    I really like that you actually play out the bad moves. As a casual amateur, it can sometimes be hard to see why a particular move is the best possible one in these grandmaster-level games.

    • @fhs4137
      @fhs4137 4 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      I agree. There are a lot of resources that are more like: "This move is a good move because you're doing x," without explaining why other moves are less advantageous. But I find it both interesting and useful, to learn to analyze and recognize both good and bad moves. You'll not only learn to recognize when *you're* about to make a bad move, you'll also be better at recognizing when your opponent is blundering. Of course you can extrapolate from knowing that x is more advantageous, so y must be less advantageous, and experiment on your own. But it's cool to have a teacher-type taking you through it and explaining.

    You should use a different color for your hypothetical moves and counters, blue for the actual game and when you are considering possible moves use red or green or something.

    I love king walks, but I can't help wondering: are there any famous games where the side "getting walked" actually ends up winning? It just seems to me like the reason the king walks up the board is always to avoid a faster mate, but then they just end up getting mated anyway.

    Just a question (I'm a newbie to chess) why didn't white push the attack on the bishop with queen at 8:33 (queen to e7), it would put king in check and simultaneously stop the rook from being taken by creating a disadvantage to the other rook and take the bishop out of the equation, king has to move -
    Nevermind! I didn't notice the queen, the trade would likely be worse; (W)queen take (B)Bishop (B)queen take (W)queen (W)rook take (B)queen, (B)rook take (W)rook.
    Leaves 1 rook either side and black with board advantage with the knight and black rook.

    At 6.59 i think Qh5 would have been best instead of Qf5 because there was double mating threat of Qh7 and Qh8. In the next move the check mating can only be saved by black giving up his queen by taking knight which will be recaptured by white rook and mating threat is still there at Qh8. Bkack will have to practically resign .

    I don't know if black could have won this game from the position he was in at move 29, but playing knight c4 knowing it would eat up 2 moves to return it to a defending position, with king left open was surely the wrong move. At that point there are a couple of options to consider, namely bishop d6 opening up the rooks horizontal and threatening the diagonal down to whites pawn on h2. With blacks queen pinning whites pawn on f2, black can if needs be move his bishop to e5

    What about on that pause moving rook on F1 to D1? Supporting the rook and threatening mate?

      what i was thinking too

    • @Creap0fluigi
      @Creap0fluigi 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i think it's because of Qc1

    • @qual_ix
      @qual_ix 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      no, it would've worked better actualy because if black plays Qc1, white checks Qe7, then Kg8, Rd8 checkmate.

    • @vladimirj2140
      @vladimirj2140 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, it won't work. If white moves rook to D1, black would take rook on d7, and it will be over for the white.

      When you're down material, you generally don't want to trade, because it will simplify the game and prevent you from taking advantage of whatever you sacrificed the material for. Conversely, if your opponent has sacrificed pieces for a prolonged attack (rather than a calculated sequence that gives you no true options) you should look to trade material to stall the attack and hasten the endgame.
