I'm super excited to build a Beamtown Bullies deck. Been trying to build a "bad creatures" group-hug deck for a while. Plan is to give terrible creatures like Tempting Wurm and Hunted Wumpus to my opponents so I can play out my best stuff. Probs just gonna get singles though.
I am definately getting the Esper deck for the reprint value and number of cards included that I don't have in my colleciton, and the Jund deck for the fun mechanics of it. Possibly will get the Grixis deck and a few singles from the naya deck
I pre-ordered Obscura deck and will probably play with it a few times before taking it apart to build around Tivit, Seller of Secrets. On body protection with Ward 3 is great, and the fact that it makes 5 treasures on etb and on damage is also great, that's infinite turns with Time Sieve, which is why that card's price is spiking atm. I don't think I'll toss it in there because not trying to play that way personally. I wanted to build it around the voting mechanic but there are only 17 voting cards in Esper and not all of them are viable options for the meta I play in. So I have decided to focus more on the artifacts and added a bit of blink effects for repetition on the etb's the deck has. Brago, Yorion, Thassa, Conjurer's Closet are all in there. Sakashima and Spark Double are also there for doubled effects. With Academy Manufactor out it doesn't matter what people vote because you end up getting 5 treasures, 5 food and 5 clues. With effects like Filigree Angel you gain 45 life (this has gained me over a few hundred life easily with how many times I was blinking the Filigree Angel, so Aetherflux Reservoir could be useful as well?) , or Cyberdrive Awakener you'd have 15x Flying 4/4s if they are not summoning sick, or the same but without flying with Rise and Shine. Marionette Master or Nadier's Nightblade for some artifact artistocrats-y synergy also works well. I am considering keeping Kamiz in the deck since it would either allow for Tivit to pass through, or if he is in the clear, connect twice with double strike and netting more artifacts. I am really hoping that Wizards print more voting cards in the future because they'd be super fun to toss into the deck.
Love the voting line, and I think once you play the precon a bit you'll hone in on what you like too. I always love me some Marionette Master lines to take full advantage of all the artifact tokens you're making! Either way seems like a good pickup for ya and I like you have a long term plan for it as well. Hope it turns out better than you expect!
As your unofficial editor, I enjoyed the correction for the reading error. On screen I caught "Creatures spells are FAILry expensive" around 11:15 and at the end "Like and sub for MOVE content." Don't hate me! Ha ha! I completely forgot to look at commander decks for this set and your breakdown was top notch like always! I might give you crap but it's all in fun and I always look forward to the next MMM installment. 😊
I preordered a deck set almost 2 months ago for 164,99€ which comes down to pretty much $35 per deck under current exchange rates. I figured at that price point I can be pretty sure my investment pays off and it very much looks like it will do!
Naya Go-Wide Tokens is closest to my heart, but also something I’ve done numerous times. I’m more interested in building around Anhelo and the Casualty mechanic. I thought of getting the precon but after looking at the decklist it looks like I’ll be getting singles instead.
Yeah if you've already got a token deck it's tough to jump for a full precon of another. Anhelo and Casualty seem like a really fun gameplan so I think that or the singles are a great choice!
Band with MR. Defence Contractor is my fav. Goading in bant looks fun and I do not have goad deck yet. Probably not very powerfull. Aslo I will by Obscura mostly for Smuggle share.
there were about 10 people at my prerelease today. 3 of 4 people at the same table opened Ob Nixilis (one got it as their promo foil). Needless to say I got stomped today lol. BUT I got stomped a little less thanks to your prerelease guide! Really looking to get into commander so this was perfect since I have no idea which precon to use to get started.
Wow that is crazy so many people hit the same (busted) mythic, but happy to hear If my guide helped a bit! For precons I’d say go for the one that looks the most fun. Was there a family that you liked the play style of at your prerelease? Once you dive into commander you’ll be wanting to build all kinds of decks!
@@MountainManMagic So I ended up going to the evening event to double up after having so much fun haha. I swear these little boxes are blessed because I pulled Ob Nixilis. I went Obscura in the afternoon because as a new player I thought it'd be an easier strategy, compared to something like sacrificing creatures, but I didn't think about the amount of discarding necessary and threw away tons of valuable cards in hand. Evening event I said tossed caution to the wind and went Maestros. Pulled Ob Nixilis from a booster and lost my mind. Still got absolutely rolled obviously! But I was hoping for precon recommendations soon now that the full deck lists are out, but I might just go with Maestros and stick Ob Nixilis in there...
Yeah that's a tough pick! The Maestros deck does seem super fun and is pretty specific in what you'll want to play. I'd maybe go Anhelo to start, and then as you build your collection you'll be able to build a token deck soon enough.
Man did I get WRECKED on Prerelease night,... lol. I went 3 color with a splash of green. Not good, went back to 3, still No Go. Just for Shits & Giggles I put all my green & Red,... Smashed. A lot of people went 2 color splashing just the 3 color creatures.
I've seen a lot of people getting either 0 mythics or 2/3+ in kits too. I wonder if you were on the wrong side of the mythic counts (as I usually am too) and that didn't help your case. That's sealed though, sometimes you just wind up with a rough card pool and all you can do is smile and hope the next one makes up for it haha. Glad you still got to check it out. I missed out on em this go around, but hoping to do a makeup one soon when we're back from vacation.
great video.......at least now I know none of these are worth buying. Glad wizards put out a set as underwhelming as this one. now I can save a little more money towards the next double masters set which I'm sure will be ridiculously expensive.
I think those are great options, and provide a good amount of variety too! Try to see if they will play both as well and then they can see what they like/disklike about each and if nothing else it'll make them both better players.
Yeah I think that’s a great pick to start if you like tokens especially. Solid deck and most people I know have a token deck in their collection. As a new player I don’t think you can go wrong - gotta start somewhere!
I'm partial to the W/U/B - Connive deck and the B/R/G Blitz deck. The Connive one is often a bit more expensive as it has a move valuable card in it so that may be something to consider.
o wow those packs with the collector booster samples are $60+! no way yuck. Cabaretti is definitely going to be the easiest to play out of the box and the best balanced. Obscura has the highest value of card pieces, and Beamtown Bullies will probably be the biggest splash as a commander. They balanced these pretty well
2 Cards that should have not been part of the commander decks - Declaration in stone - Sever the Bloodline Both exiles a creature plus cards with the same name :/ like really? and they're both Rares!!!
Eh, $50 is a bit above average, but if it's about $5 more to help support a great place to play that premium could very well be worth it. Having lost an LGS once already, it is something I would gladly pay a small markup on to keep around. Each situation is different though, so I can see where a large markup is tough to swing.

Maestros Massacre is the one I'm most excited for.
That ones growing on me and it has a lot of nice singles in it too

I dont know if to get maestros or cabaretti, im a beginner and im leaning to the Kitt deck but the Ahhelo deck has so many good spells

As a starter, riveteers look more fun(attacking with big creatures that do something when they come onto play)

The Collector's Sample Booster is a great touch and has got me thinking about buying them all. Some of these new cards I think will be staples.
There are a lot of interesting new cards, and it will be interesting to see which do become those staples.
Maestros vs Cabaretti - thinking those two decks for my kids…a good two from these options to play vs each other?
