I've never been to NYC, but I've learned a lot about the city by watching these videos. The transit system is seriously outdated but apparently still functional. I didn't realize that NYC had so many elevated lines.
Actually they were there because J trains were rerouted to Metropolitan Ave (with a shuttle from Parsons-Archer to Crescent on the North end). The 42s had to be taken off that part of town later that day because the stations between Central and Met had no conductor boards compatible with the garbage cans...I mean R42s!
Very good idea to get an RFW from an R32 or R42! This would be one of the only times you would be able to record the publicly-accessed storm door and the new Myrtle viaduct.
R 4 2 Central Avenue was closed, as part of the shutdown. It was not far from where the Viaduct was being rebuilt. The M shuttle ran between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues and Metropolitan Avenue.
IT REMINDS ME OF "THE GOOD OLD DAYS" WHEN I BROKE IN ON THE "Q" CARS IN 1968.I FORGOT THERE WAS NO ELECTRIC BRAKE ON "Q" CARS & I ALMOST RAN OUT OF THE FIRST STATION WITH ONLY THREE CARS. DOES FRESH POND YARD STILL HAVE HAND THROW SWITCHES? SIGNED: OLD MOTORMAN, TSS
Great video! When this G.O. happens again, they should just run R32s and R42s between Metropolitan Avenue and Broad Street so trains won't both be signed up as J and M trains (even though a R179 M train is cool to see).
Isaiah muniz The R179s should be doing fine, but it’s the R32s and R42s that are of concern due to age and low mechanical quality, despite structural quality.
It's the buzzer used to communicate between Train Operator and conductor. Only used before the run to give the TO the ok to begin and when the TO or conductor have to signal one another to A, keep the doors open/close down, B if the TO doesnt want the conductor to open whether it be an overrun or underrun of the station. Other then that we try not to use them

The Chicago L is almost entirely elevated, it's really neat. The system isn't as big and complex as the NYC Subway, but it works well.
And too think we tore down half our elevated lines years ago.......a shame really.....
It's an oldie but a goodie! :-)
Reminds me of then R42 ran on the M shuttle during the shutdown.

Amazing video! Miss the R42 on the (M) so much.
I love this flatbed, after the ditmars viaduct is almost collapsed before the elevated reconstruction.

Best MTA Train ride ever! : )
Brooklyn bound J?? 5:24 at Seneca Ave?
Why are ppl taking pictures at every station?
When they were rebuilding the Myrtle Viaduct, how come the M shuttle didn’t go to Central Avenue?

R 4 2
After years of searching, I have found someone with the J as their profile pic.
Congrats on 20k subs dj hammers.

Glad you enjoyed and thank you for sharing your story! Yes, fresh pond yard still has hand-throw switches!
From Middle Village to Bed-Stuy.
@11:50, is that remnants of an old elevated line?

@@josephgalarza4127 Appreciate it!
Nice video!
What is the Myrtle Line?
Unseen Minecraft M train
He didn't know that
The R42s and R32s will be moving to the IND B division (A) line by fall 2018
Great video! When this G.O. happens again, they should just run R32s and R42s between Metropolitan Avenue and Broad Street so trains won't both be signed up as J and M trains (even though a R179 M train is cool to see).
True I saw an R179 M train during the night when I was waiting for a J train to come at Flushing Av
Bklynkid52 Given how those cars are prone to breaking down, they’ll need more than R32s and R42s on the line.
@@TheRailLeaguer The good thing is that J trains have announcements to/from Metropolitan Avenue now. So now all NTTs can be J trains.
Are you talking about the R179s are prone to breaking down?
Isaiah muniz The R179s should be doing fine, but it’s the R32s and R42s that are of concern due to age and low mechanical quality, despite structural quality.
What’s the buzzing at 0:09?
Train is starting its run. That's the only buzz you will hear.

How does the type of car affect accurate signage? And what cars usually run here?
joel k The signs are rolled by hand and not digital ones. So any mix can happen with R32,42,62,62a,68,and 68a.
OK, so I guess it was not worth reprogramming the digital signs during construction. Got it. Thanks.
This GO is happening again in two weeks. The TA should just run R32s and R42s on the Myrtle Avenue section.
Winson Thai Given the amount of service needed, they’ll need more than the R32s and R42s on the line, given how prone they are to breaking down.
It's Feels Like The R42 (Brown M) Train.
"Myrtle Line" is not a thing, unless you're a train employee maybe. Use the actual letter or number, come on, get real.
