Correct. IIRC Only specific people knew she was female (I believe Bedivere, Merlin, and a couple of other knights from the round table). Since she does appear as a young man when in full armor with her hair tied up, no one questioned why she sounded female. They all assumed it was effects from Excalibur/Avalon (this is my belief, so don't take it as fact).
