I'm trying to get back into the hobby, I played warhammer back when I was a lad in the 2000s - stopped when I joined the army, an now when I'm out i've got free time and nobody around, the perfect time to need to get back into painting. Going back to games workshop, everything changed, the old narratives are dead, I don't know anyone, can't get back into it. But DnD miniatures and Etsy 3d Prints, are a great place to start and practice getting back into the hobby of painting. Your video helped me choose this as my 'starting again' set, as all my old paints haven't lasted 10 years! Even the old inks were like dried riverbeds. My thanks :)
Excellent review. As a relatively new returnee to the hobby ( after a 25 year break due to my sons interest in 40k and thus renewing mine) I was really pleased with the ease of use vallejo offered compared to citadel paints. I personally found it much easier to achieve the correct consistency of paint with vallejo.
I'd like to see a comparison video on how well Vallejo paints do when you try and use them to paint Warhammer miniatures in the 'Eavy Metal style for like for like i.e. Heavy Blue by vallejo instead of Mcragge Blue by GW Citadel.
@@novalechuck7498 what do you find to be so "top notch" about them, im my limited experience they have been nothing but a nuisance? Scale75 is the biggest failure of the paint industry. It's not just me but there are many people who complain about not being able to put down a solid base coat, along with the paints leaving heavy brush strokes. There are also a lot of people who praise them like You for instance. I purchased a Warfront paint set which are the same formula as the original scale-color (black caps/lids) paints. The warfront are ultra matt whereas the original are matt. I primed a flat plastic surface with Citadel's Corax white and tried out the scale paints before applying them to my Alpine figure. It took me 5-6 coats to get a solid coat, and 8-9 coats to somewhat get rid of the brush strokes. I did a control test with Vallejo Model and AK's 2nd and 3rd generation paints and after two coats they left a solid base with no visible brush strokes. I always read people saying Scale 75 are great for glazing or blending; that's like saying this is an amazing car but it just doesn't drive in reverse. A paint should be good at everything. I have not tried the Scale75 Artist 20ml tube heavy body acrylics, im hoping they're not the same as the dropper bottle SCale75 paints.
I just ordered a set of vallejo. Cannot wait till i can give them a try. They will be my first miniature paints and i’ve never painted miniatures before. I’m an illustrator so i know how to paint on paper but not on a plastic/resin 3d model. Thanks for the in depth review. Edit: i bought a catoblepas as my first miniature. Its such an odd creature and i love it. Also its a bit bigger than medium sized humanoids so hopefully a good first mini to try stuff on.
Can anyone recommend a good citadel to Vallejo conversion chart? The one Vallejo our out doesn’t include all colors (ie steggadon scale green, wagon grey, etc).
Do you have any experience of long time storage of these paints? I have many revell enamels since 1995-96 and even the very first ones are still alive. I dilute them in every 10 year if not opened for any other reason, of course... :)
I used them lately i have good impresssions and coverage only from black and bronze. Yellow was a mess and with flat green i had some issues, and even bigger issues and big marks on big area coverage with Silver with brush painting. How can i have good even covarage without brush marks on large areas for example: planes?
Wery often when I brush paint details on my millitary viechles with vallejo model color I get crappy results. I thin it with Italeri's thinner (made by Vallejo) or water but I often get these ugly blobby results. I prefer painting with enamels as it is tuff paint and you will not often get any problems with them. Do you know why I get this problem? Maybe the batch is bad? Not mixed enough? Maybe my brush is bad?
These paints are great quality but the selection in this particular set will be awful for sci-fi and fantasy miniatures. Two thirds of the box is devoted to green and grey which is great when you are painting military miniatures but most of these colours won't get any use for those of us painting stuff like skeletons, elves and space marines.

hey, why's it called "flat red", are the Vallejo Model paints not all matt? Their website says they're "matt and opaque". Thanks.

Does model color paint have the "this paint is known to cause cancer in the state of California" please answer.
