  • Beautiful plane. Video shows inside and outside of it and very good quality.
    Amendment: Video was shot in Czech Republic (with a c!) Please enjoy this video, keep the country-bashing, and political bashing to a minimum. :) this is a wonderful video about a plane that is very old and loved by many. If you stumbled across this when looking for Raptor's or Hornet's or whatever American plane you prefer PLEASE check your spelling in the search engine and don't take out your aggression's here. Thank you! :)

    This airplane might be old, but it is a legend! It has served Eastern Europe and Russia for over 50 years and is still in service in some countries. True, there are much better aircraft today, but the MiG-21 remains my favorite!

As for it only being an interceptor: there are many folks who have been bombed by Mig21's in recent years, or photo'd by recce 21's. Not to mention the cold war threat of whole squadrons of 21's equipped for spraying NATO troops with chemical agent if the balloon had ever gone up.

    The reason for that is that the US continued to develop and use better fighters (F-14,F-15, F-16, F-18, F-22) while some third rate countries continued to use outdated and dangerous to operate MiG-21's. India is getting rid of it's 21's as fast as it can so as to not loose more pilots to it.

    The delta wing MiG-21 did bleed energy relatively quickly in a turn, but still turned better than the F-4. But as I have stated prior, turn rates aren't the most important aspect of a fighter. Speed and firepower are more important, that is why the F-4 is a better fighter than the MiG-21.

    True that the MiG21 and F4 were built for different purposes.
    Perhaps a better match for the MiG21 is the F8 Crusader. The F8 shot down 4 MiG21's with no loss to MiG21's. Three F8's were lost, but to MiG17's, but the F8 also shot down 15 MiG17's.
    The F8 proved to be the best pure fighter in the Vietnam war.

    Yeah I love the show Dogfights. I'll PM you a link where I got my information though. Also, vietcong =/= NVA. The VC were basically insurgent fighters who were separate from the official army. They didn't have ROE, didn't answer to the government, and knew the jungle like the back of their hands. The NVA were more organized but had a larger chain of command because they answered to the government. Can't explain well in a comment but basically vietcong = guerrilla fighters. NVA = main army.

    Another great characteristic of the plane was that it was very easy to maintain. This allowed the MIG-21 to be sold, traded or given to given to dozens of developing countries during the cold war. The U.S. designed the Freedom Fighter (F-5?) for the same purpose, but it was not nearly as successful as the MIG 21.

    1959-1962 the F-4 set 15 speed, altitude and time to altitude records. None of these records were ever beaten by a MiG-21.
    The F-4's normal AA weapons load out was 4 Aim-7 and 4 Aim-9. The maximum AA load out of the MiG-21 was 6 short range AA-8, and this was rarely used.
    True the Navy F-4's never had a cannon, but the USAF F-4E carried the M61 Vulcan which totally out classed the cannon carried by the MiG-21.
    Not opinion, just facts.

    well thats a gun sight,it can be varied with distance just like shown in video,when circle is big means the target is very near when the circle if small means the target is far.the screen in which the circle was appeared is known as HUD means heads up display.

    it's so nice to see these jets in their original military configuration as they were made. many old planes that are still flown these days have their original equipment ripped out and GPS screens slapped all over them in place of the cool original reflex sights, targeting systems, radar, etc.

    You CAN buy these for civilian use, found one up for sale today, only thing your not able to have is the Nuke interface package, all the switches still light up and such, but it will not work. Saw it on "trade a plane" for a phenomenal amount of money.

    Hi YF681.
    While I agree that the Mig21 is an outstanding aircraft, and has been in front line service for decades, it is no longer classed as a leading edge interceptor/fighter (although is still a good dog fighter). So, assuming the two pilots were equal, and the combat was no holds barred (so likely to be BVR), how do you think the Mig21 would beat an F35. What weapons do you think the Mig would use.
    Of course, there would have to be a serviceable F35 to start with lol (not many of those)

    Ah yes, good ol' Cold War fighter. Forget stealth and advanced radar and fly-by-wire. Back in those days all you needed was a good engine, a good gun, and some rocket packs. That goes for east and west; the F-86, F-100, F-5, F-8, Mystere IV, Hawker Hunter, English Electric Lightning, Super Mystere, Mirage III, MiG-15 up to MiG-21. That's when jet fighters were actually fighters and not just just flying computers which shoot missiles from miles and miles away.

    In Canada students learn about an interceptor aircraft made in Canada called the Avro Arrow which was supposedly "light-years ahead of its time" but got scrapped during prototype phase. I stood up in class and said "the Mig-21 was by far the best aircraft of the era, let alone century, so stop with this Canada-producing-good-weapons bullshit". I was sent home for 3 days but it was worth it!

    I'd rather they remade the MiG-21, but with more than 45 minutes of endurance. Ridiculously short range was the only serious flaw the MIG-21 had, and I think doubling that time would be far more useful on an everyday basis than thrust vectoring nonsense.

    You're sure? because i remember watching dogfights on the history channel and it was a situation where a flight of Vought F-8 Crusaders were engaging MiG-17's over Hanoi. Later in the engagement they dogfighted MiG-21's and it said that MiG-21 encounters were rare as the vietcong had very few in their inventory and only used them in hit and run engagements, and yeah my favorite air war was the skies over Iraq in desert storm, and how American F-15's engaged MiG-29's. Amazing (:

    My uncle probably can. US Naval air to air victories over Vietnam claimed 38 confirmed Mig kills at the expense of 5 Phantom losses. That ratio right there automatically makes the mig's cost effectiveness moot, however, we DID lose a crapload of aircraft to SAMs.
    Maintenance cost for Russian weapons are always cheap, however no other country has a strong enough infrastructure to maintain those aircraft to fully optimize their cost potential such as the United States.

    As far as I know, the MF version has the GSh-23L. On the other hand, the ammo looks a bit large for a 23. Who knows... the 21 has been tampered with so much that anything's possible.

  • @phantomTomcat1985
    @phantomTomcat1985 15 ปีที่แล้ว

    Actually the Phantom was designed as a naval bomber interceptor..it wasnt designed with the "dogfight" in mind..where the F-8 was..as was the MiG-17 and 21.

    I know the German Pilots as they both have the Mig-29 and Panavia Tornado did have their training in dogfights duals. Well sometimes the Mig-29 wins some the Tornado. All depending on the pilot.

    Hi YF681. Thanks for the reply. I am starting to see your reasoning now, but am also realising you seem to know little of the 35's avionic systems, or manoeuvrability. It might be worth you checking out the 35's weapon aiming system, and its integrated pilots helmet. Then you would see that your comment on the HUD, would have no effect on the outcome of a dogfight. If current gen fighters can slew their aiming sights sideways (not using HUD), why do you think the 35 would not be able to?

  • @saburusakai
    @saburusakai 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    No, that was just a very short burst. Those 23mm have a very high ROF. An odd stand set up for bore sighting the guns.

  • @GrossGluck
    @GrossGluck 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    It wasn't created for dogfighting, but it had a gun atleast - phantoms in the first versions didn't - many pilots were down about that in vietnam war.
