Always happy to hear from you. My old axes are a big part of my wood harvesting. Using a nice sharp vintage axe is a real pleasure, plus it makes my work in the woods a whole lot easier.
Brown Camp Hardware was a big company at one time, and sold all kinds of tools etc., but like so many they disappeared. I only have two items from that company, the axe and my 1898 bicycle. I am on the lookout for a few more items. Junk collecting is a fun hobby !
There were a vast variety of axes made over many years. The best ones were made from the 20's till around WW-2. The ones with the name and markings on them are generally the better ones, and the unmarked ones are generally of lower quality. Take a small hammer or wrench when out collecting them, as you can tap against the axe head, and the ones that ring like a bell are the best ones, if it is a dull sound they are brandX. There are a few books that have been published on axes that have history and types made over time.
Good to see you, hope Mrs Obsolete is doing well! Good video, I have a axe head I have been wanting to put on a handle. I will use your technique. Also got my first ProMac 650, I bought one after watching a few of your videos. Waiting on a carb before I can use……Hope I’m not a weenie!😅
Thanks for watching and the nice comment. Mrs. is is doing well and will be on crutches soon. You will be happy with your pro mac 650, they are real performers. Using a 650 will help one from becoming a weenie !
I need to do all that excat same thing as one of my good ax is ready for a new handle. It takes same handle. We have a second hand store that a old timer makes handles and sells them at a very reasonable price so I get them there. Good stuff see you next time.
Thanks for watching. Nice to have a craftsman around that makes handles. The handles at our local hardware stores are heavy, too thick and of poor quality wood.
Good to show new people how to sharpen an axe. Slow and go lasts so much longer.
Nice Wood ax and nice sharpener I like how you had to get up there and sit and paddle to sharpen and HI TO BOHT OF YOU AND THANK YOU FOR THE VIDEO
Using vintage tools and equipment is much more rewarding that using new crappy tools etc. We appreciate your watching and commenting on our videos.

I have bought several axes and handles from yard sales. I want to start restoring them.

Is that the same mountain lion cat?.. thanks for your videos!!
My original mountain lion has passed away quite some time ago, but I have several new ones to take his place.
That's a super nice ax. I love old axes. How is your wife doing?
My son found the BROWN CAMP HARDWARE STORE axe. That was an excellent find. Mrs. O is getting better every day. Thanks for watching and commenting.
