We were car shopping this car, and a Model Y for my wife. Ended up with the BMW. Quality on the BMW was just on a different level. Ride quality, interior quality, and interior noise, far superior. The Model Y felt more spacious, better charging network, but that wasn’t enough to persuade us. The vehicle is used for around town, work driving anyway, so charging at home is more than enough. She’s happy, I’m happy.

The only benefit Tesla has right now, is that the BMW doesn't qualify for the ~7k state electric tax rebate because the car isn't built in America

The charging network is paramount. You won’t feel it until you do a roadtrip. Solid choice and with that said i’m growing tired of my Y. Happy wife happy life haha. Thanks for stopping by the channel!

I'd take the BMW over the Tesla any day of the week because of Tesla's horrible build quality and cheap interiors. However, the real comparison is to the Model 3, not the Model Y. The Model Y is a crossover and this is a sedan. The BMW is also more expensive. I think the Tesla buyer is not the same as the BMW buyer to be honest. One is a luxury car and the other isn't.

@@WizLovesCars Do most people take 300+ mile trips in their car very often? I think the answer is "no." The use case is charging in your garage, not at a charging station. Personally, I'd just rent an ICE vehicle for a couple of days if I had to take a long trip.

Nice graphics in your video, Wiz. We're a couple with no kids, so this car with the seats folded down is the normal mode. That makes it ridiculously large hatchback. Ours is the eDrive40 w/18" wheels and 225 tires like you've shown here, for maximum efficiency. Honestly, this car is underappreciated, easily beating its EPA numbers at least before you subject it to freezing temps. And if you are in cold weather, it's got a heat pump standard. It is an efficiency monster, doesn't fall into trap of being an SUV or a styling mess for EV drag sake. Instead the car in the mode you showed (non M50) with RWD is what BMW is traditionally known for. Our eDrive40 is TOO fast with 335 hp. I'd give up much of that speed for even more efficiency, though I'm not sure that's part of the calculus. The eDrive35 is plenty for most people, as even when you drive far, you tend to hop between many DC fast charging stations.
We wish our car with the standard (non active) suspension didn't have the body roll and nose dive it does, but compared to other cars, it's a pretty refined and relatively capable suspension setup for a 4700 lb. car. One qualification when choosing our car was can you sleep in it, and the answer surprisingly is yes, it has a giant cargo space with seats folded. If you want your cargo hidden, in seats up mode, the rear hatch space is well covered.
Would I prefer the car was 2000 lbs like the sport car we gave up to move to this? Sure. But the i4 is a car that everyone could live with, has excellent low sporty seating, avoids the Tesla hot mess that is Elon, and BMW is working to build these with sustainability in mind. My e-bike is a hell of a lot better for sustainability, but in a car dependent world, this fills the gap until we build electric rail everywhere. We chose Sunset Orange because white, gray, and black cars are effing boring. And we got the red interior you showed here, so our car is blood orange color scheme, which sounds like it would be garrish, but it actually looks great.

My son in law has one. His company provided it. I rode with him in it last night. The Acceleration blew my mind, the display screens and internal car handling aspects exceeded my expectations. No heads up display on his, but a very cool EV

Great video! I love my M50, the performance in the M50 is a rocket ship and would definitely make you enjoy the acceleration. I agree with most of your comments. Interestingly the M50 actually has a conventional gear shifter. I'm glad I don't have shifter in the 35. Great review!

I must have a lemon. The technology and adaptive cruise control in my i4 is no where near as good as my model 3. In fact, it has randomly caused my car to suddenly and without reason pull strongly to one side or the other and almost into other vehicles. The Tesla charging network and experience as a whole is far superior. The safety features are also not nearly as good as other car brands. I like the car but it needs work.

    • @WizLovesCars

That cat has the ugliest front end I've ever seen. Has a pig nose grill. You have to throw a license plate on there just for it to look average.
The interior looks terrible with cheep plastic and fake leather.
The gauges look terrible. I would like to have just a simple gauge. Not that hexagon type drivers gauge or the second screen where you have to navigate through many screens just to get to a setting you want.
Plus it drives horribly. It bounces and you feel every Nick and bump in the road.
I would maybe pay 300 a month for that car. Nothing more
