We have someone like him here in the Philippines. Pastor Quibuloy. He is currently being summoned by the senate. It’s a mess. This story is not yet over. One thing I can say is that. It’s something to hear or watch stories like this. But it’s a different thing when the believer is someone whom you’ve worked with. Their entire family is a believer. And when you say something about Quibuloy she will defend it using her life. She was not aggressive. That I will give to her. But her faith to him is something else.
How very real this all is, especially the inadequate punishments he faces and the belief of his supporters scares me. What a horrible person. It is so important to educate our young minds about cases such as this, thank you for the effort you put in, Megan!
We have the same here in Philippines. Quibuloy claims he is the son of God. He was also wanted by the FBI presently for child sex trafficking and is a close mentor of a powerful politician.
No matter how hard I think, I can’t stop thinking about the effort you do in each case is amazing!!! Thank you for doing this, Megan! I can listen to you anytime!! 😊❤

I love the way you narrate and present the cases, thank you so much for your hardwork! A lot of the cases you have covered have honestly left me absolutely speechless and shocked and frankly terrified. I had a recommendation - You should cover the Pradyuman Thakur murder case which happened some years ago in India, it absolutely shook the entire country.
This reminds me of the drama Save me where the cult leader known as Spiritual father has an eye on the female lead to make her the spiritual mother just for his dirty intentions and all their believers are so brainwashed into this. This was a bit similar to the drama. This is way too disgusting. Hope so the victims are doing better now.
That drama hit on several sensitive spots in Korea where people normally will try not talk about the religious cults that unfortunately are still a big thing in Korea.
That’s why it’s important to read the Bible by yourself… before people like him come and tell you whatever they want about it and trap you in their doctrine
This “messiah” doesn’t blow my mind…the “believers” is what blow my mind. It’s out of this world.. how could any mentally able human believe in such thing

Not a religion, a cult. I expect that on Judgement Day, the leader of JMS will probably hear: "Depart from me, I never knew you". Matthew 7:23 (I say probably because I don't want to be judgemental).
I've seen ex cult members speak of how they were lured and brainwashed and it's actually pretty scary, what starts as innocent friendship, relationship can easily influence someones believes.
Imagine you and your family being so poor with no resources and education. Then one day someone came along and provided you with all ur needs and befriend you and earn your trust. Imagine being a girl with low self esteem and no support background and get lured into a group promised with gift or work just to be forced. Some ppl love using the Bible to do their betting.
the girl in the documentary named maple mentioned that she was bullied in school and isolated. Her parents also did not have a good relationship which took a toll on her. They take advantage of people who are naïve and lost.
It’s definitely hard to wrap your head around, but the easiest, most applicable phrase I think that can convey this point is “you are not immune to propaganda”-as in, genuinely speaking, _anyone_ can be influenced by a targeted message if that targeted message tries hard enough. Like it’s easy for us to dismiss and laugh at ads, especially in the modern era when some ads are straight-up ridiculous, but hear a company’s name enough times, and you’ll remember it. See it and its popularity enough times, and you’ll be more likely to go to it. Get something you actually like targeted towards you, and you’ll be more likely to buy or support it. If the company has a catchy jingle (McDonald’s or Sleep Country etc) or a memorable gimmick (Wendy’s Twitter etc), you may even develop a fondness for it. Advertisements are thus a great example of propaganda’s potential, especially when it’s dressed up _not_ to look like propaganda. But to go in the direction of something even more in-line with what cults do-in terms of indoctrinate you into a certain group and their beliefs-one of the ones I can think of is the recent rise in right-wing rhetoric in the US. It’s easy to wonder why _anyone_ would ever believe in the bullshit right-wing talking heads spout, from vaccines causing autism to saying “Happy Holidays” being oppressive of Christianity because they’re not saying “Merry Christmas”… But if a singular person hears a message enough times, they’ll start to internalize it. It’s why so many news organizations have an agenda despite them supposedly being “objective”: for example, no American news agency seems capable of reporting objectively on China anymore as tensions between it and the US rise, and since China is an unknowable entity to those in the US, they find solace in the “answers” that American news agencies can seemingly provide. To expand this further, we see this being applicable to religion as well. It’s why religion is so influential on American and international politics, but also why so many smaller religions turn out to be cults in disguise. People join them because a) they claim to offer answers about the universe, such as where we go when we die, which is a comforting message. This leads to b) if the religious doctrine sounds good (eg “if you’re good, you will be rewarded”), doesn’t that suggest something you’d _want_ to believe in and strive for? And even more so with c) humans join religions because humans are _social_ creatures. We tend to crave community, and this can lead to individuals doing what the entire community is doing just so they don’t stand out. Cults exacerbate that because they portray themselves as extremely _close-knit_ communities, with a lot of their own social rules. As long as you follow said social rules, you can have a loyal community behind your back, which can be a comforting notion. This is also why some cults are capable of or allow horrific acts to happen. But evidently, sometimes community isn’t enough. A lot of us would look at a recruiter into a cult and express some amount of doubt, especially if the indoctrination feels obvious. This is why cults usually target those that are young, disenfranchised, and vulnerable, offering kindness and help and-again-a community to fall back on. Maybe you just ran away from a horrible, shitty home where no one has ever supported you and where you struggled to live comfortably to a whole new city, and you’re not yet even old enough to drink legally. You’re alone _and_ you’re having trouble finding a home or work, and then you run into someone who says they can give you a place to stay and food to eat. At this point, they claim they don’t even want anything in return. You’d thus probably think pretty highly of that person! Eventually, you grow closer to them and you listen to them talk more and more. So if they start describing their beliefs, you choose to listen because you want to be a good friend. And hell, hearing some of what they say…well, if you’re already disillusioned with the current system that put you in this situation, you’d be more open to a new system that your new friend(s) offer up as an alternative. Aka why live in a normal society that gave you nothing but trouble if you can live in a smaller, more close-knit society that provides you with everything you could ever need-including friends? All of this can fall under a cult-favourite tactic called _“love-bombing,”_ and it’s quite effective because if someone is nice to you, you’d generally want to be their friend. You come to trust them and believe in them, and as they slowly introduce you to the cult (probably via introducing cult members as more friends and then gradually positioning themselves as a community and resource and finally maybe a religion), you may not realize you’re in a cult-at least, not until it’s too late. It can be easy for the human mind to try and rationalize or justify the negatives of something they like, and it’s especially hard for us to bring ourselves to cut ties with people we think are our friends. This is why so many people stay in abusive relationships, but the same thing applies to cults. If you notice them starting to push weird ideas, you may not want to confront them about it. _They’ve been so nice to me,_ you’d think. _It’s just their beliefs, and they’re not harming anyone. I have to be tolerant, and they’re so tolerant and helpful to me…_ It would probably start out simple and believable anyway, like if they told you they believe in God or reincarnation, you would accept that. And if they manage to indoctrinate you, it’s easy to end up with idol worshipping (you see this constantly with celebrities; just recently, a Korean singer wore a shirt with a Nazi symbol on it and a lot of fans tried to rationalize it as “maybe she just didn’t know what it was!” Whether this is true or not isn’t the main point-the main point is that fans _were willing to offer excuses on the celebrity’s behalf_ because they like and thus want to trust and believe in said celebrity). So if you gradually fall deeper and deeper into the agenda of the cult and they eventually tell you, “That’s our leader; he’s a Messiah,” at that point you could be too far gone to even question it. _Especially_ if you’re being told, “The leader can save you from [insert negative thing here, whether it be the apocalypse or eternal damnation or what have you].” If you already believe in their rhetoric, you’d come to believe if they say they have a solution to the bad things inside their rhetoric. It’s also why so many people join MLMs aka pyramid schemes, which can be so similar to cults in many ways. Or even how we fall for capitalism: because we’re told that the system works; that if you just try hard enough, you can achieve success; that even though you start as an underdog, you can get to the top. Supposedly, the MLM has provided you with the resources to make money. Now it’s just up to _you_ to make good use of those resources. MLMs promise financial gain. So even though you may struggle with peddling MLM products to your friends and family, especially when you’re told you need to try and get them to join the MLM too, it’s easy for you to justify it and keep going just because you think you can earn money from this and probably rise up the ranks. That’s why people don’t want to tax the rich-because within capitalism, what if one day you could become rich too? Then you’d _hate_ the idea of being taxed extra! And it’s also probably why so many people admire billionaires even when they make poor decisions like Elon Musk. Because you look at their financial far-beyond-comfort comfort and you think, _Man, they must be so smart! They have to know what they’re doing-how else could they be so wealthy!?_ People would think the same of cult leaders, who are usually passionate and charismatic and speak well (this is how people fell for Hitler, but even Trump too). Like you legit cannot criticize Elon Musk without his fans coming for you. And for a less subjective example, just look at the rise of Nazism. We literally have a textbook example of a cult: a charismatic, passionate, and well-spoken man comes along who claims to have the answers to why the people are suffering and a solution on how to end that suffering. The people, who have been disenfranchised and without _any_ money and thus without food etc since the end of the First World War, want to believe this man. They no longer believe in the current political system nor the other nations that put them in this situation (because of the Treaty of Versailles). So if this man is saying he knows what to do and his ideas do seem to be working out well, people begin to join him. And as the group grows, more and more people will join because again, humans want to check out trends, believe that the majority know what they’re doing, and to belong in a community. So as you can see, from relationships to religion to ways of making money to politics to ideology…humans have a tendency to try and spread their agenda and to fall for other people’s agendas. Cults combine numerous strategies to guarantee this happens. A lot of it still comes across as baffling, but humans can be very, very simple creatures. It’s surprising how susceptible we are to propaganda, all because we crave belonging, community, answers, kindness, resources, and more.
They Target people who have lost everything in their life. Those people see no hope in their living and try to change their life around by joining these religious cults
Well, not just Myeong-sok, but it seems like all sexual molesters in Korea only got short sentences. Look at their entertainment industry, lots of sexual molesters were not sentenced and punished properly. I wonder what's with Korean's law system when it comes to sexual assaults and rape.

We have our own version of this disgusting piece of work here in the Philippines, and is even on FBI's mostwanted list, Quiboloy. But our govt isnt handing him over bec it's a trash govt. I haven't begun watching this series yet, but it's next after I finish "The Glory" based on a true Korean horrendous events. There's another Korean crime channel I follow and it seems bullying and disrespecting women even here in the 21st century is very prevalent. I for one feel weak minded people get trapped in a cult. It's sad that these kinds of people used Christian beliefs to satisfy their greed, perversion and twisted selfish desires. I hope that these perpetrators (including their high ranking officials inside the cults) will be brought to justice, either for life sentence or best death penalty. I cry out for the victims and pray for their healing. Thank you Megan for these crime documentaries and may your program continue to be successful. I dont know how they can be just left from the prison , like really 10 years of prison for raping so many women , im so fed up with the laws of this world , damnn
similar case happened in india regarding ram rahim so called baba cult but once his truth came out despite and in 1 or 2 rape cases he was sentenced for 20 years and fined 30 lakhs despite his followers helping him...i am surprised to see that after so many attempts of rapes and all types of henious behaviour and illegal activities add on he was only given a 10 years sentence and so after coming out he repeated the same . i am in no way comparing the crimes but i personally think the sentence was not as strict as it should have been. People should urge for a strict laws regarding this.
I mean no offense by this at all, but stories like this, which are unfortunately very common in religion and religious circles, are the reason why I left at a young age. To go to such lengths to show your religious devotion is beyond wild to me, and the fact that this disgusting man still had supporters and followers, likely due to his religion and beliefs, is saddening. He clearly abused his power and took advantage of people’s religious devotion and ignorance.
as a christian honestly you make such a good point. which is why, people who are practicing in their religion should really read and analyze their religious texts by themselves, because people who followed this nuisance were uneducated and couldn't practice their religion themselves because with religion you are dedicating yourself into believing something that is physically not there, so individuals should be very careful what to trust.
What hurts more is why do so many believers help him out, and he has the audacity to repeat his crimes again after prison I thought he would've changed
I do believe that Jeung Myeong Seok is the Korean counterpart of Tony and Susan Alamo. Like Jeung Myeong seok, tony Alamo after his wife Susan also ran a similar church to Jeung Myeong Seok out in California in the late 1960s before relocating their chirch to Alma Arkansas in 1975. Then after Susan Alamo died of cancer in 1982, Tony Alamo, like Jeung Myeong seok went on the run twice first in 1991 for tax evasion and in 2008 for child abuse as like Jeung Myeong seok, tony alamo was also declaring underaged girls in his church as his wives. Unlike Jeung Myeong seok who served 10 years in jail, Tony Alamo spent 4 years in jail for tax evasion before being released in 1998 on good behavior with the condition that he return his wife Susan’s body to his stepdaughter, and was given a miserable life sentance in 2008 for child abuse before dying in a prison hospital in North Carolina in 2017 at aged 82. The moral of the story of Jeung Myeong Seok and Tony and Susan Alamo is “If you are going to go out and screw with the IRS or in Korea The NTS by calling yourself a church to avoid paying taxes, and if you are also going to go out and screw with God by declaring underaged girls in your church to be your wives, just remember one thing. The taxman does NOT screw around! God does NOT screw around!”
This is a shocking story that it exists in a country so developed. Such cults are usually more common in less educated and culturally underdeveloped countries, usually tribal communities or population including some Amish communities in America like the infamous case of a cult leader who was involved in the same type of activities with multiples wives believing he was the messiah or something, or at least that's how he wanted to portray himself as.
Respect for the report who documented this and brought it to light. Cults are scary and disgusting but wht is more terrifying that high ranking officers were believers too. No wonder why he could live freely.
OK. I only watched three minutes before my prior comment. Now I wish that they had stricter sentences for rape and RICO (organized crime, which is what this cult seems to have mestastistized into) in Korea.

religion can truely be powerful...... it can be used as a tool by politicians, leaders, and common folk to gain power easily. power is not meant to be used to suppress to good but to spread it
@@riaainapur1435 @ This is exactly the same modus operandi as Uncle Xi Jin ping is doing in his cult. All other religions are forced to study and chant every morning Xi Jin ping Thought from his Book or Bible.
I thought the same thing
I thought the same too.. i couldn't sleep properly after watching the drama..its utterly disturbing creepy...cults should be banned all over the world
Thanks to this drama I’m so aware with cult things and shit. This stuff is never okay and it’s sad how people are stuck in these situations
@@avi62810 Exactly💯💯 that’s why people shouldn’t blindly believe anything
That drama hit on several sensitive spots in Korea where people normally will try not talk about the religious cults that unfortunately are still a big thing in Korea.
Once a sex offender, will always be an offender. Rape laws in S. Korea needs to be reformed. And more mental health awareness on kids today.

Its just perfect to be honest
Yes please don't put music
This docuseries was sooooo disturbing. Thanks for covering it!
It’s scary how anyone can be a JMS believer, it’s like a real life game of mafia that never ends
That’s why it’s important to read the Bible by yourself… before people like him come and tell you whatever they want about it and trap you in their doctrine
I just love how well-spoken Megan is.
This “messiah” doesn’t blow my mind…the “believers” is what blow my mind. It’s out of this world.. how could any mentally able human believe in such thing
People don't even know the meaning of Messiah, forget about it they don't even open their Bible and read, only listen to pastor/father
See the first step of any cult leader/father to brain wash the people and make them his followers so they do that using several techniques
Cases of India:
1. Sheena Bora m***** case
2. The Tarakeswar affair (1874)
3. The m***** of ghosts - Ram Bahadur Thapa (1959)
4. The Nanavati m***** case (1959)
5. THE STONEMAN K*******
6. KOLKATA'S HITCHCOCK HOUSE(this is the most scandalous and notorious)
TH-cam is flagging my comment, so i had to use stars 🐥
Not a religion, a cult. I expect that on Judgement Day, the leader of JMS will probably hear: "Depart from me, I never knew you". Matthew 7:23 (I say probably because I don't want to be judgemental).
I never understood how people fall victim to cults like these.
It’s easy to wonder why _anyone_ would ever believe in the bullshit right-wing talking heads spout, from vaccines causing autism to saying “Happy Holidays” being oppressive of Christianity because they’re not saying “Merry Christmas”…
But if a singular person hears a message enough times, they’ll start to internalize it.
I have to be tolerant, and they’re so tolerant and helpful to me…_
It would probably start out simple and believable anyway, like if they told you they believe in God or reincarnation, you would accept that.
Blinded by so called "they will be saved" or "being God's bride"....What have this world become? Religion is only a guide for all to rely on but to many, they just come up with their own stories and beliefs. And yet some still fall for it. Thanks for sharing all these stories Megan! Some of the Korean stories you have shared is even in many of the Korean Drama and movies that I have watched.
We have our own version of this disgusting piece of work here in the Philippines, and is even on FBI's mostwanted list, Quiboloy. But our govt isnt handing him over bec it's a trash govt.
"People" like them ought to be thrown in prison and left to suffer, using religion to commit crimes and using its brainwashed members as shield.
Victims almost always don't get justice and that is just tragic.
Thank you again for this episode. It's very thorough and in-depth, that even if this is the 1st time I have heard of this case, I got the most important pieces of the crime/scandal.
Calling out Quiboloy is not a good move darling. Be careful what you post here because your account is under google and can be tracked that you might be held accountable due to your unsubstantial accusations. Good luck on the coming days @sammiechuu
OMG 😱 I just searched it today and found out that Quiboloy’s KJC is the same as JMS this is so shocking to me 😢 I never imagined that we have this kind of cult in our country, now I know why Manny Pacquiao turned him down.

Amazing work as always, this is a really scary case, the fact that this man has all that power and protection and how he has been doing this for many years, I hope all those women get the justice they deserve, what a disgusting individual that man is, glad that the documentary is being shown by Netflix so many people will get to know about this.

I was approached by some cult member while i was on a holiday to seoul pre covid! I turned down the bible study cause i was travelling but i can tell they pretty much just approach any tall slender girl
Thank you, Megan, for exposing this case and keeping us informed. In a way, you help to protect parts of the world that are unaware of the atrocities that perpetrators have committed and are using religion to continue those crimes. I am truly sorry for all the victims and their family members.
Thank you for this. When i watched the documentary oh my god, it was so traumatizing i still have some clear sentences of the details of the case in my head, it's haunting. Could you do all of the people featured on the show besides JMS?
I haven't begun watching this series yet, but it's next after I finish "The Glory" based on a true Korean horrendous events. There's another Korean crime channel I follow and it seems bullying and disrespecting women even here in the 21st century is very prevalent. I for one feel weak minded people get trapped in a cult. We have to be advocates for ourselves and be on alert ALWAYS. Because there are always creepy predators out there ready to pounce.

I'd be honest it was just a few hours ago I came across your channel and all the cases you spoke about and covered have blown my mind.Thank you so much for such informative videos and hard work as the cases are so terrifying it takes alot to even talk about and here you are covering them my hats off to you🙏🤝
I do not understand how these cult people are able to convince so many people to join them even after all the skeletons are out of the closet for everyone to see.
Trump won popular vote (first time a republican won popular vote in 20 years) and he is a 19 times convicted felon. (Which he will likely pardon) Everything is a cult. (In my opinion) health care workers, the judicial system, democrats and Republicans, bloods and crips, n'sync and the backstreet boys. Don't you think people deserve to be given a 274,637,282 chance?
This was an amazing insight of the cult which is shocking. Thank you for documenting this cult which aired on Netflix. Very informative 😊💕
I just discovered your channel over a month ago and I'll I can say is that you're a very wonderful narrator and I can't stop watching your videos. Thank you for your hard work Megan and team for always giving us such high quality videos!

As a Christian, I am very upset about this and how a so-called "pastor" changed the words of the Bible and brainwashed innocent people using this.
this man is working for demons.
I guess stupidity and narcissism, cuts across nationalities..
What's even more scary is that people still fall for obvious scams like these today.
they target very vulnerable people :(
I have NEVER understood how people get wrapped up into cults UNLESS they had been part of it their whole lives, as children so they knew nothing else as god knows their parents would censor everything & probably homeschool.

Didn't the US have the same thing? Using religion to have sex with its members although the leader is already in prison, I think it's still rampant
This is what the nuns of the church face even today.

I hope that more people will watch this because this is an eye opener to all that we be vigilant in believing. Have a good day :)
This just shows how powerful belief can be and why a lot of politicians and " religious " people invest so much on it. If hope is humanity's greatest strength, then belief is our most dangerous trait.
They always say be careful of what you wish for, but I say be careful of what you believe in

i hope videos will be uploaded atleast 2 times a week.. upload in this channel always makes my day..
It's really astonishing and crazy how many victims fall into the cult
similar case happened in india regarding ram rahim so called baba cult but once his truth came out despite and in 1 or 2 rape cases he was sentenced for 20 years and fined 30 lakhs despite his followers helping him...i am surprised to see that after so many attempts of rapes and all types of henious behaviour and illegal activities add on he was only given a 10 years sentence and so after coming out he repeated the same . i am in no way comparing the crimes but i personally think the sentence was not as strict as it should have been. People should urge for a strict laws regarding this.

Thank you so much for the video 😇😇😊😊
Your voice is sooo good and addictive unnie💕💕💕
