My hair thrived on hair grease and water only when I first went natural but one look at TH-cam videos about growing it long hair and I ditched it for high priced products and methods that take a month to complete 🙄 I am back to the basics and simplicity and my hair has never been better. i keep my hair in three styles only (twists, cornrows and mini braids) I shampoo and condition, deep condition and protein treatment when needed and trim when needed, my styles last 3-4 weeks. I also PRAY over my hair and keep God first, some people think it’s weird but God gave me my hair, so it makes sense to grow it for His Glory too and keep Him at the center of my desire to grow it long. Prayer, patience and a little hair grease. Lol I’m shoulder length moving towards armpit and my ultimate goal is waist length or longer so I can prove to people in my family that black hair CAN and DOES grow!

It’s wonderful to keep God first in all aspects of life and i understand how you feel when you tell people about how you pray over things and they look at you weirdly. But yeah, I wish you well on your spiritual journey with God!

@Princess Kee I'm "old school" and I got caught up in trying alot of things I've seen on TH-cam and nothing seem to work or change my hair. Luckily it didn't fall out but it didn't change in length either. But when I went back to just grease and water it started growing! So I've gone back to this because it always worked when I was younger and it still does now.

My hair is tailbone length. I've been natural all my life but could never grow it past mid back length at first. The only thing that ever ever everrrr has worked was leaving it the fuck alone. Braid that shit up, re-braid once every month/2 months or so, keep that up for about a year and boom, you'll see your hair grew like weeds.

For me, my hair is quite fine so I focus more on minimizing manipulation and maximizing moisture retention. I did a lot of trial and error but honestly I think I’ve found it. I'm going to be honest, I'm from India and I think the vast majority of these treatments-oil, rice water, egg, mayonnaise, etc, etc-come from India and China because people here tend to have long hair.
the truth is we're just hairy. we're really fucking hairy. I'm hairy everywhere, my legs look like the amazon. my hair has been long and thick my whole life (it's brushing the top of my thighs now) and I haven't done ANYTHING TO IT. I learnt how to style my waves but that's it. every Indian girl I know with nice hair leaves it the fuck alone. the ones who are obsessed with these treatments have scalp issues. people need to realise these eggs/homemade stuff dates back to a time where we couldn't afford shampoo and conditioner, and a lot of Indian people still can't. this isn't some magic secret, it's just genetics, and cultural practices that aren't any more effective than regular shampoos and conditioner and people who say they are are just trying to sell shit.

I know this is besides the point, but I couldn’t find where I commented on the last video. ANYWAYS: I did the 6 month protective style challenge that you did, only washing every 3 months and moisturizing every 2 weeks. Can I just say that my hair literally grew 3-4inches!! This is the fastest I’ve seen my hair grow. I started at about 12 inches in the back and sides, and 16 in the middle. Currently, after 6 months, my back is at 15 inches, my middle is at 19 inches, and the sides sides are 16 inches. THANK YOU SO MUCH !! Who knew just leaving your hair alone would help!

@ifabulocitygirl so she also talks about not using water to re moisturize. I found that using only leave in, cream, and oil has been wayyy more beneficial to my hair. I’ve noticed less breakage, and my hair literally is still moisturized when I go back in to re moisturize by the 3rd week! I keep my hair in braids as she suggested and put on a wig.

My daughter is 14 and she’s been natural all her life but I struggled trying to take care of it but last year I asked my cousin what can I do to her hair so she can wear her natural curls she told me hair grease and a little gel. She told me to twist her hair and that’s what I’ve been doing and her hair has grown so much. I hardly put any heat in it but hair grease saved her hair cause it’s the only thing that will moisturize her hair.
As for my hair I’m transitioning and all I do is grease my scalp. I can’t wait for it to grow so I can twist it. I do comb my hair every day because I don’t want my hair to be matted because I sweat in it everyday day. I’ve enjoyed learning about what works and what doesn’t.

It all depends on your own her and what you think you need for your hair. For me I just shampoo and deep condition and then use the same TGIN cream she used to do twist and keep them in for weeks and do it all over again. The key thing to remember is that there is a lot of trial and error in the beginning to figure out what works best for you.

Interesting. I have been trying your method where you don’t wash your hair for three months, moisturize keep it in protective style and experienced the most growth. My scalp does get itchy but I use green beauty method of scratch and preen to mitigate the build of sebum on my scalp and bring it down to my hair shaft and do constant massages on my scalp. I personally never use any oils on my scalp as well just some water/aloe Vera to loosen the sebum to bring it further down. It’s been working for me!

I completely agree! I did a lot of things I saw You-Tubers do when I first went natural. Some things helped but some things broke my hair off! It’s so true you have to learn what your hair thrives from, and be consistent with that. I had to sit back and think about it one day. If you focus on a moisture and strengthening balance, it all “grows” into place. Thanks for the real talk about growing healthy 4c hair. There is no miracle growth products. Just patience & TLC.❤️

@@runsprints4life767 the climate in the motherland is far different than the climate in other countries though. It’s constantly over 100 degrees, hot, humid all year round. So they need the heavy butters to protect their hair from the sun. It’s kinda different for us here in the US (assuming you’re from the US)

@@echanelle05 It's not hot and humid all year round in the motherland. There are areas in Kenya which are on the higher slope, such as the mountains and hill side where it is very cold and. These are the areas where the Kenyan athletes trained the most. 'Do your research'.

@@Junature I’m from Tanzania and live here. I agree with what you’re saying. I live in a super hot region where it’s always 100+ degrees but then the region that I go to school in is so cold it even lightly snows. So it really depends what region you’re in.

I wash my type 4 hair once a week and I've been doing so for years. If 'life happens' I may stretch it to ten days but I've been pretty consistent. My hair washing routine is super simple : shampoo, conditioner then I put my hair in four plaits. I have a video on my channel.
Leaving my hair unwashed more than a week leads to hairline acne for me plus I love the feel of clean hair.

This is so true. I’ve been natural for 3years and every time someone asks me how I grew my hair I usually tell them I hardly do anything. Yeah I’ve tried the rice water and all that but the thing that helped the most was leaving it alone. I don’t force my curls apart I just part my hair where it parts naturally, I style it twice a week and only finger comb. Just leaving it to do it’s thing is what really grows it
