I saw someone who played house rules of starting with one of each resource. Think this would make teaching it easier. It also relieves the frustration of the slow start for just grinding for what you need. Sometimes I just want to get the game flowing and not be all fiddly.

I played this tonight. Someone brought it with him to the gamenight at a local store. I already was going to get this game at Essen but now i definitly am going to run for this one.

The inn only lets you play cards from the meadow for that discount, not from your hand.

I actually have a set of bowls for holding resources in all the games I play to get around the issues you describe with component piles spreading out / mixing and components rolling around as the game goes on. Highly recommend anyone hit up a goodwill or something to grab a set of little bowls for cheap to keep with your board games to use for any and all games to hold components.

I use vintage glass and ceramic ashtrays from the 60s and 70s that I've found in charity shops over the years :)

I just love that damn tree... I tried to play without it but eeeh... Just can't! It gives the game even more theme and that "lore" to it.

Zee how do you like the original solo mode vs the Mistwood expansion? Is the expansion worth the money?

What would you (Zee or anybody seeing this comment) say about the solo mode compared to the multiplayer version? Does it feel the same or completely different? I mean in some games they nowadays try to make the solo mode feel like you're playing it as a multiplayer version but just with a bot but in some games the solo gameplay is totally different.

It feels pretty similar ut is always hard to tell what the opponents strategy is since they can have up to 8 cards in their hand. So the randomness feels similar. Obviously playing with friends adds fun to the game but you can still play alone.

When you change to Summer season, does Rugwort get to draw two cards from the meadow also? you skipped it.

No he doesn't.

Nope. He doesn't draw cards or have a hand. His critters block various spaces on the board and he gets to play a random card from the meadow when you play a card. THe specifics are the in the rulebook(s) :)

this looks like a nice game but the tree seems unnecessary and just a piece to make the game a little more expensive. if they come out with a $40 version I might pick it up.

It’s funny how so many gamers scream about Euro type games lacking theme yet the tree, which is a little superfluous from a game function standpoint, is being questioned.

The tree is just one extra token sheet (as one is already required for the tokens), so there is no way it would drop the cost that much, not even close. Also, no game of this size costs 40€ these days, Everdell isn't any more expensive than other similar board games that come with high quality cards and plastic pieces.
Yes, the tree is unnecessary, but complaining about it is even more so.
