This is awesome been bowhunting and shooting for 30 years now this is probably the best beginner video I've seen. All about what is comfortable to you not about what's the most expensive you don't need a bow that shoots 500 fps to kill a deer.
Excellent advice. When I was a kid, my dad just bought me a bow. And that was that. I never knew WHY he chose it, or what the accessories were for, or what modifications I could make. That was it. Period.
Outdoors Allie somewhere in the middle. But it's been 14 years since I bought my last compound and thinking about upgrading. Kind of attached to my old one though....
Allie you should mention the "Ready to hunt, RTH" options when purchasing a bow. After you've purchased a RTH bow, you can always upgrade equipment at a later date. It's a great option especially when first starting out.
After shooting deer with a lever action 30/30 and 12 ga slugs in my 870 Remington I moved to Ohio and went to bow only getting my 1st deer with a 55 lb Bear Montana longbow. I had a custom bow made and killed 7 more deer over a decade. Now on my 70th trip around the sun I shoot a Mathews and enjoy the accuracy.
Been shooting for 6 years now, and love it. I shoot every day, at least 5 arrows unless I'm traveling. I made a practice rig from my old bow string that I take with me.
Wow, simple and straight forward. A great recipe for a great video. As an avid fisherman who is taking up archery with the goal of bowhunting, this was FANTASTIC! Besides all the great advice like draw length, the part about the non-negotiable purchases that come along with the bow was wonderful.
Good advice! I started my archery hunting in the late 60's while a teenager using a recurve. Huge difference when I finally succumbed to the compound bow craze.
I shot compound about 3 years ago now and then my local archery shop shut down, so I didn’t really use my bow and sold it, so now I’m looking at getting into it again and this is a great video for a reminder of what I need
Best advise ever, buy from a shop. Our gold mine of a Bow shop here in northern California is West Coast Archery. Hans and Adrienne the owner bow hunt and shoot compition. Their customer service and knowledge is by far the best I've ever seen in my 40 years of bow hunting.

You basically covered everything I did wrong when I went out and purchased a 70lb compound bow. I ended up dry firing it and cracking two limbs, and painting inside my arm purple :D
I’m an “old dood” and I want to pay you a compliment on your personality & energy. It seems so many young women today are all about posing, posturing & “attitude”. You see this all over the net. It’s nice to see a young woman who appears happy to be in her own skin and happy with her life! Peace be with you! (And I hope you answer my earlier posed question).
FYI New Bowhunters: For about $375, you can get a great compound bow with infinitely adjustable draw lengths & weights, fully loaded (stabilizer, sight, arrow rest, etc...), arrows and a case. It's a Diamond Infinite Edge Pro by Bowtech. It was my first bow and I got my first deer with it (a big 6 point buck) 6 weeks after picking up a bow for the first time in my life and putting in hours of time at the range for practice. When you upgrade from it, you can pass it on to a younger hunter because it can be drawn down to much lighter weights & shorter draw lengths. Now I shoot a Mathews with all the prime accessories.
Thank you for the real specifics including costs, equipment, etc.. your delivery and comments were much appreciated. I have not used a bow for more years than I’m going to state (uhm high school). I have a glock and a 22 rifle. My (grown) son who is active with firearms introduced me to these. He has recently purchased a torrex set up, which has stirred up my long slumbering archery desire. I’m on land so a practice spot would be easy. I’m signed up for a 3 day GA DNR BOW weekend in November with one of the courses being a general archery for hunting segment. In December at the same location a compound bow education. I’m a researcher and all in kind of dog with a bone gal when I have a passion. I appreciate your experience and informative video.

I've recently retired so now is the time to try new things...right??!! Soooo, this is the year my wife and I will get in to bow hunting. Thank you again!!
May I make a suggestion for you , look into the Bowtech infinite edge bow, it's very compact ,light, and most of all its very adjustable for draw length, and poundage of pull, as your strength increases you can up the pull on the bow, it's a bow that anyone can grow with, also affordable, you can add better gear as you get better, better sights, ect.also buy new so you don't buy problems , some used bows will need news strings bearings ,have been dry fired which can totally ruin a bow, learn the safety of using it and maintaining it like inspecting and waxing of strings, not hard to do hope you have a great experience

I'm not a hunter, but I've been a compound archer for quite some years. 2 of the "non negociables" accessories aren't always required for doing compound archery (what this video is mostly about) - Release: with your type of bow, that gets very narrow at the nocking point, yes a release will be needed, but with other bows, you can perfectly shoot without a release, just your fingers (of course protected by a glove or tab). It really depends on the type and model of bow if you **need** a release, or if you **can use** one. - sight: it's a tool that helps you, but you can absolutely shoot arrows accurately too without a sight Other than that, very good video :)
G'day from Australia. Watched the video and I now bought a compound bow. I have a couple of acres to practice on. Looking forward to participating in the sport.
I absolutely needed and loved this video, even if it's just to satisfy my random love for "beginner tips" videos. I do love the aesthetics of Archery and love movies with archer. And who knows what happens in the short future. Anyway I really appreciate it😁
I always wanted to own a compact bow. I never owned one, but I'm looking buying one down the road. Hawkeye and Kate Bishop are my favorite Marvel characters. Great video.
Hello. In the infancy stages of Bow Knowledge. Seeking to become a skilled Bow man. This was the VERY FIRST video info that i viewed. Well done. This is Very Encouraging video. Great persona. Nice com skills. To the point. No fluff. What a time saver ( very very important to me!) To many vid makers get in their own way. Liked and Subscribed with first viewing. 😎
Had the bow set up at a pro shop. It performed just fine th-cam.com/users/postUgkxQEKUoxLWwayEDZR0NKB-5limn4MBU-2L . And I would say this is a good starting now that I could pass down to my son when he is older. But the package was missing the release and a nock was missing from one arrow.Dealing with customer support was terrible. They suggested I buy a new release rather than correct their own quality control issue because it’s to expensive for the. to ship it out from China.Update: manufacturer got back to me and resolved the issue. I retract the above statement.
Just came across this video looking for something. And because im still a beginner, i got interested to watch. ive only been shooting arrows for about 2 months now. Im still learning. I didn't go through these steps but i wish i did so i could have chosen the right bow for me to buy. I bought a bow that i thought was the only one available, but its not too bad. But i still picked up some good stuff on this video. Like i said im still a beginner. I like this video, it has good information for beginners or wanting to start bow hunting or just target shooting. Thank you.
I said to one of my friends you can either pay with money or frustration. I bought my first bow at the pro shop, and while it was more expensive than buying online it was set up right when I walked out the door.
Great video for new starters , some good advice . I've been shooting for about 5 years both recurve and lever limb bows . TH-cam has loads of resources for new and intermediate archers. Thanks
Just founding out about the ‘hidden costs’ spent all my money on a nice Hoyt and definitely underestimated how much the accessories cost!!! Got the bow, got the target, got the free cap but for now all I can do is look at it till I’ve saved for the rest😂
Hi there many thanks for tips, guess iam a new bee to Compound archery but been shooting traditional English long bows at 100lb draw weight for around ten years, now I'm older I'm on a slightly easier compound, totally different in every way but loving it!
This video was amazing! You totally read my mind about Craigslist... I'm ALL about that craigslist for most stuff but def not the best place for getting your first bow! My biggest learning moment so far has been my sight. I learned very quickly that the "bang on some plastic until you are sighted in" was not for me. I upgraded right away to a micro adjustable sight because in the long run I'll have more time to shoot my bow! Thanks for the awesome video!
Thanks for this video, my daughter is 10 and wants to get into archery because it was fun at the summer camp she went to. Getting her a bow for Christmas and getting myself one as well so we can shoot together.
Your video is pretty good, my family likes to go hunting and we usually use shotguns but using bow has been one of my dreams and with this information now I have at least the basics, thanks!!!!
Absolutely right and I would highly recommend the additional expense of buying a bow press and doing that maintenance yourself because 700.00 up front is a cry once deal than spending that more in the long run. Yes I recommend all hunters get the rangefinders. If you have to guess the distance fine but it’s good to have the option of getting near dead on accurate ranges. Great video and awesome advice thank you.
I thought I would get my son. Into archery because we like weapons, then when I was a assembling his bow I though. “ I want that” now I have another one arriving. Neither of us have ever used one but can’t wait mate.
I am a new to archery and wanted some more information before heading out to an Archery store .... Thanks for putting your video together you answered some questions for me ... Draw length and weight !!!!!
Good video. Definitely a lot of good things to think about when starting out. One thing I would like to point out is in the beginning when you're talking about equipment. The first choice someone needs to decide is whether to go instinctive or not. I bought a used bowl that had all the bells and whistles on it and was shooting decently but not great. I stripped everything off except for the drop-down arrow rest and stabilizer, and just went with a leather fingered glove and my grouping improved by inches. Some people can just shoot better like that. And it definitely helps to save on cost. Just something to think about
im left handed and left eye dominant so when i went to my local shop i only had the one choice. so i am purchasing the 2020 Bear Paradox. its pretty adjustable so i feel its a great beginner bow. comes with a whisker biscuit an ok 4 pin sight and stabilizer already and with taxes was 615 dollars US
If anyone needs a decent compound bow for all ages adult male female to teen creative XP makes a beautiful compound bow for 350 or less sometimes comes with everything you need highly recommend for anyone. They definitely stand with Mathews Hoyt and other good brands. 💯💯
You may go over 500 depending on the stuff you pick but I got a hoyt rx3 for 800 plus the quiver for it then paid an addition 400 bucks including taxes and services to get the bow tuned and adjusted for me.
@@OutdoorsAllie I’m just getting into archery. Never did it before. Wasn’t interested until I moved to North Dakota where the only tags you can buy over the counter are bow tags. Thank you again!
Nothing more inspiring than a beautiful instructor. Had to watch the video twice because I was so distracted. I wish I was a deer. Liked and subscribed.
Bow hunting since 1990. I had bought my then young son an archery set. He had so much fun I went out and bought mine! Took a few years to finally get something other than quail and grouse. We became fairly deadly. I would take deer regularly with my bow rather than my rifle. Haven’t been as active the last 2 years. I’m now teaching my grandson which is reinvigorating my drive. Anybody can get a deer with a rifle.....
OK let me just say this as a tip and trick do your research on the bow she makes alot of good points like the draw length however the draw weight isn't as big as a problem most people go for a 70pound draw weight if you struggle to pull it back it just means you need to train yourself and trust me it pays off. Like I said do your research know everything about the bow including what every little part does and you can maintain it and service it yourself it's great fun I find alot of joy doing it. Learn to tune it yourself it's really fun to learn and only you will beable to get it just how you like it things will need to be replaced eventually but if you teach yourself how to do it trust me it works out alot cheaper.
Thanks for watching everyone. If you're interested in bowhunting as well check out my most recent video!! Cheers. th-cam.com/video/hZdjNHbfJBM/w-d-xo.html

I always wanted to own a compact bow. I never owned one, but I'm looking buying one down the road. Hawkeye and Kate Bishop are my favorite Marvel characters. Great video.
Glad you liked it!
Knowing the tune of your bow is essential to double checking how trustworthy your local archery shop is. A lot easier than most people think.
I beginning to learn!
😎
Glad it was helpful!
I'm about to go on the archery journey thanks for the info.
Happy to hear that!
Youve taught me so much in a small period of time
Happy it helped!
Thanks for watching!
i would just have added right and left eye dominance where getting a bow. thank you for this!
Good point!
Thank you.
Thanks for watching Andrew! Enjoy your new bow!
Thank you for well informed video. I just made the decision not to buy my first compound bow but my first bolt action rifle.
Awesome!!! You will love it!
Great video. My daughter is interested in learning and starting archery. I know nothing about it so this helped a lot. Thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Bruh this the perfect video I’ve been looking for
Glad to hear that!
I said to one of my friends you can either pay with money or frustration. I bought my first bow at the pro shop, and while it was more expensive than buying online it was set up right when I walked out the door.
Thank you so much for this breakdown. Trying to get into archery with my 14yr old daughter.
Glad it was helpful!
Great video for new starters , some good advice . I've been shooting for about 5 years both recurve and lever limb bows . TH-cam has loads of resources for new and intermediate archers. Thanks
Yes, TH-cam is a great resource. Thanks for watching Gary!
Just founding out about the ‘hidden costs’ spent all my money on a nice Hoyt and definitely underestimated how much the accessories cost!!! Got the bow, got the target, got the free cap but for now all I can do is look at it till I’ve saved for the rest😂
Oh ya, it's expensive for sure!
Somewhat in the middle. just ordered a new vxr... cant wait. Alot of great tips for beginners.keep it up!
Nice! Thanks for watching!
Your gonna love it. 👍
Hi there many thanks for tips, guess iam a new bee to Compound archery but been shooting traditional English long bows at 100lb draw weight for around ten years, now I'm older I'm on a slightly easier compound, totally different in every way but loving it!
Happy to hear that Ross!
Range finder is definitely a must
A lot of good information there thank you Miss Allie🐝
Thanks for watching!
Thank You for have it nice and clear, I like the way you present , got me smile all the way to the end.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Great video! I watched only one useless video before finding this one. Thanks.
Glad it helped!
Thanks for this video, my daughter is 10 and wants to get into archery because it was fun at the summer camp she went to. Getting her a bow for Christmas and getting myself one as well so we can shoot together.
SOOO happy to hear that!!
Allie you and Nick are awesome enjoy life to the fullest have fun you guys rock I watch your videos every day keep up the good work 👌👌👌👌
Thanks Juan!! Take care!
I am diving into learning archery/bowhunting this year and this video was super helpful, thank you!
Glad it was helpful Colin!
Your video is pretty good, my family likes to go hunting and we usually use shotguns but using bow has been one of my dreams and with this information now I have at least the basics, thanks!!!!
Thanks for watching. Glad you liked it!
Arno?
Absolutely right and I would highly recommend the additional expense of buying a bow press and doing that maintenance yourself because 700.00 up front is a cry once deal than spending that more in the long run. Yes I recommend all hunters get the rangefinders. If you have to guess the distance fine but it’s good to have the option of getting near dead on accurate ranges. Great video and awesome advice thank you.
Thanks for the feedback Chris!
I thought I would get my son. Into archery because we like weapons, then when I was a assembling his bow I though. “ I want that” now I have another one arriving.
Neither of us have ever used one but can’t wait mate.
Im sure he'll still have a blast!
I've been following you on Instagram for over a year now and had no idea you did youtube videos! This video is a great introduction, thank you.
Awesome! Thank you Jake!
Newbie but watching and learning as much as I can to ensure I don’t over purchase or get ripped. Good info
I hope it helped!
Bro your camera quality is impeccable. First thing I noticed
I appreciate that!
This is helpful iam a newbie , looking forwad to get my first bow & this is helpful in South Africa
Glad to hear it was helpful!
which one would you recommend for a beginner a compound bow , a recurve bow or longbow for Archery aswell as hunting deer ?
I wish I watched this video before buying a bow. Thanks for the GREAT info.
Thanks for watching Chelsea!
I am a new to archery and wanted some more information before heading out to an Archery store .... Thanks for putting your video together you answered some questions for me ... Draw length and weight !!!!!
Glad to help
I would say knowing and understanding the anatomy of a bow will help with making a decision.
For sure.
You shot me through the heart.
And your to blame! Darling you give looove a *bad name!*
Great tips for a beginner, thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Just something to think about
Thanks for the feedback Brian!
Great video! Very helpful as I start thinking about buying my first bow!
Glad it was helpful Benjamin!
I’m a big fan of Matthews bows.
Me too.
im left handed and left eye dominant so when i went to my local shop i only had the one choice. so i am purchasing the 2020 Bear Paradox. its pretty adjustable so i feel its a great beginner bow. comes with a whisker biscuit an ok 4 pin sight and stabilizer already and with taxes was 615 dollars US
No too bad! I hope you have a blast Will!
Great video. It will really help with purchasing my first one. Thank you for your insight
Glad it was helpful!
Great tips, great info, great delivery! Enjoyed it, well done!
Glad you enjoyed it!
If anyone needs a decent compound bow for all ages adult male female to teen creative XP makes a beautiful compound bow for 350 or less sometimes comes with everything you need highly recommend for anyone. They definitely stand with Mathews Hoyt and other good brands. 💯💯
Thanks so much for the super detailed video!
I've been told to watch for last year's model bows to go on sale as well when trying to find a deal
Good tip!
Great video. Lots of good info. A good base line for the stuff you actually need is about 300-400 dollars roughly minus the bow.
Yes, true.
You may go over 500 depending on the stuff you pick but I got a hoyt rx3 for 800 plus the quiver for it then paid an addition 400 bucks including taxes and services to get the bow tuned and adjusted for me.
Useful information thanks for sharing and you got charismatic personality I really like the way you explained the topic
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks-very good video. Brand new, saving up for a compound bow.
Glad it helped!
Great info! I’m looking to purchase my first compound bow. Very helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
I found this video very helpful. Thank you!!!
Glad it was helpful!
It sure is a blast!
Glad to hear you're passing it down.
