- Join me on an exciting fishing adventure as I head to the stunning Motu river mouth in search of big kahawai! Watch as I cast lures into the crystal-clear waters, battling these fat Kahis.
I manage to land some solid ones, the adventure doesn't end there. Follow along as I take these fresh catches to a serene spot next to the river, where I fillet the fish and transform them into mouthwatering sashimi.
Prepare to be amazed by the beauty of nature and the joy of catching, preparing, and enjoying fresh seafood straight from the ocean to the plate. Don't miss out on this unforgettable fishing and culinary experience!

Nearly 50 years ago I fished there with my extended family, an older fiserman showed us all up, he was catching fish literally at his feet near where you had your bag at the start, up the river, I think I only caught two.
You remind me of the priest of the convert in this 1 bro. Nice 1 and that peice off steel is the best lure for running kahawai even gurnard if you run it low. Chur nice 1

@@MuddyFeet Another great thing that makes them even better is once you fillet and skin pat and wipe with paper towel until almost jelly like transparent give it a try bro you will be surprised .
Used to fish here all the time when growing up but that first fish was tiny bro we have caught metre kahawai at the mouth huge

It is a Salmon (if you’re Australian!)!. Caught a heap of schtonkers in southern NSW just before Easter. Massive fish up to at least 6kgs that pulled like trains. Such a cool fish…great video mate!

Nice bro 💯 have ya ever tried a microjig from shore instead of the ol' hex?
Nah but it'd definitely be effective in some places

I'm not sure sry bro its not written on it but it's a pretty solid one.

Bro mean maori place aye da mighty motu,da motu kahawai are well known to throw your hook alot ive fished there many of times n itz primo mean👍 maor
Yeah it sure is a beautiful place eh
What rod and reel were you using?
A 12 foot shimano surfcaster and a catch softbait reel
you from the motu bro.. what day of the week is shut to everyone?
No I'm not from the Motu but the locals let me know the details and when not to fish.
Hey bro. Long time viewer. Fyi you are not meant to process your ika on the motu. This is apart of the tikanga and homage to the motu and the local iwi who are the kaitiaki of the motu. We fished there and made sure to understand the kaupapa before fishing in the wahi. Chur SH35
But you need to bleed them straight away?
As long as Tangaroa is happy and you have asked for his blessing it should be ok, Same with Tane Mahuta. The Motu is owned by Tangaroa correct ?. When does Iwi come before the blessing of a god ?
@@mpf_agundipsht3619 should be ok
Sad to say but you are correct, even though you took your catch away from the river mouth and a couple of KMs down the Rd to the bridge...it's still the same river. Fortunately for you bro I see you are passionate about the whenua and moana demonstrated by picking up somebody else's trash and returning your first catch (which we refer to in maraenui as your "licence") so I believe this to be not an act of ignorance but simply 1 of not knowing.
I think the nephews spun a yarn and gave you a shit spinner and not the homemade slayers we usually use 😂. Enjoyed the video, hope you enjoyed your kai.
Chur
@@mpf_agundipsht3619 when you learn the tikanga of the hapu and what the kahawai represents. There is a reason why things are done this way in maraenui..im not trying to put a damper on anybody's fishing experience.....fish to your hearts content, just respect the rules put in place by the hapu clearly explained with signage on both sides of the river 17:56
You do know even with sashimi fish you have to still freeze it first. I checked and asked Japanese chefs. They use special freezers that can go -60C which take a hour or two then its slowly thawed. Check for yourself I don't want to be a buzz kill but just concerned about you because I love on what you do.
Haha... Another mouth breather. Crack up!
@@hookusupfishing4393 check yourself before you wreck yourself.
🤣
Hi, where is that Beach please?

Hi muddy feet .hey what's best tide to fish at motu river mouth plse .
I'm.not really sure but I'd usually fish river mouths on the incoming
U not supposed to process Ika there my bro that’s just how it has to be bro so for next time u know kei te pai mean bud my bro
I didn't know that 🙁 my apologies and thankyou for teaching kindly
It is NOT A SALMON and never will be one.!!!! Kahawai DO NOT FIGHT LIKE SALMON, THEY DONT TASTE LIKE SALMON, EVEN THE FLESH IS NOT THE COLOR OF SALMON, AND THEIR SCALES ARE MUCH DIFFERENT to Just name a few differences.
It's like a SALMON! 🤣 wow... I just meant the shape. Breathe through your nose
Haha they call them Australian Salmon over here in Aus bro so technically you're right. Anyone with half a brain knew what you meant bro.. 😂
@muddyfeet 80-85gram grim reaper BKK6/0 Single hook. Chur Maori
