    Thank you for uploading this program, but I have a question.
    They said "clears path" or "clears a (the) path", at the first phrase of verb they introduced, so I wonder if it is not necessary to place articles or not in this expression. Thank you.

    • @diegodiniz-zw9fn
      @diegodiniz-zw9fn 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      As far as I'm concern that the article takes in this case.This is a specifically statement that over concerns a politics background to decision making on.

    • @voltydequa845
      @voltydequa845 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nice question. I'll try
      "clears the path" when the accent is on a known path
      "clears a path" when the accent is on a possible path yet to be traced
      "clears path" when the accent is on removing obstacles (to arrive somewhere, regardless of path's shape)

    • @bbclearningenglish
      @bbclearningenglish  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      👍 Good question! 😊 We would need to place an article before 'path' in this expression, which could be 'a' or 'the'.

    • @voltydequa845
      @voltydequa845 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This continued to puzzle me.
      I found the BBC article.
      The title is
      «Hungary's parliament clears path for Sweden's Nato membership»
      The subtitle is
      «Sweden has cleared its final obstacle to joining Nato after Hungary's parliament voted to ratify the bid.»
      I stubbornly continued to read "clears path" as a synonym for "removes obstacles" - imho no need for article since used in generic way.
      Now I went to verify, but it's not easy since my cold makes me fuzzy.

    I'm wondering what the difference is between farewell and departure?

    • @Falkriim
      @Falkriim 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hmm, farewell is moreso just a way to say goodbye. Where as departure/departing is more so the act of leaving and going elsewhere. If you go to an airport, if you are flying elsewhere you would have to go to the departures.
      Now, you can use “depart” like farewell. “I must depart” but that is also more of an emotional saying and would sound out of place in a casual conversation.
      Hope this helped!

      Therefore, reduce investments in sectors that bring real benefit to the population. Joining NATO means increasing the importance of the weapons industry, which is the least mentioned and the one that contributes most to global warming. Furthermore, weapons need to be tested and stocks renewed. How? Mainly making enemies and provoking wars. Why do you believe that NATO did not stop advancing in all directions, but mainly towards the East, even after the end of the Cold War. Mastering strategy requires deep thinking abilities and military knowledge.
      If 100 thousand come on border with Finland, Russia can provide them with some basic needs logistics, like high quality food and vodka, coupled with some ballet performed by Bolshoi strategic reserves, at a discounted price. Keep in mind that laundry services, for border-line presence, are not contemplated under the military doctrine of the Russian Federation.
      If this sounds too complicated, there's Risiko at around £ 30 on Amazon.

      No, Sweden is paying for its own military. The money it spends goes into its own military. It just have to pay a rather small membership fee. Of course Russia want war, just look how it invaded Ukraine and how it has invaded its neighbours. This is why Finland and Sweden is joining Nato, lol.

      Russia showed Sweden that it’s not a trustworthy neighbor. So NATO became the obvious choice.
