- Hey all, Alyssa here with a first for me! A video essay!! Lately I've been obsessed with the Furby customization scene and I ended up coming across the illustrious world of Furby bootlegs as a result. What I found there was so funny and wild, I just HAD to share it with the world in video form. as someone who helps research fakes for the very wiki this video was about, i feel like this is the best representation of our wiki ever lol
I'm really happy to hear this from someone who works on the wiki, my biggest fear was the video coming across like it was mocking, or just stealing information, because I really appreciate all the hard work and research you guys do over there!!! I wanted to make this video sort of encapsulate what a fun and funny rabbit hole reading about the fakes on the Wiki was for people who might not think to read it themselves. It’s funny because now days most of these fakes are more sought after by collectors then genuine Furbies due to their limited productions.

New pinned comment time since I keep getting this same comment: The joke about hamster cages should not be taken as advice. It’s a very long video and I was very tired and pasting in whatever relevant images I could find very haphazardly. I know the small plastic cages are not good for raising hamsters. Please do not take pet raising advice from a halfhearted joke in a video about Furby bootlegs. Always do research about what kind of enclosure is healthiest for your little friends. Thanks!

Makes me think about that bootleg Hatchimal I still have somewhere.
He came into my life because I basically begged my Mama for a Hatchimal.
He was (If I can remember correctly) a green Draggle with a blue beak and he arrived with his egg already with cracks in it. While still in the egg, in the box. (Yeah idk what happened during shipping.)
When it was time for him to hatch I took the easy route and just ripped open the egg thanks to those cracks it had. Oddly enough, he didn’t sing Hatchy Birthday upon being released.
He was just in a permanent stasis of the mode he was in when in the egg, he didn’t really learn to talk or walk either, so I got bored of him quickly and placed him up on the shelf and left him there.
Fast forward to years later, we were moving hours and I find him again on the shelf and I randomly decide to look at the tag and I find the reason to his weird behaviour.
He was not a Hatchimal. He was a Hatchanimal. My Mama unknowingly got a bootleg off of Amazon when looking for a Hatchimal.
Now seeing this comment makes me think I should bring him out again and play with him.
He may be bootleggy and weird, but he’s my quirky bootleggy child and I should love him more.
So I was in the original grumbles commercial and never knew that it was considered a furby knock-off. Even weirder, im on like every furby fandom. Damn, life does be like that c:

Humorously enough, I'm quite familiar with Koby. The store I worked at sold them, and I made some extra money clearing out the old inventory. Koby spoke English right off the bat, and had a basic voice interpreter. It would play counting games, and you had to say the phrases. It WORKED, but you had to wait until it went silent to say what your part was. The buttons on the belly, head, and back were pretty Furby-like, but I think that the makers were trying to make a similar toy, and not a direct knock-off.
I love how some of these bootlegs are such a (very) loose interpretation of furby that they end up looking like a knockoff of a whole other toy line. 17:38 kinda like this one, it absolutely looks like a bootleg ouioui to me lol
For the longest time I thought I had a bootleg furby because I’ve never seen one that looks like mine, until I looked into it a bit more and discovered that I just have one from 2005 which were very unpopular at the time and not a lot of them sold lol

I just discovered the 2005 ones during an eBay search for the originals. Why do they all look high / bored / annoyed / sleepy? What happened to the entire Furby population between 1998 and 2005 to make them lose all hope and die inside? I'd love to have one, lol.
This is such a niche and wonderfully polished video that I'm worried I hallucinated it into existence and am telling everyone about it just to make sure it's real.
Hey Casey, I'll add even more weirdness to your comment - the 2012 blue Furby I got the other day was meant for my friend's bd. But the Furby's speaker is completely gone. He moves just fine, he just can't talk. So I'm keeping him. And this is where it gets weird. I named him Casey.

I have watched this video probably over 20 times now and I always like having it on in the background while customizing furbies. It's like a hyperfixation within a hyperfixation. Love it so much
3:40 oh my god, this video was meant to be in my grubby hands. Years ago I saw these youtubers find one of these at a thrift store, younger me was DEDICATED to finding out what these toys were and at some point I did figure out what they were. But soon after I forgot about them. Only for them to reappear in my mind recently. It's been DAYS since I started my search on finding this weird fluffy toy from the 90s with a baby inside it's pouch that appeared in the background of the PONPONPON music video. One of the keywords I used when trying to find these bastards was "bootleg furby toys". I clicked on this video because well I love furbys and furby bootlegs and wasn't expecting for these gremlins to appear on screen. I know this comment is extremely random and this video is a year old but I just wanted to share this

I think you could make a genuinely enjoyable series out of reviewing and talking about bootleg toys and products. You're funny, energetic and engaging, with a voice that never grates on me or feels annoying to listen to, just overall pleasant. I never feel like I'm waiting for a joke to land or a point to just be made already, you're quick paced in your comedy but never go so fast it'd be hard to keep up with your train of thought. You add your opinions when needed and most wanted, adding nice little side points and related topics to pace the flow of information. I'd definately enjoy seeing more of this content coming from you, so here's to hoping this is something you'd wanna make more stuff like one day!
this is unironically one of my favorite youtube videos of all time. everything i want in a video it's just so good.
a sincere host who is funny without feeling forced or overly ironic, a light exploration on a super nieche subculture i didn't no existed, cool obscure media, goofy little creatures, and solid music choice. it's legit been an inspiration for me to make scripted content (though most scripted projects i make fail but this one im working on im optimistic about)
not sure if you'll ever make another video like this again, but you should be proud you just made this one. such a wonderful piece of art for real.

the popularization of furbies/furby fakes is something my 12 year old self who collected furbies (i still have over 25) and got heavily bullied for it would have never predicted. i can infodump about furbies + their fakes for hours, me and my friend from back then can still talk about them in great detail
edit: also it was cool to see clips from furby man here, we knew each other back in the day from furby youtube

I'm a reader of the Furby wiki, the fakes are my favorite part. You are only the second person I've heard talk extensively about Furbies as an adult outside of hacking or circuit bending, and are the only who's taken a liking to the fakes.
It's cool to know that someone with a good sense of humor can share the same enjoyment of Furby and its fakes as I do.

As someone in the Furby community (from normal/customs to long furbies/odd bodies), some of these fakes have a charm to them that I'd low-key want to give a home haha

I have two furby bootlegs (or will have them). I have a more modern one that is a mix between a Hatchimal and a Furby called a Fuzzy Wonderz, and I will possibly be getting a Space Robby 2! Im still not sure if it will work, i can't wait to test it! Unfortunately i bought it from Mercari Japan so it will take a while and we can't pay for shipping it to the U.S. until it arrives to a certain place where we then pay or something like that.

I legitimately want to buy some of these fakes. I have 11 Furbs (One on the way, so that'd be 12 counting the new babey) and I feel like my littol family could use some misfit toys. If anyone knows where I could buy any of these fakes, please tell me.
Furby fakes are unfortunately a little rough to find, your more likely to come across a mistitled listing for one then one with the Furby fake having its name.
I've personally used Facebook marketplace to get my Furby fakes as a lot of people sell them as 'furbys' there. Good luck!!

@@poliebear1335 one reconmendation I have is to either check chinese selling sites (i forgot the names of specific ones so maybe poke around the internet), or check places like the Facebook Marketplace or Ebay. If there's multiple pages, make sure to start at the very last one and work your way up. I used this method to get a bunch of bootleg sonic and pokemon plushes, so hopefully this method would work for you.
As a last resort, I'd reconment just going to google and check under the "shop" tag and work your way up from the last page.
