about starting up a Patreon page where a koha is given to help me get out there more often and do the videos that you guys want to see. This will also enable me to purchase/ upgrade my gear to bring you better quality videos. And also to feed the family and pay some bills. I know that some of you are like me and find it hard to give to something like this, that is why I'm putting the question to you. TH-cam should stay a free video watching site and i will post up there but not as often as to Patreon. Let me know in the comments below what you guys, especially the loyal subscribers that have stuck by, commented and enjoyed my videos think. Nga mihi ki a koutou katoa. Mike

Weka Digital Media NZ I'm not sure what Patreon is, but I would gladly contribute in some way to help you continue making videos. You're one of the very few TH-cam accounts I follow and you're definitely my favorite, and I would be happy to support you 😊

Thanks Nicola, really appreciate that!. Patreon (/ˈpeɪtriɒn/) is a membership platform that provides business tools for creators to run a subscription content service, as well as ways for artists to build relationships and provide exclusive experiences to their subscribers, or "patrons." I have used Patreon successfully in the past - and, to be honest, you have a lot of other great ways you can support the channel (gearbest and banggood will send you stuff for free, for example). Happy to talk more. And hello from Wellington!

This video i still love to watch no mater what. Seriously bro. I cant stop watching your old videos... its just awsome. I find fishing not more of the fish only but... just to get out there get to meet people and enjoy the company of others, stress free hahaha... enjoying the atmosphere getting out there with the family away from gadgets or tv or gaming. When you can enjoy outdoors more better to be at home wasting the power hahaha. Its a great medicine. I dont know about anyone but thats how i feel when i go fishing hehe.

Kia ora bro. Really great full for your videos. Thanks to you me and my family now have a BOP mouth we can finally slay at.
Coming from the Waikato I moved to Tauranga looking for a good spot to catch Kahawai. We’ve always spent holidays and weekends in Marokopa on the west coast. Now we have a new one at the camp.
Saw your last video you did here so had to give it a go Easter weekend, sure enough, heaps of fish. Camped there the weekend after awesome spot, safe as heaps of fish.
Also in Whakatane harbour after watching your video had to give it go. Didn’t disappoint scored a nice snapper and two Kahawai.
Just have to get your recipes locked down because your smoked fish is the bomb. Awesome work bro Keep it up

Nice video mate. I’ve tried cooking our version of Kahawai... the Aussie Salmon, heaps of different ways and it always tastes like shite... not sure if your species is a little different to ours. I usually save the smoking for trout. I brought home some Manuka and Pohutukawa chips from my last visit, but I found I like hickory the best. Do you cook the kahawai any other ways? I might have to try one next time I’m in NZ (I try to get over a couple of times a year... love the place and the friendliness of the people.). My missus reckons everything in NZ is just that little bit better!! Went snorkeling last time and got a feed of NZ oysters and Kina... bloody sensational!! Keep up the vids mate 👍

They are the same fish. If you don't like eating fish that has a more pronounced/stronger fish flavor it's probably not the fish for you. I love eating pretty much all fish and some of my in laws will only eat flathead, whiting, snapper, etc. Pretty much fish that have a real neutral, whiter flesh flavor.

Set up the Patrean Account Mike, you're good enough for it. Keep up the Great Vids.

Not smoked stuff before - does the smokey flavor come through nicely with three bits like that? Also - where can I email you?? Kia ora!

I had a handful of chips, I kept adding a few at a time so there was always smoke. Hickory is not as harsh as pohutukawa or even manuka. You can contact me via my facebook page, I reply to everyone there. Kia ora back :)

It was way over an hour, felt like a week haha. My last cast( not in the vid) I hooked onto something really big but couldn't land it. I think maybe a stingray or a kahawai wrapped around a submerged log, but was hoping for something else.
