    Great example and explanation of installing the BLTouch and Silent Board. Just completed the process, well building the mesh at the moment. I'm really not surprised that you have quickly become a valuable resource for the SV01! Thanks for your effort and work.

    This video is great! I bought the silent board and BL Touch at the same time as the SV01 but I haven't been able to get it tuned properly. After this video I sat down and re-tuned and WOW! what a difference! Now I'm printing perfect first layers and my brims are actually structural now. Before, the brims were like individual strands but now they're fusing together and actually doing the job they're supposed to do. I haven't had a failed print since I followed this video. Thanks Joshua! Now I need some quieter fans...

    Thanks a lot for this, I was getting confused when I was mounting the bl touch to the head. I noticed their instructions made no sense since the bltouch wasn't even straight in their videos.

I have come back to this video several times for reference. Since I had to change out the head as it was defective. Your vids helped a lot thank you for making them.

    Totally worked! Thank you SO much for these videos. I'm new to 3d printing and have been very successful because of them. Just a heads up. You may want to power cycle after installation BEFORE printing. I left runoff sensor off and printed something. When it finished, it tried to keep pushing the bed off the machine, making awful noises, etc. Thankfully I was there when it finished and turned it off quick!

    I upgraded my Ender-3 to have a silent mainboard and BLTouch a year ago. With my Ender-3 I did not have to do the 100 point auto bed level but instead it does a 9 point auto bed level before each print. I also configured the start g-code to heat the nozzle and bed while doing the auto bed level to save time (CHEP made a video about it). I had to compile Marlin v1.1.9 myself to fit onto the 128k of the Ender-3 by removing features. Anyways thanks for the video you got me into FPV (:

    One thing to consider before going to auto-leveling (which is not really auto at all just more tinkering) are that:
    1. you can't "auto home" the nozzle towards the left forward edge of the plate after a filament change to make sure it starts printing at the exact location; this is because "auto home" now will be at the center of the plate.
    2. you can't rescue a print where the filament stopped coming out because again, you can't "auto home" at the left front edge of the build plate because the auto-level is programmed to auto-home in the middle of the plate.

    I find the Bltouch to be the most useful when switching built plate materials and tempuratures (which influences warping), that is by far the best use for it, then you can switch between polypropelyne, glass, stock, pei, metallic, and more. That allows you to print tons of materials easily.

    Great Video I had my BL Touch for my Sovol 01 a couple months now and was having problems setting it up. It wasn't as easy as it was on my Tevo Tornado and Ender3 Question I have now is how to change it to a 9 point Level from the 3 or where I can read on changing it. Like it is on my other printers. On my other printers all I have to do is put G92 in start code and that's it Thank You for any help

    About 3 months ago I purchased a Kingroon KP3S because everyone said it just simply worked out of the box which is exactly what I wanted. It did exactly what they said and it gives excellent prints every time as long as I don't screw up of course. I just ordered the Savol SV01 as I wanted a larger printer for some things. The Savol SV01 had pretty all the things that I wanted in a printer. The only thing that I was disappointed in was the fact that it is only an 8 bit board which as far as I am concerned is unbelievable in 2021. But they list a 32 bit board that is plug and play but after watching this video I find out that is not true, at least at the time of this video. I am a retired Electronics Tech and even though I am a senior I am still very tech savy but I don't really have interest in messing with firmware code etc. I am not sure I will even bother now with the upgrade if the print quality is OK as is. I have no interest what so ever in auto bed levelling and if I can't manually level the bed I won't be printing any more.

  • @ray4lsd

    "M104 S{material_print_temperature} ;Start heating extruder" is a bad choice, because some users tend to have a different layer 1 (or layer 0 in this case) temperature to fight adhesion problems. I would use "M104 S{material_print_temperature_layer_0}" instead.

    I've received an SV01 but no BLTouch yet, meanwhile to get ahead I have been absorbing information about how to make it all work.
    I had a couple of comments on your start gcode guide, which may or may not be right / relevant.
    1. I've read somewhere that since bed heating is a lot slower than nozzle heating, and that since a hot nozzle can 'dribble' or void, it may be best to get the bed up to temperature before starting to heat the nozzle.
    2. Given that the clearances are so fine, and some materials, especially aluminium, have quite a high coefficient of expansion, and things can distort slightly when expanding, I wonder if it would be better to let both get to temperature before doing the three point level.
    So, maybe it could be (a) set bed temperature and wait, (b) set nozzle temperature and wait, then (c) do the three point level. Then continue. Don't know if that might have any advantages?
    I also noticed you turned off the end stop with the soft end stop setting to get below the Z axis end point, but never turned it on again. Presumably you need to to avoid a future 'crash into the bed' - or maybe the turn off got cancelled automatically by some other command. Don't know.
    You said you still have bed adhesion issues - I've read good things about Magigoo, though I see there are cheaper alternatives.
    Keep up your excellent videos!

    @rcrdps8144 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am one of those folks who rarely needs to level, and was getting along just fine, until,.....
    I like to push limits. And while trying to print .1mm layers, I was trying to push the speed up to 75mm/s on the first layer like I do for the rest of the layers. The majority of the print would work, but there were one or two spots that wouldn't stick, and it seemed to consistently fail at those spots. So I'm assuming that's bed warp. I remember seeing in one of your videos where you show a graphical view of your bed's warp. So the ability to compensate for that warp is why I'm now installing the BLTouch. It's running the mesh probe right now. One of the reason's I came to this video was to check the wiring. They include an instruction paper that showed the red/blue wires swapped from what was on the connector. So I swapped them according to the diagram, and it wouldn't boot. So then I verified from your video that yours were swapped according to the diagram, so I swapped it back and it works. Also, appears they corrected the height issue as I was able to install it without washers and did not bottom out.
    A suggestion I have is to level after preheat. And that is likely why the firmware has multiple slots for bed mesh. That way you can have meshes that correlate to different temps. Especially for exotic materials that may be pushing your temp limits,.... like polycarbonate.

    • @rcrdps8144
      @rcrdps8144 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see I failed to thank you for these videos. Thanks for the detailed videos. I re-watched several of them last night as I troubleshot issues. I am now able to print an initial layer at .1mm and 75mm/s( pla,,...not tpu). So far my octopus print is going well. It's several layers up. Could not seem to get the initial layer to finish previously due to all of the small footprints.
      In reading, "M420 S" in your G code selects the last loaded mesh, so your next command with L0 is redundant assuming you're not changing meshes often. For me, I'm going to leave that selection to the machine( rather than L0 in Cura) so I can load them prior to printing if I end up developing temperature specific meshes. The M420 S command in the initial gcode would pick up the last one I load.
      Something I started doing while tuning Z offset, is to measure the first "purge" line it prints with calipers. Of course, now that I'm writing this, I see that the Cura startup gcode is actually setting that line height to .28,....not .3 that I was assuming. My hope is that in getting z height/offset correct from a measurement standpoint, I can tune "squish" via extruder settings or line width without effecting model height accuracy.

    You actually don’t need to add mesh load to the start gcode! There is an option im marlin source code for auto enabling it after homing, you just need to compile it by yourself(which is not complicated at all!) In addition, you also could reuse stored mesh after wach print (so you use bltouch only once in a while) just keep it saved in eeprom (you have it stored there anyway after first ubl)

    Are these machines now shipping with the silent board already installed? I can't tell from the website. Also, are they shipping with what they're calling the upgraded hotend kit? Seems like both of those should be standard by now, but I can't tell from the info on the website.
    I want to buy one, but I need to be able to print flexible filaments, and I don't want the noise. I already have a noisy printer, and it is annoying.

    Been waiting for your 3D printing journey. Order “My First” printer, Ender 3 a month ago. Still waiting for it to be shipped. I looked at the Sovol but they want to charge $189 for shipping. Hence Ender 3. Already ordered and received filament, BLtouch, SM dampers, glass bed. I will power it up and test print before any mods, just in case. Can not wait. But I have too.

    Hi, I love your Drone Videos.
    But please install a Mks or (better) Skr Board in your 3D Printer. There you can install some real GOOD Stepper Driver instand the freaking A4988 (like TMC2208). Thats amazing stuff. Like changing old BL_heli_S ESCs to good Stuff.
    All my respect for your work on Drones... (and i loved your Pizza Video too)

    Good morning. I have a SOVOL SV07 PLUS. I want to modify the inductive sensor for BLtouch. the Hotend board is already a 5-way connector. outside gnd in 5v gnd can you let me know. Just connect the sensor or would I have to enable the sensor inside the marlin?

    Seein your rolls of material in the background makes me think you should make a video about storing filament correctly -> drybox.

    • @michaelhughes6414
      @michaelhughes6414 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Storing filaments is a bit big deal in allot of places where I am it's really dry. I have 2 year old tpu that prints just fine. But where I use to live to weeks and tpu would be useless have to dry before I used it.

    @Joshua Bardwell, in the video you say that you don't really know how much is it worth to have automatic bed leveling. This is to 3D printers what Smart Audio is to quads. Do you want to keep doing manual bed leveling? You must love finding ways of pressing that button buried in your stack... 'Nuff said.

    How do you think the SOVOL SV-01 compare to the Ender 3V2? Also, just from looking around, it looks like the SOVOL uses a lot of creality parts? Even this board states that it is for the ender 5/CR10 series creality printers? But as usually is the case, is this a 32bit or an 8bit board, does not clearly state?

    I notice you are using Painter's Tape to keep the glass to the heating bed. Have you found the tape getting 'loose' after a while, or overall, is Painter's Tape a good alternative to clips? Thank you.

    Hi Joshua, I'm curious if this has happened to you (or anyone). I use my SV01 intermittently. For over a month, the BL Touch had no issues. I went about 2 weeks without using it and when I powered up to print something, I noticed it was printing in the air. After doing some digging, it looks like it forgot the Z-offset. I always power down the printer between uses since I rarely print every day and the settings were stored and reloaded, but then out of the blue, the were lost.
    I'm just wondering if this was something like sun spots and planetary alignment causing a glitch, or is this something that happens for some other reason?

  • @jimdavis3749

    Joshua, great video. Just purchased the Sovol and ordered the BLTouch. Would you consider making a video for beginners to include, a walk-thru for using Cura, start of print, gcode, STL files, how to download prints from ThingyVerse etc....... The reasoning for the request, once I setup the printer and did the bed leveling, then it was, what the heck do I need to do to start printing my first project. I fumbled thru and got the xyz cube printed, which came out excellent, however, it would have been beneficial to have some direction. Thanks!! New subscriber!!

    Josh need your help, I got a bl touch and silent mother but when I try to update firmware to 2.0 from sovol, I don’t know much/ hardly anything about computers, I get no connection to printer, I followed your steps and it’s still saying no connection no matter what I do, I know I’m connected with usb because I can see it on devices when I plug and unplug it, is there something I have to down load to the laptop to send the firmware, I’m at a lost and frustrated

  • @IAmTigore
    @IAmTigore 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    That is true. you dont have to level THAT much (you still have to sometimes if you dont have good springs)... what you have to do tho is to adjust Z axis offset here and there. I have to do it approx. every two weeks. Then you replace the bed surface... Z axis offset calibration, replace the nozzle... Z axis offset calibration, doing something with hot end carriage? Z axis offset calibration.
    BLTouch is not that hands off.

    • @ThePr0biker
      @ThePr0biker 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      remove springs, add a solid spacer instead, never adjust Z axis unless you are touching something else that affects it

    Link for silent board?
    What are you using for a bed surface these days? Is that just glass?

  • @BikeGuyFPV
    @BikeGuyFPV ปีที่แล้ว

    14:40 and there was one other thing that was missed with this step. The PID auto tune using Pronterface needs to be performed for the hot end and the bed, otherwise neither of them will work after the factory reset.

    Hi, i have install the silent board Yesterday, and i have a problem, the motor Is so hot (about 50 degrees Celsius), i asked to sovol for the correct vref value (1.18-1.20 for x and y, 1.58-1.60 for Z, and 1.38-1.40 for extruder). I have the same problem with stock board (about 40-45 degrees instead of 50). What Is the temperature of yours? Thanks, and Sorry for my bad english, i'm italian.
