Ariba Japanese Auction SUCKS and here is why:
Let's think you had a previous RFQ and the quotes are as follows:
    Supplier A quote was 110.00,
    Supplier B quote was 90.00
    Supplier C quote was 80.00.
You realize that the traditional English Reverse auction will not be the best approach and you want to move forward with a Japanese auction. First off - You CANNOT publish the auction to all participants (in parallel) with their own initial bids as shown above. It must be SERIAL.
The auction will have to start at the highest price level ($110.00) and the "Submit Acceptance" button it will be visible ONLY to supplier A who was the highest bidder. The Supplier "B" (the second highest bid) will be able to accept his initial price level of $90 bucks ONLY when his competitor - supplier A- rejects the total number of consecutive rounds set by the auctioneer. Meanwhile, the supplier C, who submitted the lowest RFQ price, is SCREWED because the auction will be open to him ONLY when supplier A and Supplier B finished the auction.
in a nutshell, Japanese auction in Ariba needs a lot of enhancements.
