Today we look at the Fish Lover, Flayn! - เกม
I don't think I've ever done anything with Flayn that wasn't immediately slotting her into Dancer or making her into a Byleth backpack. Which weirdly makes her one of my most used units while also never feeling like I never use her.
The Flayn emperor herself. The first character i really connected with. She just is so interesting with her unique way of speaking and her connection to the church while being fed up with her guardian.
I like Dark Flier Flayn since she is one of very few Dark Fliers that can actually utilize Transmute. With her high Resistance stat she can comfortably bait enemy magic users and get a neat +4 stats.
Personally I prefer Holy Knight Flayn. It suits her theme and powers up her faith spells. I only play on Hard mode though.
@@anthonyschlott916white tomefaire only works on attack spells though, so for flayn it only affects nosferatu. Although, the magic stat boost does increase her damage somewhat.

However, you still should have mentioned her potential as a Dodgetank Great Knight.
Since Miracle is so reliable, you can definitely make her one of your tankiest units.
I like Flayn when I'm playing Golden Deer. The house has a ton of tools already but is lacking in Rescue, Restore (unless you're making Leonie a mage) and to a lesser extent Fortify. She just kinda fit nicely in a utility mage role.

I love using flayn in my warp rescue dance teams.
Give all the exp to byleth. Then have flayn on an important map rescue him forward. Warp a warper and then slay the boss immediately. It's fun especially on new game plus where its way better

I didn't even realise there was a magic lance in the game at all. I saw the Arrow of Indra in Three Hopes, but I've never encountered it or anything like it in Houses.
I think it’s also very worth noting her immediate access to Pegasus Knight, both for Darting Blow to help patch up her fairly bad speed and also because she has might supports with Byleth and Seteth, so being able to fly without any level or tutoring to be an adjutant makes her one of the best adjutants in the game, both for ease of flight and the strength of both units she increases damage for.
Flayn also is perhaps the best Res Tank in the game, with her base 50% Res Growth on top of class growth bonuses and her frankly incredible base Res, especially with Dark Flier’s +3 Res modifier and Transmute giving +3 to all stats after combat against a Mage. She is further helped here by 3Hs mechanics, particularly in that enemy mages will be weighed down a fair amount by their spells which can help to patch up her poor speed in fights against them. For example, a Flayn that instantly reclasses into Mage then promotes at Lvl 20 into Dark Flier will average 23.95 Res, while Ch11 Dark Mages have 33 might with Miasma. Add on the Nuvelle Fliers Corps for +7 Res at max level and Transmute and she takes no damage from them. With any Talismans obtained and her 60% growth she should be able to maintain strong levels of bulk against mages, and if she does take any damage the Caduceus can help to patch her up passively.
If going down the Dark Flier route, if Flayn spends any time in the midgame as an Adjutant, perhaps to master Pegasus Knight or Archer, she may want to equip an Axe to get to C Rank, because then she gets to gamble the certification for Wyvern Rider to easily give her a nice strength and defense bonus, both to let her take the stray physical attack and to not be as weighed down by her tomes, or to fix her HP and Speed if below their averages. Bolt Axe Wyvern could also be funny but obviously Annette does this better and it’s best to go Dark Flier to retain Rescue access

I like putting her into war claric because it is funny to me even if I have to use more resources to get the certification. I even had Dedue teach her in the art of bonk and while i have done this on normal difficulty I still think it is possible on maddining.
I like using Flayn she is techically the only playable unit that can't loose the White Heron Cup, While her classes are heavily limited she can bring somethings to the table and she is probably one of the more helped from DLC since not only she gets the Nuvelle Flier Gambit,she also can use the Anna's Gambit Secret Merchant that is basically a flying Stride Gambit since if I remember correctly is the same auth rank (B) and same with Yuri's that bost both magic and avoid, Flayn's Restore can eliminate annoying debuffs like Banshee, the seals skills, raddle from gambits, while niche to some builds with that spell and Fortify she can gain some levels quickly since with those spells she gains more exp unlike with the others weapons ( at least Maddening) , she can do some silly and quircky things like being a Trickster to male protect tanks, Pneuma Gale and the Aura Knuckles, and even to some degree Falcon Knight since she gets Frozen Lance at A rank lances and C rank you can equip the Levin Sword so it cab be some degree in investment

The growths on screen are when she's in the Priest class. None of her other classes that are healing-ish based have particularly significant differences in those areas though.

Flayn is not Seteth's sister. She is his daughter. Also those aren't their real names. Also also she is a 1000+ year old dragon in the form of a young woman. She and Seteth are two of the four saints of the church of Seiros and children of the goddess.
Flayn's Frozen lance has 2 bond supports in both Byleth and Seteth. She can also use her personal ability to give them extra bulk, heal them up too; also give _them_ the bond support damage boost too. Canto Flayn rules. It even enables for you canto rescue/reposition/trading/healing/chipping flexibility. Her biggest constraint is that her 1-range ally boosts are extremely weak to archers and 1-2 range melee weapons, requiring likely both a guard adjutant and a silver shield just to allow 1 projectile enemy into the combo.
I can confirm that Falcon Knight Flayn is very, VERY fun, if you can get her some nice lances and you're willing to pump a strength booster or two into her. But if you want to make use of her spell list, then I'd say to either go Gremory or Dark Flier if you have the DLC.

My first ever complete run was with Falcon Knight Flayn. She was pretty bad until she got Frozen Lance (all the way at rank A?) and then she was excellent. She still had a use as a Mage counter before that point so she still had some use.
some of my favourite tech with training flayn is that because of how i play by the time i get her my byleth is normally behind when it comes to class masteries and exp, so i can get her to master monk, mage and pegasus as byleth masters archer, brigand and pegasus while she's giving byleth extra damage with their might support. you can also use this time to train axes on her which allows her to reclass to wyvern in the mid game which literally just fixes her speed for the rest of the game especially if you're using her as a caster (i find using her as an anti-mage dark flier abusing transmute incredibly fun)
only downside of that is that her authority kind of dies so i tend to have her as my main sauna target most of the time lol 18:34
Unfortunately, I can never justify using her because I just have trouble finding a spot for her in my already crowded roster and I feel that I have too much invested in others at the time of her joining. However, I always make her an armored knight guard adjutant because it looks fantastic!! 😂😂
she can go to ch7 as a monk, she doesnt attack there since all the enemies are far and just heals/rescues (she should have it by then by just auto wexp given during lectures), and priest is a waste of time, so by the time she certifies for mage she's done with monk
before going deep to investing in lance to get frozen lance, perhaps investing a bit to certify to wyvern is worthwhile? base str getting up to 18 means wind and fire's weight are completely negated, and cutting gale only weighs her down by 2 points, she has an axe neutrality and will level up flying if she uses peg (as adj) or dark flier
I think Flayn has the strongest Frozen Lance in the game and it can actually scale into the late game nicely because of her super high Magic and Dex. It’s a shame that it’s kind of awkward to get her to A rank in lances soon enough to benefit from it though.
Personally, I find Flayn does best focusing on Faith to get to Fortify as soon as possible to start power leveling her (not too hard as she often joins with C+ or B Faith) Fortify earns a ton of experience if it can heal two or more people consistently. She still provides some utility with Rescue in the meantime and once she hits Bishop and eventually Gremory she can get 4 fortify uses. I understand the argument that there is plenty of healing in 3H, but the point here is exploiting the action economy to gain levels faster. Full party healing is kind of a byproduct. She cannot snowball as well as Mercedes in this regard, but it’s still easy to get her 5-7 levels ahead of everyone else with regular play and fortify allows you to make some risky and aggressive pushes and then get healed up in time for the enemy phase. You have to be mindful of healing vengeance characters, but Flayn does the most utility work in Golden Deer anyways and they don’t naturally have a vengeance character. Get her a Levin sword and she’ll start killing things as Level advantages with 70% magic growth makes her hit quite hard. You can even move her over to Mortal Savant late game if you want to lean into damage.
If I already have Mercedes then I either take her down the awkward frozen lance route or just make her a flying adjutant for Byleth/Seteth and she does great there.
i feel like just putting her as byleth adj will get her more levels, also getting faith from B to A is not that easy, and takes away from training her reason/auth which start at a fat E
Just make sure not to accidentally heal Claude if you’re using a Vantage/Wrath build on him (which a lot of people do)
Fortify's main use is taking up the A rank slot so Flayn can get rescue at B instead
3:57 if you think about it the most use from this skill could be in Azure moon in THAT stupid battle but alas beside the point if you really like character there not so much reason to rise her cuz there will be much better units at this point.
I recommend either Claude or Sylvain's next.
What do you think about a sniper Flayn with magic bow? using hunters volley to patch up the poor speed?
Should be fine, Magic Bow snipers will always be reasonably effective, although it can be awkward to get up and running before you get the dark merchant.

So, the answer is to make her Dancer. Yeah I kinda saw that coming. I've looked over her kit so many times, and each time, I came to the conclusion that literally everyone else can do her job better.
Obviously Great Knight is her best class 🙄
I did this once. Pumped her full of ambrosia and Rocky Burdock and had a Res + Def tank who could utilize frozen lance and physical weapons

Flayn being auto recruited is actually pretty big for her. Not needing to get ranks can be a very helpful trait. She is going to be one of the best utility units in my upcoming AM Skip Only LTC. So if you want to see Flayn as a top tier unit stay tuned for the mid to late game of that run.

A little bit of DLC (forced Aux skip glitch). I’m doing it with no Explore, No Seminar, No Paralogues other than the 1, 2, and 4 Explores (which are forced.)

I’m just here to cast my vote for the worst unit in the game. I actually like her character and her support with Setith is one of my favorites but as a unit she’s just terrible. Straight up unplayable in Crimson Flower and Constance is better than her in every way, but she is dlc so eh… just make her a flyer and stick her on Setith for that might bonus on swift strikes.
