As a retired RF and radar engineer as well as an audio and video engineer, I have to that you are spot on with your explanations and recommendations. Keep up the good work lad. PS - I live near Pittsburgh so I can play around with the ATSC 3.0 stuff but I'm more into audio designing these days.
AntennaMan - You'd be proud of me. We lost cable during the recent tropical storm (Isaias) out here, east of NYC, about 30 miles away. I made my own "4k high definition digital 1080/720 compatible" /sarc antenna with a few yards of 20 gage solid copper wire. I fashioned it into four dipole elements, three in the range of 9" to 10 1/2" (half wave for UHF 24 to 40) and one 32" (half wave VHF 7 for WABC). Clipped it to the curtain rod in the living room (window has fiberglass screen). Bent the wires of each to form an "arrow" of about 30 degrees and pointed it toward the transmitters in lower Manhattan. For the larger ABC element (VHF), I bent the wire to point the arrow a bit more north to get their transmitter in Times Square. I didn't add a reflector since it'd get too unwieldly for a living room fixture. Ran it thru a 300-75 ohm transformer and coax to the TV. I got 35 digital channels (lots of multicasts) - crystal clear and stable. Later on, I got one of those junk ClearTV mousepad things to see if it'd do better than my Frankenstein antenna. In the same exact location, it got 22 channels. VHF totally disappeared. I wanted to share this to reaffirm that you are ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. Antennas are just pieces of metal and the size of elements - and the location of the antenna - determines what channels you get.
I am reminded of the evening I and other technicians convinced an apprentice that a stainless steel fork made an FM antenna. There was no antenna on the receiver, so somebody stuck a fork in the antenna jack, and it worked, 10 miles from Hartford. Our rationale was that it wasn't the size that mattered, but the material. It was a rare type of metal.
Thanks for this. My neighbor just asked me to help her setup her Magnavox antenna that makes the same claims (amplified signal, 4K HDTV, insane distance). I had been wondering about how legit these things are after I unplugged the power supply and there was no change *at* *all* in the signal strength. I had expected the signal to drop out completely.
Just bought an antenna just like that ( one of the Andtop big boy models) and just set it INSIDE my house next to my tv and was surprised how well it works. I had a Mohu Glide that picked up 38- 43 depending on the weather and the Andtop picked up 54 right away. I am in the Baltimore area and with this it seems to be able to pick up a few of the DC channels that the Mohu struggled with.
I tried one of these antennas in 2018 for about a month. Cost was more like $90. It didn't get as many channels, AND as dependably as a Clearstream antenna I paid about $45 dollars for in 2010. This model of antenna brought in NO channels more than 30 miles away. I live in a relatively flat area of Texas and it brought in a total of 16 stations - on it's best day. My 8 year old Clearstream brought in 22-26 channels - in the same attic location. So I returned this one for a refund.

THANKS FOR PUTTING THIS OUT TO THE CONSUMERS ANTENNA MAN. I was so tired of these "4K digital antenna claims". Exaggeration is not the word and more like total BS! RF is RF no matter if it is digital or analog modulated. I was in the RF field for over 30 years as a FCC licensed Electronics Tech. Any antenna that is, especially indoors, will be subjected to just foliage instantly regardless of what gain you have on the antenna or/and amplifier. Therefore, if your antenna can pick up ONLY noise, your amplifier will deliver only noise no matter what the gain is. There has to be some signal to work with. Then wind and whether condition fall in as well. 100 miles? Maybe if you can get up high and over the tree line. Thus, I think the older analog TV's had better sensitivity because the new TV's are geared toward cable and WiFi where sensitivity is not that much of an issue. I have yet to see the written specs. with the sensitivity on the new TV's. That allows the manufacturers to skimp on their products and get away with a cheaper set. Back in the day of analog, the only TV reception we had was OTA so they had to compete with one another. I remember living half way between New Orleans and Baton rouge with a distance of about 30 flat terrain miles between each city and able to receive both with only rabbit ears. Thus, with an analog modulated signal signal, you could tolerate a little noise and still have a very viewable picture. With the digital TV 's, a very minute bit of noise will reproduce a bunch of little unintelligible squares along with your audio dropping out... So, to sum it up for people like me who live in an apartment, I know where most of my broadcast TV station transmitters are located (most toward my east) and can get one of these flat directional antenna's with a small RF amp (comes with the antenna) that you can purchase at Amazon for only $10. I'm about 20 to 30 miles from 90% of the transmitters and point it that way. I pick up almost 40 digital slots or "channels" if you will. It does a great job barring whether conditions. Try to aim it on a wall/window facing closest to the broadcast towers so you are not shooting through your own building. Or as per ANTENNA MAN'S video (link below) move it around. @Kirk Moore I've done that with FM. Getting FM from Vancouver BC to Eugene OR. Here at Sea Level with an FM Yagi, I get FM that far, but not as strong.
@Kirk Moore I live on the Northern Oregon Coast, about 250 miles South of Vancouver BC and 150 miles North of Eugene. I have Korner 9.2 FM Yagi I bought via Germany a few years ago. Only 81 inches long, but a great antenna. From Vancouver CFMI 101.1 and CHQM-103.5 are regulars. CFRO 100.5 is another. Plus several others come and go. Eugene regularly gives me 99.1 and the others come and go. To the East, KPQ 102.1 Wentatchee WA is regular. So the dial is pretty active here. Better with Trops as I get Coos Bay then. Fun FM stuff. I wish I could do that with TV! Got lots of E Skip through the years, but for Trops with a Winegard 6065 (125 inches long) I heard Eureka CA and Spokane WA on Trops.
@Kirk Moore Back in the analog days of the 70s & 80s, I used to get FM & TV Skip. My best TV E Skip was Ch 4 in Columbus OHIO. My best FM E Skip was probably St. Louis or Harlingen TX. I have a Sony HD Radio and with the Korner antenna, I will land on a Seattle station running HD and it is co channel with a local, wiping out the local, but only if I get it in HD. FM from Seattle is normal here at about 140 miles. The stuff on Cougar Mt is the best in signal.
I love how this guy is a total Nerd but embraces it . (Nerd is a compliment in my family so I am not insulting him I swear) Thanks for another informative video.
I have an old little rca antenna with vhf and uhf... it has like a thing you can turn on it for vhf or uhf. I think those older antennas work better than those new ones
I was wondering when you would make a video on this antenna. I figured they were over hyping it. When one watches the info-mercial, it shows. Thanks Tyler for cutting through the BS !
Over-hyping is correct, and one of the truly meaningless statistics they offer up on their antenna is the diameter of the coverage area. The radius of the circle would have some meaning since the antenna is at the center of the circle, but the diameter is meaningless bull....!
I have my living room TV on an attic mounted FM antenna. It is aligned to the south. All of the network antennas are south ranging from about 20 miles to 35 miles. The farther stations only are reliable in humid weather with considerable cloud cover. I am going to buy an (amplified) antenna you recommended when I have the extra money. I will also mount it in the attic.
Introducing the 1,000,000 mile indoor/outdoor 4K TV antenna. It has Bluetooth connection and wi-fi. It captures the signal from many miles of the broadcast tower. Please don’t ask us how it does it, it does what it does.
Tyler you are very honest reason why you are the best with anthennas l listen to you and l got the clearstream antenna indoor 84 channels crystal clear l paid 100 dollars
AntennaMan: Have you heard of Digatenna from Oostberg, Wisconsin? They make really excellent UHF antennas that I just love. I believe Ness Electronics sells them. Please give his SuperFringe a test. They use a 90 ohm antenna with a special encapsulated balun. It gives the structure a 2 db gain advantage. They also have custom made preamps. Good Watching…
I figured something was up. The phone number kept changing. I counted about 7. Plus I remembered what you said about HD signals. Thanks, Lionel in California.
Really wish the FTC would do their job and stop claims like this! Companies like this are so bold because the FTC doesn't do much, that they aren't even afraid and take out TV commercials like this.
I'm glad you pointed out the guy from the Clear TV ads. That guy's a pure snake oil salesman. I've got the Marathon antenna which is identical to the Antop and one shown in this video, and it does pretty well pulling in stations 60-70 miles away. However I'm thinking of going back to my old Clearstream 4Max (with a separate preamp) which seems to pull in a few more of those low power stations.
I haven't got anymore channels in my area yet some still off the air and don't know when they'll return hopefully I'll get a better signal with 2 amplifier boosters which did help some
Just found your channel. If I was using a dish satellite to get my cable, can I use that same dish satellite as an antenna for local channels? Thank You
You can build one hell of an antenna out of just a wood broom stick and some mettle clothes hangers for under $5.00. Hell I have transmitted to the ISS with this type of antenna built for the 144 to 148 MHz band. The most expensive part of the build is the coax cable, (75 Ohm 50 Ohm if you are going to transmit) and the UV protective calking. The expression, "A fool and their money are soon parted" comes to mind when I see this.
I just opened up the circuit for the amplifier in a "Free 4K HD Unlimited" Magnavox antenna and was surprisedto see that it has less than 99¢ worth of parts inside of it. The input signal connects to only three components: a 10 Henry coil goes to +5V DC; a 1 nF capacitor goes to the output; and a 1A diode also goes to the output. That's it! It seems the inductor is the only thing that could plausibly be amplifying the signal, since the other two are filters, but I don't know much about RF. @AntennaMan, have you opened up these gizmos? It this typically how an antenna amplifier works?
It definitely is not the best. I had many people who had issues with it that got better reception with other antennas I recommended with my antenna recommendation service. If the Mohu Sail works in your area you're likely just in a spot with strong signals.
Tyler.... got a silicon scientific antennA kit. I need longer cable from antenna to TV. They have a wierd end that plugs in (transformer-rotor). Looks like a speaker jack. Where can i get this end so i can reach my TV???
Mr. Antenna Man, have you noticed if some TV manufacturers have better receivers than others? I have two TVs connected to a single antenna using an amplifier/splitter that was recommended in one of your other videos. One TV receives 29 digital channels but the other only receives 16. I would really like to hear your opinion about the quality of receivers from different TV manufacturers.
It does not really matter if you scan 1 channel or infinite channels because it still does not mean you will be able to watch them. I am in woodville Texas, lots of trees, with a antenna 30 feet up I can scan hundreds of channels but the same 5 channels are all that ACTUALLY play. 4-1, 4-2, 4-3, 4-4 and 4-5! That would be dabl, tbd, comet(has sliders) stadium and charge. Most channels you scan mostly play out dated shows and movies also duplicate channels!
You Tube must get a charge out of placing their commercial. During the video where you said check this advertisement out, TH-cam cut in with their own Google commercial. Then cut back to your video showing the commercial you inserted.
They basically confirmed what you said, since they used the word diameter, not distance or radius. The antenna is located between two major city such as New York and Philadelphia approximately 50 miles between each market or within the 100 mile diameter you should be able to pickup both of the major stations depending where the antenna is aimed. However, you won't be able to pickup New York in Philadelphia or vice versa. So the advertisement is legal, just mis-leading.

hey, I wonder if you can assist my situation with my pvr. All is well with it aside from learning along the way on how to do certain functions, which are omitted in the so call instructions. Yesterday, for the first time I had a time recording set for one channel, in the hope that i will be able to view another channel on my TV, not record it, just viewing it. The other channel i wanted to watch was not listed in the EGP, cause it had no signals. I then went to my TV's input and only one channel other than the recorded one was viewable. Unfortunately, that was not the channel I wanted to watch. This being said, is there a way that i may be able to view on my TV any channel, while recording one? What is this loop thru output setting all about? Thanks

@Kirk Moore Not to mention all the Mexican channels too.
I love how this guy is a total Nerd but embraces it . (Nerd is a compliment in my family so I am not insulting him I swear)
Thanks for another informative video.
Nerds run the world
I have an old little rca antenna with vhf and uhf... it has like a thing you can turn on it for vhf or uhf.
Your almost at 100k subscribers congratulations.
Tyler, run your test on it and upload it to TH-cam.👍👊
@Adymn Sani Yeah really.👍👊😂
@Adymn Sani Then beat it with a pingdingbing antenna.
I got 150 miles with a 8 bay bowtie antenna and did some modifying it so it's possible! I live in the high desert this is why!
I'm sure that it would be better than the Clear TV antenna.
This is why I’m a flat earther, so there is no curvature of the earth and my antennae can reach every channel everywhere.
Introducing the 1,000,000 mile indoor/outdoor 4K TV antenna. It has Bluetooth connection and wi-fi. It captures the signal from many miles of the broadcast tower. Please don’t ask us how it does it, it does what it does.
Tyler you are very honest reason why you are the best with anthennas l listen to you and l got the clearstream antenna indoor 84 channels crystal clear l paid 100 dollars
how good is the AM reception? 2:20
I love my Clear TV antenna! No cable in 8 years.
We have this and for us it works great.
Time are hard what is the best in door Antanna I had dish cost to much
AntennaMan: Have you heard of Digatenna from Oostberg, Wisconsin? They make really excellent UHF antennas that I just love. I believe Ness Electronics sells them. Please give his SuperFringe a test. They use a 90 ohm antenna with a special encapsulated balun. It gives the structure a 2 db gain advantage. They also have custom made preamps. Good Watching…
I was wondering about antennas for the rural areas is there 1 better than any other 1? Didn’t know if you had a update on that on TH-cam
My friend has one similar to that. We are at least 40 miles from broadcast towers. At any time he can pick up at least 40 channels.
Same
I'm glad you pointed out the guy from the Clear TV ads.
Thank You
No it won't work as it's not designed to pick up the frequencies over the air TV stations are on. You will need an antenna.
Thank you antenna man your videos really shed some light on my sitution
I bought a mohu sail antenna one of the best antennas I ever seen it works very well
It definitely is not the best. I had many people who had issues with it that got better reception with other antennas I recommended with my antenna recommendation service. If the Mohu Sail works in your area you're likely just in a spot with strong signals.
You didn't say anything about the amplifier that it appears to include. How good is that component?
I've never seen that "HD Unlimited" commercial although I have seen that "Clear TV" commercial run ad nauseam
Funny thing is seeing a clearTV ad using an antenna
One thing I found that these commercials promote over the air TV more than the over the air broadcasters!
Just saw this commercial, and they're now claiming 200-mile range, YAY! LOL!
Tyler.... got a silicon scientific antennA kit.
Yes, I have a video on this topic.
Right on! Tell it like it is......junk is junk .....and BS advertising is BS.
I have a Vizio smart TV, without a coax connection. What would I need to connect an antenna?
You will need the DTV box below connected to the Vizio TV with an HDMI cable:

Antenna man I learn lot from you about bying quality Antennas 📡 for tv sets my friend
“Now, there is a technology to TRULY cut the cord.”
*INTRODUCING ANOTHER JUNK ANTENNA*
You'll be cutting the cord on these antennas!
@@GrumpzTheCat < Literally! lol
Thx for ur honesty bro 👍
Very legit! So powerful
Wich antenna do you recomend on amazon???
You Tube must get a charge out of placing their commercial. During the video where you said check this advertisement out, TH-cam cut in with their own Google commercial. Then cut back to your video showing the commercial you inserted.
Thank you what about philadelphia?
They basically confirmed what you said, since they used the word diameter, not distance or radius. The antenna is located between two major city such as New York and Philadelphia approximately 50 miles between each market or within the 100 mile diameter you should be able to pickup both of the major stations depending where the antenna is aimed. However, you won't be able to pickup New York in Philadelphia or vice versa. So the advertisement is legal, just mis-leading.
Definition of a 4K Antenna: It's an antenna that costs $4K. People are guillable. Amazingly, we saw "Normal" headphones morph into "digital" headphones as well.
All the Best!
DE W8LV BILL.
What’s the best antenna that will pick up NBC, CBS etc without subscriptions. Frustrating finding antennas that do not even work.
It depends on your unique reception situation. For a list of general recommended antennas or to sign up for a custom recommendation visit the link below: antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
Ramblings of Nothing, sign up for a Antenna Recommendation from Tyler.I did and it was well worth it.I went old school with a Winegard Antenna and a Channel Master Amp.Well build.👍👊
Is there an antenna out there that can intercept some exclusive cable designated channels?
Unfortunately there isn't. Cable channels don't broadcast a signal over the air that can be picked up with an antenna.
what do you think about the mohu sky attic/outdoor 60 miles antenna?
The three most over hyped things on the internet: 4K, 150 mile, HDTV antennas. Power saving gizmo that just plugs into an outlet. And WiFi boosters. It's all a scam.
While many folks don't realize that you can stream a bunch of free 4k channels through sites or apps like Pluto-TV, or low cost Philo, etc.
Hallo Sr.
I reside next to the MX border 78526 area;2nd floor apt and flat area.
My previous antenna "died"🤷🏼♂️.works wonders...alledgelly up to 70 miles.
Now I need a new one...Which one is better for my area?
I can't set outside antennas...😫
Antenna man, thank you for info. Do you have any informatikn for antenna for Koscuisko county Indiana. Thank you AM
hey, I wonder if you can assist my situation with my pvr. Thanks
I would love your recommendation however I dont know name of our antenna. If I send you a pic would that work when I sign up to get your advice?
Yes you can send a picture of your current antenna. Sign up at the link below: www.antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html

I now offer antenna recommendations for a small fee at the link below. One from me can prevent you from spending hundreds of dollars and time wasted on setting up the wrong antenna for your area. antennamanpa.com/antenna-recommendations.html
How do you connect to other rooms?
Review the Novawave antenna
No - it's junk. If you were sent by that company - I may make a video just saying how bad it is.
Can any antenna pick up NBC New York from New Haven CT?
What does beam width mean?
Have a antop AT800 pointing at Orlando it's on a 50 ft pole get about 55 channels anything I could do to improve it
Thanks for the review. Love the women under the power lines :)
If I can't get fm in better what can I do
The only television I have, believe it or not, is old analog style. it's great. It has RCA game inputs in the front for audio and video, and I use it for old style all-in-the-controller video games. What would I need to get a digital TV broadcast on that thing? I have no antenna. I looked at Antennaweb.org and it says there are 3 yellow stations in my area. Thanks!
Why no signal test to compare it to the last two antennas
I didn't want to fork over $100+ on this antenna when I already reviewed virtually the same model in the past. Lookup my review on the Antop Big Boy.
Hey Young Man. Just found you. Having been looking at celebriting cutting ATT&T. Your information is is just what I need. Old and retired. I’ll send you an email for advise.
Learning The tech stuff and find many faults comparing the tried and true. Tech is fine for some stuff. But sucks for other. Thanks. Also. Listen to the Opery some time on Saturday Night at 7 ct. Ya’ll get real!!!! Thanks
The 4 people that disliked the video are the ones that have the antenna...🤣🤦🏻♂️🤣 Great video and info!👍🏼
I mean there's nothing wrong with having the antenna. It isn't the worst "as seen on TV" model but I wanted to call out some of the BS claims.
ok I have to questions. probably stupid questions but what ever. #1 is there and such thing as an omnidirectional TV antenna? #2 what is in your opinion the best oatv antenna?
Great video Tyler , I was wondering when you were going to do a review on this one .
I bought an ematic tv tuner u suggested hooked it up but never gained any channels actually lost 7 of my 10 channels i hooked it up to the directions that actually didnt make any sense to me which dont say much for me cuz im not electronic savvy. I dont know whats happend.
