Some people are waaaay too pessimistic 😪 they haven't taken the time out to learn their hair and dont give it enough time to grow and dont try using methods to retain it . And keep telling people about "genetics" this can be really discouraging for others who are looking for ways to retain length . They really need to stop leaving their comments
PleaseTickle Me it is related to genes though. taking care of it correctly and retaining length/moisture is key however, everybody has different growth phases.
Nah I for real think this shit don't grow 💀 I've been having the same shoulder length hair for the past 4 years I swearrrr. My hair still looks the same as it did when I was in elementary school/starting middle school. I've tried everything and my hair is healthy. I like to trim regularly and do protein mask and stuff but nope my hair looks the same 😤 I'm pressed because my step-sister out here with straight waist length hair and here I am sitting here with my ugly fro lol bye
Lanelle you can do it it just takes patience I’m currently on my hair growth journey too and I know it’s annoying but you just have to stay consistent and stay patient
Lanelle all you need to remember that hair ALWAYS GROWS, the length problem is retention. think of ways to preserve your ends, baby your ends, and when they give you trouble, dust or trim them.
Westernization is THE PITS when it comes to our natural hair. Bantu knots, threading, plats with no extensions; our ancestors thriiiiiived on those hairstyels. Even members of royal African families did hairstyles like that lol but european beauty standards make us think/believe those are "struggle hairstyles". Personally if it serves my hair and helps it grow, I will go to work, church, mall, airport and literally everywhere else in it. Not compromising my hair health so people feel comfortable about themselves. That's their problem, they can fix those insecurities by they damn selves.
@@mycha5335I swear. I always feel so bad for our brothers and sisters across the waters. Africa is where it's at. We have our own problems but at least we can be ourselves without fear of judgment
Disclaimer: I am a licensed Cosmetologist 30+ years. Ladies, when you document your daughters hair length, use a tape measure, document the date, her height, and age. Keep a log book, so that you have written documentation along with photos in the event that you need it for legal issues. There is No need to trim hair unless there is damage. If you happen to go to a salon, first make sure that you confirm that they have a posted current Cosmetologist License for your state. During your salon visit, do not allow the stylist to turn you away from the mirror while trimming your hair. (Best to have a friend go with you.) Some stylist want to “up sale” salon service prices or practice a hair style on you by insisting that you need your ends trimmed. Usually the trim turns into a hair cut from telling you 1/2” then they actually cut 2”-3” off, which is significant length. Hair grows an AVERAGE of 1/2” a month, 6” a year. (One half inch per month, six inches per year.) So if the hair stylist cuts 3” of hair off, it will take you 6 months to grow it back. This is why we don’t think our hair is growing, because we keep cutting off the growth progress. And please don’t get a relaxer or color bleaching, because your hair may break off in no time. I know American society is not adapting to the notion that Black Women and Black Girls could have, or grow long hair, but we do and can by just taking better care of our “Crown” and grow it as long as we like. For some reason, we always feel the need to prove to strangers that “this is my real hair” by consenting to strangers touching or pulling ours or our daughters hair. I ask that you NOT CONSENT. Do not let strangers touch your hair, or your daughters hair, because you don’t know what type of “Spirits/Bad Energy” or germs they carry (including Covid-19), or other viruses on their hands or under nails. We Don’t Need to Prove ANYTHING to ANYONE!

Shoot, I don't care about hair type as long as it's moisturized 😂 And I would like to see a video about the natural hair community, I saw those comments trying to tell you your hair type 👀
Tbh I don’t think specifics about hair type matters. Porosity, density, and thickness are way bigger indicators of if someone’s hair routine MIGHT work for you.
Excatly like natural hair people get so toxic for no reason it’s clearly her hair and it clearly grew stop picking apart the video and be happy for another sister
I love her, she's so real & honest, and such an inspiration. It's literally because of her that I feel enabled to try this hair journey & actually feel like its possible to succeed at it.
It’s true learning your hair is super important. I went through a phase where I wouldn’t wash my hair for months and my scalp was always itchy and sore but I was just getting my career started and didn’t really care. I learned that I CANNOT go longer than two weeks without washing and preferably once a week. I feel like I have a naturally oilier scalp and so it gets itchy so fast. I found that ad long as I moisturize my ends and clean my scalp weekly, my hair is happy. It’s funny how different hair routines are. Like if I followed your routine, I would have sores on my scalp, but if you followed mine, your hair would probably be more dry and less healthy. It’s all about learning what your hair needs! 😁
yes i have 4c and when i want new growth especially when it’s a protective style i put a lil water in my hair and apply grease’s and oils to my hair and it helps it grow and now i’m learning to just leave my hair alone but my hair has been growing a lot.
Had a feeling you were going to pull out Royal Crown when you mentioned using a different grease. And your experimental styles were cute not homeless at all. Thanks for the video and the honesty.
Everyone should try this deep conditioner; massage olive oil on your scalp and saturate conditioner on the ends of your hair. Separate the hair and finger de-tangle (only use your hands). You should be able to run your hands through your hair w/out disrupting the curls. Put into Bantu knots; wrap it up with a plastic bag and leave it over night, or, for 2 hours. It will make them curls pop 😍 All you gotta do is keep the moisture in after rinsing it out.
I really enjoy your content. Naturals must learn to listen to their hair. I am always amused at ridiculous comments from subbies when they clearly have not taken the time to know what works on their own hair and focusing on what a TH-camr does to their own hair. I think you give great advice especially about finger detangling. I've grown into a lazy Natural and I love your hair attitude 😊🤸♀️
Giiiirl what you’re saying is so me. Grew up in Zimbabwe and we Never used to use shampoo or care about what we washed our hair with or what we put in it. We put things like cooking oil to moisturize and that was it. Only started really knowing and learning more about my hair starting last year
Girl your afro is 🔥 and please go ahead and drag the natural hair community it needs to be said! Nappyheadedjojoba just made a video about it. I will be waiting for your take on it. 🌼
Your beautiful! I'm a older blk woman and in our era, we were told that we had to whitewash ourselves in order to fit into society. And as the generations continued our mothers, mothers, mothers did the same. So a lot of us grew up ashamed of our natural look of our negro hair. But I am so proud of you millennials that are rocking your natural hair and looking like kings and queens that you are. I have 4 children which are young adults now right around your age 2 girls and 2 boys and my girls grew their hair and rock it and my sons grew their hair and wear long dreads! I'm proud of y'all babies. Cause lord knows it's hard for us older generations to get that sickness out of our heads! BE THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BLK YOU!!!!!!!!
So inspiring. I def agree that learning your hair and how to do it is the FIRST step in getting your hair to grow. I plan to teach my future kids that EARLY lol and yes to the hair grease! I'm a new believer!
Wow I wish I knew enough to start my hair journey at 12. Thankful I wasn’t too much older like 17 or 18. I’m about halfway to my goal 3 years later!! Thanks for sharing your journey
Thank you... you are one of the very, very few who can show pictures of your actual hair at a young age and what you have actually accomplished... kudos ... most people had hair at a young age, broke it off and grew it back... you were a beautiful girl ... kids and adults can be cruel sometimes... this is a real true video and you did a wonderful job. We can all take a lesson from you...🙂🙂
My grandma used to take care of my hair, when she left for the 🇺🇸 I learned to take care of it on my own, more ladies need to learn to take care of and do there own natural hair.
I definitely agree that no one knows how to handle or do your hair but YOU! Becoming self-efficient and learning how to do my own hair has helped my grow thick so so much. I noticed that when I stopped getting sew ins and going to hairstylists, my hair has been flourishing on its own because I don’t do much to it.
After watching your routine video I picked up the Palmers, TGIN Butter and the Camille Rose Gel. The gel leaves me with flakes. So it's just sitting. But, I am so glad I tried the butter and the Palmers oil. My hair has never been this moisturized and is definitely growing, thank you for sharing your tips!
Thank you for your upload, I appreciate your pictures. I also am "pleased" that you are a natural who's hair was not long as a child as you really come from where most of us started. Therefore you know the struggle firsthand rather than someone who always had long hair as a child (no disrespect to those persons in that category). Again, thank you for the content.
I never had a perm but I learned my hair. Drinking water, consuming fruits and veggies are extremely important to hair growth. What you place in your body is vital as well. I keep my regime simple water, oil, leave in conditioner, and grease or moisturizer. I shampoo every two weeks and condition every week. My hair is mid-back length currently but recently I damaged my ends with heat so I am now treating them. Love the vid and I’m a new subbie.
I’m glad you attached photographs of your hair when it was shorter because I was wondering why your curls looked like that (no hate). I too don’t agree with the hair typing system because it puts us in categories when it’s more of a scale.
So let me just say I have no mean thing to say you were such an adorable child It was like watching you grow up what shocked me most is you don’t even use a lot of products so I’ma just sit back and follow your routine thank you for posting this it was very informative and had a lots of tips that I will apply in journey so thank you so much I really hope you don’t have to take this down cause I already saved it to my natural hair play list 😅anyway thank you for uploading can’t wait for more😆
I’m deadass following your routine, the grease and the butter girl. I even wore the scarf. I’m just chilling now, my hair feels better fr though. Even though I have low porosity.
I’ve had my natural hair in braids with extensions, which I would keep for 4months at a time, and I would shampoo once or twice in that period, so the braids would keep.. During the pandemic, I’ve done my micro braids myself and shampooing less.. Following your tip, I will now shampoo at least once a month.. I thank you for your honesty and sharing your learning experience..
That’s how my mom grew my hair, wash it, moisturize and braid it. Take down the next week and do it again 😂 if I have a daughter, she’s getting the same treatment
You’re like me when I first became a natural I also “deep conditioned” my hair with regular conditioner over night, with a tinfoil cap, in twists😂 it’s soo dangerous but I felt like it moistures my hair and made it grow. I would put water on my hair a lot to the point I noticed my scalp was suffering from a moist scalp and not allow it to dry before hairstyling. Man we thank God for growth!! Now I’m growing my hair out with just wearing twists☺️ btw you are beautiful ! Thanks for the video! Subscribed.
All hair grows you just need to get to know your hair, what works the best for u, have a consistent routine with it, and eat the best you can. I did it and my hair is growing like never before. Trust the process! She's right about the pattern of the hair starting to change when it gets long, the same happened to me and my hair has been 4c since the first day!
I have been in my healthy hair journey since 2017 (three years )... the first two years I haven’t notice massive growth because I think my hair and I were learning about what work best for us, routines, the better product , moisturizing, shedding, solving hair issues ... etc Then in 2020 ( third year) , finally my hair looks long, healthy, fuller thicker and I know how to manage it well myself .. I feel like my own hair expert. Be patient , your hair will grow it just needs time and learning ..
I finally grew my hair past armpit length and my stylist cut my hair to my shoulders. I am now working to get my hair back to that length. But I loved this video btw ♥️
This is why I dont trust people. I feel like stylists secretly don't want you to have long hair. Next time you go, be sure to tell them not to trim. That whole "TrIm EvEry 48 WEekS" is BS!!
So what I gathered from this video is that less is more. Copy! I'm soo excited to reach your length girl, you look fabulous. Everytime I have extensions or faux locs or twists in I'm like "damn, I miss my natural hair." I just wanna spend all my time nurturing and growing this beautiful ass plant on my head
Never be ashamed at how far God has brought you...just a heads up no one has it all together and your beautiful by the way and so is your hair 😍😍👌🏾🔥🔥🔥 keep these amazing videos coming sis🙌🏾
My hair is exactly everything you described. I didnt know i had curly hair until i started doing my own hair. My mom asked me where i get curls from. My hair is coarse, wavy and curl pattern. My hair loves "Hello Hydration" conditioner, and SheaMoisture extra moisture detangling leave in.
I Laughed all the way through this video. When you said TH-cam told me to I almost fell off the chair. You are absolutely adorable keep doing what you do your hair is gorgeous
Absolutely gorgeous✨ I love you! I’m also on a hair growth journey. Currently working on staying out of my hair, braiding it up, and leaving it alone. I’m currently at shoulder length.
Thank you for your honesty after being in the foster care system I've struggled to really love my hair and I'm in my 50's this year I'm trying braids and being natural for the first time wish me luck
I personally don't think any of your hairstyles were bad. You did the best you could do at the time with the knowledge you had, so congrats 👏 to you. Anyways, I really appreciate you sharing your pictures😍
Beautiful...the best state to see true beauty in anyone is when the person realizes that they are beauty without the world's standard of what is beautiful. I am always happy to see a beautiful lady who embraces herself naturally.
LOVED YOUR AFRO! ITS NOT EASY FOR A YOUNG GIRL TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO THEIR HAIR , ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU HAVE A HAIR CONDITION. SO I REALLY ADMIRE THAT. BLESSINGS!
😳So essentially you've _always_ been this pretty?😂 Regardless of your hair situation, looking at your childhood pics all I could think was "Sooo cute!"😍 Congratulations on your progress though!😊 #LoveToSeeIt
African hair grows, I've been natural all my life. My mom always did African hairstyles on my hair, however I didn't know about ayurvedic herbs, aloe vera, honey, neem tea etc because I didn't know how to do my hair on my own. Now 6 years later my hair unstretched touches my collarbone. Black hair grows with care, patience, and consistency.
We can all learn from the young. Thank you for reminding me, when I was a lot younger how I use to wash my hair once a month and it grew and was thick.
Love your hair journey! I use Suave or Trader Joe’s nourish spa balancing shampoo and conditioner. They work so well on my hair. And I agree with you that grease does grow your hair! I keep my hair in braids and under wigs. I should take more pictures of my hair so that I can document my journey. Thank you for sharing this wonderful video!
I started off with my hair long as hers in 2018 while I was a young girl. Once my mom stopped doing my hair in middle school bc I didn’t want dookie braids anymore my hair just got shorter and shorter especially when I started wearing weave. I tried dreads and lost so much hair because of that also. I know that I can get my hair back long eventually with the right determination and discipline/knowlege. Thank you for sharing your hair journey and tips. It help keeps my hopes up
Out of every natural hair video I’ve seen on TH-cam. Your video was the best! You were totally authentic, you have lots of before pictures and I can actually see your transition and your hair is amazing and you are beautiful! #HairGoals
I recently started to maintain moisture in my hair by using glycerine after moisturizing. Prior to this my hair would dry up after two hours no matter what I used. I simply dilute a little bit of glycerine mixed with water in a small spray bottle and I spray my hair lightly after applying my favorite moisturizer. Now my hair is soft like bunny fur. I wish I had discovered this years ago. Thank you for sharing all of your experiences with us.
You are AWESOME I noticed that if I washed my hair only every two months or so it grew better I just have issues with tangles and my hair would break lots of breakage I don't use combs but I still have lots of breakage I shaved my head 2yrs ago and my hair grew really fast its 10in long but still breakage. I'm 63yrs old hair is white most in front more that half way down I love the color God gave me. I'm not going to cut it again it's all natural kept in braids wear pretty wigs wear my hair on weekends don't touch it much at all but I will be trying your way. I'm following you young lady your younger pics were very pretty your pretty now. God Bless wish I could meet you🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽😊😊😊🤗🤗🤗 keep up the good job and Blessing others this is your gift to us.

Wooow, first of all thank you for these pictures. Thank you for encouraging me that I can also have healthy "long" hair.
Yes, learning how to do your own hair is very beneficial to you. I started doing this at the beginning of the year, I see improvement
My hair has never retained moisture better than when I used hair grease as a sealant.
Same
same but it irritates my scalp so bad
yes i have 4c and when i want new growth especially when it’s a protective style i put a lil water in my hair and apply grease’s and oils to my hair and it helps it grow and now i’m learning to just leave my hair alone but my hair has been growing a lot.
use grease on your scalp..the ingredients nurture your hair follicles from within. don't apply it on strands,...it dries hair strands
What is the best moisturizer for 4c hair, though? I've been using Lester's Pink Lotion and I don't think it moisturizes long.
Do my hair and I’ll help u study💀
😂😂 word??
😂😂😂
Lolz
Yeah, the natural hair community is something else... On a side note though, those afros looked great sis
Yesss

Had a feeling you were going to pull out Royal Crown when you mentioned using a different grease. And your experimental styles were cute not homeless at all. Thanks for the video and the honesty.
Awe thank you lol, and no problem ❤️❤️
Everyone should try this deep conditioner; massage olive oil on your scalp and saturate conditioner on the ends of your hair. Separate the hair and finger de-tangle (only use your hands). You should be able to run your hands through your hair w/out disrupting the curls. Put into Bantu knots; wrap it up with a plastic bag and leave it over night, or, for 2 hours. It will make them curls pop 😍 All you gotta do is keep the moisture in after rinsing it out.
22:44 You don't even need make up, your natural beauty is popping
Jesus loves you
I really enjoy your content.
Thank you!! I really appreciate you for your support ❤️❤️
Lazy natural. Ya
Giiiirl what you’re saying is so me. Grew up in Zimbabwe and we Never used to use shampoo or care about what we washed our hair with or what we put in it. We put things like cooking oil to moisturize and that was it. Only started really knowing and learning more about my hair starting last year
Omg I did the cooking oil thing too😭😂
Iii cooking oil here vaskana
My mom talked about using engine grease Ik not sure what kind she was talking about but she did have long hair before she cut and locked it
I love her...she's so real (thus far). This is a real journey (not to say the other journeys arent). *SUBSCRIBE*
God loves you
First of all your pictures cute 🥺❤️
Awe, thank you 😭 there was definitely a few embarrassing ones in there tho
So inspiring. I def agree that learning your hair and how to do it is the FIRST step in getting your hair to grow. I plan to teach my future kids that EARLY lol and yes to the hair grease! I'm a new believer!
Thank you for being 100% transparent. No drama, no fluff. I appreciate you being your beautiful authentic self. God bless you❤️🙏🏽
Wow I wish I knew enough to start my hair journey at 12.
We can all take a lesson from you...🙂🙂
Thank you very much. We have a great example of how hair growth is totally possible for black women.
Queen you are God sent
I'm 41, seen lots of natural hair videos, but you and your videos have given me hope on my hair journey
Thanks and God bless
My grandma used to take care of my hair, when she left for the 🇺🇸 I learned to take care of it on my own, more ladies need to learn to take care of and do there own natural hair.
This was not boring at all. Truly enjoyed your truth.
Just finished getting one of my wisdom teeth removed and was going to sleep off the painkillers but you posted so...🤣🤣
I’m glad you attached photographs of your hair when it was shorter because I was wondering why your curls looked like that (no hate). I too don’t agree with the hair typing system because it puts us in categories when it’s more of a scale.
Joanna Namirimu I’m well aware. I didn’t want to post separate comments.
Omg!! 😂😂 girl rest!
Aww feel better soon
DAMN!! SMMFGDH!!!😕
So let me just say I have no mean thing to say you were such an adorable child It was like watching you grow up what shocked me most is you don’t even use a lot of products so I’ma just sit back and follow your routine thank you for posting this it was very informative and had a lots of tips that I will apply in journey so thank you so much I really hope you don’t have to take this down cause I already saved it to my natural hair play list 😅anyway thank you for uploading can’t wait for more😆
girl forget the haters. they just mad because your hair is so beautiful!
“Maybe I’m a lil nasty” lol no I leave my hair alone for about 2-3 weeks before I wash it again
I wash & deep condition every week
I will go about a month. My hair likes when I mind my business, lol 😂
@@vayoha02 Exactly my hair love to be left alone! I just moisturize it with water and oil from time to time
vayoha02 facts! Every month I wash my hair lol
Same even tho I do try my best to deep condition every week
You’re like me when I first became a natural I also “deep conditioned” my hair with regular conditioner over night, with a tinfoil cap, in twists😂 it’s soo dangerous but I felt like it moistures my hair and made it grow. I would put water on my hair a lot to the point I noticed my scalp was suffering from a moist scalp and not allow it to dry before hairstyling. Man we thank God for growth!! Now I’m growing my hair out with just wearing twists☺️ btw you are beautiful ! Thanks for the video! Subscribed.
Nothing wrong with your childhood photos sis. You were a beauty then as you are now. No 🧢 🤷🏽♀️🥰
GIRL....God made you sooooo beautiful! Literally, throughout the video I was just like, "She is so pretty!" Jesus loves you(and everyone reading this)
All hair grows you just need to get to know your hair, what works the best for u, have a consistent routine with it, and eat the best you can. I did it and my hair is growing like never before. Trust the process!
She's right about the pattern of the hair starting to change when it gets long, the same happened to me and my hair has been 4c since the first day!
I have been in my healthy hair journey since 2017 (three years )... the first two years I haven’t notice massive growth because I think my hair and I were learning about what work best for us, routines, the better product , moisturizing, shedding, solving hair issues ... etc
Then in 2020 ( third year) , finally my hair looks long, healthy, fuller thicker and I know how to manage it well myself ..
HELLLL NAWWWWWW
I love your shrunken state hair! Thick, lush, bountiful, yeees.
Thank you!! ❤️
Lmaooo I loved when editing natural academia chimed in and shut the sarcasm down. Great content as always 😁😊
Super adorable as a kid, beautiful now, you have nothing to be ashamed about. Thank you for sharing your hair styles over the years.
Never be ashamed at how far God has brought you...just a heads up no one has it all together and your beautiful by the way and so is your hair 😍😍👌🏾🔥🔥🔥 keep these amazing videos coming sis🙌🏾
currently at the big chop stage... cried all week. 😭 your hair is absolutely beautiful ❤️
No 💦. It will grow. Find the best routine for ur hair and forget the rest.
Thank you for showing that reaching a long length does NOT happen overnight.
*you're beautiful now and you were then! never allow people's opinions lead you to delete your hard work! focus on the positives, girly!*
Thank you! ❤️
Thank you for showing your “baby” pictures. Your journey is inspirational and you have beautiful hair. 😊
Absolutely gorgeous✨ I love you! I’m also on a hair growth journey. Currently working on staying out of my hair, braiding it up, and leaving it alone. I’m currently at shoulder length.
Hows tge journey so far
Thank you for your honesty after being in the foster care system I've struggled to really love my hair and I'm in my 50's this year I'm trying braids and being natural for the first time wish me luck
I know this video is about your hair but your EYES are gorgeous 😍 so glad I found your channel! Thanks for the tips btw!
You are a cute girl when you were younger as a child and now as a young lady. I appreciate you. You're very honest and I appreciate you.🙂
YASSSSS QUEENNNNNNNN
checking out your channel sis!
@@kitbracadabra thank youuuuu 💘💘💘💘💘☺️
lovely skin
lovely bone structure
great to see a bootiful black queen with NATURAL hair
I personally don't think any of your hairstyles were bad. You did the best you could do at the time with the knowledge you had, so congrats 👏 to you. Anyways, I really appreciate you sharing your pictures😍
No one knows your hair better than you!!!.....thts what makes the difference...👏👏👏
I remember the cornrows with the beads at the end . I loved them 😩
Girl I had to take em off because my people said “yo pa pou kretyen” 😭 I was so upset!
Natural Academia girl yes my mom be like kretyen pa sipoze mete tres na tet yo😂
Natural Academia girl remember I was too upset I was like wtf you mean 🤣🤣🤣🤣 they were so perfect 🥺
your 2016/2017 afro was BEAUTIFUL. your hair is just really beautiful. also, you are absolutely gorgeous.
Awww look at Young Natural Academia 🥰😍 so cute! Thanks for sharing love
God loves you ❤️
I always felt like porosity is way more important than hair type. Your hair looks beautiful!
It's so funny that your face didn't change, I love that.
I wonder how I would be growing up
You are such a natural beauty!
Thank you ❤️❤️
You are BEAUTIFUL. It’s blessing you’ve been natural since childhood and now have great natural hair. Thanks for this video love!😘😍🥰👏🏿
Jesus loves you
Wow, Sis! You look like a model. Beautiful. Your hair is a pulse to your beauty.
she rocked that short hair look😍😌
That Afro was fire! 🔥❤️
