I worked at this airport for 5 years. Pilot’s name is Will Ward and he also owns/flies a MiG-17. When he took them out, I stopped working completely and just watched. It was the highlight of my time there. On top of it, he is a super nice guy who would talk to anybody who asked about his MiGs
From a cold war veteran , in an ADA unit, I think the Mig-21 is one of the best looking fighters ever,the stats are the stats, but it is a great looking bird.
I don't care where it came from, I just love watching and hearing cool old jets, no matter which they were on back then. these are pieces of history and Russian jets require balls of steel to fly no matter what generation they're from so kudos!
As an American I have nothing but respect for the mig 21. The plane looks like the embodiment of speed circa 1960. Looks just like a jet engine with some fins and a cockpit.
If you ever come to Helsinki, Finland, you can admire a MiG-21 bis on the roof of "Verkkokauppa" (the biggest electronics store in the Nordic Countries). An elevator takes you up and you get right next to the plane - no fence or wire or other nonsense - and it is free of charge!

This Mig was made 29.8.1975 as MF version . His first marking was 4307 and after middle overhaul in 1985 with new nuber 9307. History of services 10.10.1975 1.SLP (Stíhací letecký pluk - Fighter air regiment ) , 12.1985 9. SLP , 1.12.1991 9.SBOLP ( Stíhací-bombardovací letecký pluk - Figter-bomber air regiment) , 4.93 82.SSLT ( samostatná stíhací letka - Separate fighter squadron) and 9.93 was stored at AFB Plzeň - Líně. Best regards from Czech Republic .... BTW: CZ is not RUSSIA :-D

I gone upto this aircraft and touched it all over. It's unbelievably tiny and compact and the wings appear to be just sheet metal ; could possibly fit in my sitting room. Can't believe it's capable of such performance .
I dont think they were using it here, but the mig-21 has an emergency 2nd stage afterburner. This thing looks like a rocket, and with that thing on it goes like a rocket too! With the 2nd stage afterburner on the engine only lasts 3 minutes but this thing will accelerate scary fast.

Its a rocket with wings.Cant slow down enough or turn fast enough for efficient and quality fighting role. Its awesome flying machine but became obsolete long time ago.
Very well filmed, or videod. I heard a shutter going, I'd love to see the stills that guy got of those climb outs into the sunset with the heat flowing out of the engine. If one of the photogs who shot that has some shots posted, I'd love to see them. Looked like a Fishbed-D. Very nice.

Speculation of fuel consumption of the Mig 21 based on the fuel consumption of the F104 Starfighter with the J79 Turbine Engine. The F104 in full afterburner would consume 10 gallons of fuel per second. I assume the Mig 21 is similar in fuel consumption while in afterburner.

GREAT video. I believe the Mig 21 still holds the top speed for manned production fighter jet. Not bad for an almost 70yr old design. Props to the Rooskies!
The MiG-21bis at full afterburner with no load has a thrust to weight ratio comparable to that of an F-16. But it will flame out the engine very quickly, especially if the MiG isn’t in great condition.

MiG.21 is a spectacular flying beast which is capable for any type of Ariel missions, though this vintage era technology has been retired from all of the world but it is still in the service for few third world countries like India dragging this vintage era flying coffin with various added bastardization in to original Fishbeds technology, the latest of it they have converted the MiGs engine on cheap hybrid fuel technology (Aviation fuel & Kerosene oil) Indo air force is now flying Fishbeds more on locally produced Kerosene Oil just for saving the God damn money but at the cost of their airmen' s lives... .
If you look at the side of the plane the flag which I thought at first was Russia's flag is very strange because it has colors in incorrect order. Russian flag is white-blue-red (whichever order) but on the plan it looks like it is white-red-blue tricolor. How or why?
I'm one of the best mig21 fighter pilot . I did everything with it . I did a split s under 4000 feet. I broke the sound barrier . I exceeded almost 21000 feet height. I exceeded 2 March for a few minutes .
Even in this day and age a legacy MiG could ambush an F-35 and knock it out of the sky. Especially in a place like north Korea with all its mountains. A very nasty place to fight a war. Missile batteries all over the place.
This Fighter is só beautiful the shape my passion is very old but is still on the diference betwen americana and russians are obvious but the purpose is the same but for US is very beautiful and beautiful from Carlos Portugal

Mig 21 Fishbed may be over 50 years old but still very effective in air defence and interceptor roles.
Tzeentch India still uses upgraded ones to great effect
with some inexpensive up grades ... still a potent point defense interceptor

This is czech planes , and the airport was near podebrady, or liberec.

The "diamond" engine operating mode (super-afterburner) was named for the shock diamonds in the exhaust.

Not this one, no. Sadly it was lost in a runway overrun years ago
