Manulea is such a weird unit the devs gave her the assassin class for when she shows up in the sliver maiden paralogue as a enemy
It feels like she was built to be the perfect template of a dancer class (it even fits the lore) and then they don't let her be one.
I think she’d be an average one at best… definitely not a perfect template. Dancer can use reason magic… and she has a bane. Also dancers often get left behind so like physic… She doesn’t get it. Think you’re starting with the lore and trying to force the shoe to fit
I've just finished all these videos after the Raphael one came up as recommended and they're so great. I'd love to see a Dorothea one bc I feel everyone's opinion is dancer and forget about her

Manuela makes way more sense if Falcon Knights were built like Awakening/Fates ones where they can use staves aka faith magic - I'm going to use her as a war cleric I think for my current run

Watching this and the prior Raph video, someone mentioned Constance and got me thinking why no one talks about how valuable she is in maddening mode. Especially compared to Manuela, since she can really make good use of Bolting with the highest magic in the game (tied with Lys). I’d love to see a video about her
I love using Constance to basically snipe batallion having enemies before I send in a dodge tank who might not have the best charisma stat - stacking black tomefaire + fiendish blow + nuvelle fliers is +23 right off the bat
It’s worth mentioning that Manuela as a utility faith caster is in the highest exp gain archetype in the game on maddening. Especially if you are taking full advantage of gambits and as a result often enemies never even get a chance to attack which makes healers far lower in the exp department and also kinda useless. This gives Manuela a weird niche as exp farm for actually strong units as sticking a unit in her as a adjutant and using ward silence warp ect can get a unit 4 or 5 levels. This can be great for getting units that you only use situationally or only on maps with above average deployment slots some much needed exp or class experience without putting a unit that’s weak in your roster as Manuela can usually do something due to warp. She also fits well into blue lions as mentioned earlier utility ( mostly warp but silence has its moments vs dark Knights and siege magic users) is generally what you want out of a faith caster and Mercedes has none which kinda is unfortunate. Though one could certainly argue that you’d be better off grabbing lindhart instead to replace Mercedes.
While I'm aware this video series only considers New Game, dragging Manuela into Mortal Savant, while EXCRUCIATING due to the Reason bane, and handing her the Thunderbrand with a Crest item? I dunno if it's cause I play on NormCas or what, but she was pretty good, and a lot of fun.
I'm never going to forgive IS for the Reason bane though. Especially not when Dorothea's Faith bane is a budding talent. They could've done something funny there with the opera house girls.
It makes me so sad seeing how bad she is bc she’s one of the better liked characters, and I’m among that company
She definitely could be better but at least with Warp she can play a functional role in basically any team if you did want to use her!
I love this type of videos. I think talking, analysing and theorizing about the game is as much fun as playing it. I hope you'll keep making them. (Also I'd love to see a video on one of the ashen wolves)

I've used in almost all of my runs, I didn't really like her the first time I played the game, but after I watched some of her supports she became one of my favorite characters in the game. I was expecting another Camilla type of character, but Manuela was actually written very well. Her biggest downside as a unit is her disadvantage in Reason, similar to how Hapi has a disadvantage in Faith, it hurts Manuela much more though, considering she won't be able to do meaningful damage until around chapter 10 when she learns Bolganone, giving her the Levin Sword is also I good idea. She has a very decent spell list, Bolting and Warp being the biggest standouts, Silence can also come in handy as well.
That's the longest "she sucks" I've listen to in a while

Bishop into potential Gremory is probably best. I do like her a lot in Trickster though. It’s very low investment and I value Foul play a lot and find it super helpful in almost every map. Having 1 warp and infinite little warps is comparable to 2 warps for me personally. The occasional hexblade when the moment arises is nice too.
I know Commander stops statuses but isn't it Unsealable Magic that prevents Silence?
Her personal skill mostly comes up in ironman runs where getting from a let's say 7% chance to get critted to 0% is never spat on. That number dropping is the only feedback you need.
Good on you to make the point about Warp range not being very important. Really what matters to me the most is early they get the spell (which to her credit, she has that going for) but also what else they can do besides being a Warp bot. Reducing crit chances and occasional Silence is nice but when you look at Lysithea with her damage output or Lindhardt and Hapi with their kits loaded with utility, Manuela finishes dead last in that category for me.
She definitely feels like a one-trick pony that other ponies can do better and that what hurts Manuela the most (well unit-wise anyway).

I hate how even I can't really justify Manuela. I use her all the time, because she is one of my favorite characters in the game, and she has only let me down once (when I used her as a Gremory and she got magic screwed). Her personality and appearance make her a great fit for Gremory, but her personality also justifies her Reason bane, which is just her biggest downfall. I also think I know what they were aiming at by giving her so many support spells, but having the school's physician not be one of the greatest healers in the game is such a missed opportunity.
All in all, I think that Manuela is in the same boat as Ingrid and Lorenz - a unit that is supposed to be a mixed attacker. But whereas Lorenz gets a better spell list and some useful combat arts, and Ingrid has amazing avoid, Manuela is just so-so. I think the Trickster class is the best, as she still gets to use one Warp per map and can focus on her (magic) sword attacks, which will ultimately be her biggest source of damage.
I think Manuela would've made a great Dancer, due to her boon in swords, high Charm and access to Bolting. It's a shame the teachers can't become Dancers.
playing through CF for the first time rn and I have her as a Trickster and with that speed she makes for an ok frontline healer who can even deal the little bit a damage needed to kill another unit
I made her into a trickster to add to her already high speed and alright dex. I also benefited alot from the class's stealth ability. The ability to sneak pass enemies is a little underrated.
One really good boon for Manuela compared to other mages is that she's actually really fast and flexible as a unit. If you go peg knight you aren't losing alot since her str and mag growth are the same. Once you get darting blow and then trickster she'll be a very fast mage and or levin sword user. Not to mention if you can, do gamble the promotion so you can go Mortal savant to get swordfaire and do even more damage with the levin sword and still have magic. Plus with her decent strength she won't suffer as much from the magic weight as most other magic users meaning she can double maddening enemies after a few speed growths. Or at least prevent doubles. The issue is her reason magic list is awful so Levin sword+ basically becomes your new thoron. Bolting is neat and her white magic always has uses especially warp
If I recall correctly, and I could be wrong, from a few of Manuela's Supports and NPC dialogues, it seems like narratively-speaking, she's not actually got much training as a Magical Healer, rather she was trained as a Conventional Medic. That's why her skills are so wonky, it's Gameplay-Story Integration around the fact that she never had proper magic courses. So when you get her in-game, you're literally having to give her the training she never got in the first place.
II appreciate videos like this...considering a Church and Knights of Serios only run...on maddening with only a few benefits which is the Lord so I dont get softlocked. The only route that u can recruit all of them is Azure Moon...because of Gilbert is a Knight of Serios. So Shamir, Cyril, Catherine, Manuela, Hanneman☹, Alois, Seteth, Flayn, Gilbert, Byleth (as he/she is considered apart of the Church). Would love your insight on this if possible.
Chapters 1/2/4/7 and 13 might be super rough, but outside of that it should be okay, if a little tough when your roster is still smaller.
The only way I can justify Manuela's stats is that either at one point in development the dancer class was going to be open to faculty or they decided that they had to choose between nerfing her stats, making her harder to recruit, or taking Warp off her spell list and they chose the first option
I think the only situation where her personal skill could help would be blue lion route last chapter. Since edelgard will strike map wide attack with crit chance twice every turn, The personal skill could be somewhat consistently usable if you are playing on a slow pace.

One thing to note with Manuela is that she is the only (to my knowledge, at least) unit in the game that has three Faith spells that you can use regardless of allies being hurt or having status effects. This means that on any map she deploys on, she can get a huge amount of experience spamming her 6 silences, 10 wards, and 2 warps when classed as bishop or gremory. Placed next to Byleth, with an experience gem, and with a dancer to use up her spells more quickly, she can easily get at least a level or two per month with no combat whatsoever. This also makes her great for adjutant-training units that you want to use but have neglected to the point where they can't really handle themselves on the battlefield, since they get some experience whenever she casts a spell.

I think the Devs want you to use her as a dancer since her whole theme is music and her stats somehow line up with dancer unlock.
Either that or they planned a bard class that never made it into the game.
You can't use her as a dancer, it isn't available to faculty.

Even with the bane in reason you can still get her to gremory with lots of investment. Linhardt is a much better magic/utility unit in all aspects except for his massive issue of not being a woman. With him you have to accept either having only 1 warp or moving at a snails pace the whole game
I like to judge Manuela WITHOUT taking warp into consideration because it's such a cheap shot. She's awful. Anna levels of bad even. I legit laughed out loud when I saw Thunder and Bolganone in her reason list. She's even denied the decency of having Wind.
