When I was a little girl, I used to sing in a choir. For four years, we were the choir voices of the Nutcracker ballet that played in town (if I’m not mistaken, it was the Moscow Ballet) every night they had a show, for the Waltz of the Snowflakes but as needed as well. I have the fondest memories of that time, where backstage I watched the ballet, and also from the seats when we were done singing. This ballet is everything, I can’t hold my tears when I listen to it. Tchaikovsky had such a talent to capture emotions.

I love this conductor and would love to play for him. He manages to keep all the energy the piece needs without ever turning the tiptoes of tiny feet into a boot stomp. That's SO HARD. The conductor really does carry the whole vibe, and it's always so much harder to keep a full orchestra who's pumping showtime adrenaline together with music that has to stay in the box. It's really hard to do that light staccato on strings as it is, but to do it for a whole orchestra and for an entire movement is like fighting the law of gravity. Containment is hard. In big, bold, fortissimo movements where everyone gets a chance to let loose it matters less, but Sugar Plum should be fairly slow-just like this-and like the tiptoes of fairies trying not to wake a sleeping child. (I've only found two on here so far that manage it.) Conductors usually look funny to everyone else because the best ones combine brilliant musicianship with a sort of silent melodrama of expressions that no one but the orchestra can [usually] see. The communication might look silly to everyone else, but it's not meant for an audience. 🎻😊

I have fallen in love with this music. Melody endures for ever and Tchaikovsky, too will never die. I think that Berliner Philharmoniker perform is effective, forceful and original in all spheres of musical creativity - whether instrumental, piano and symponic music, as well as opera and ballet. I have been so impressed by Sir Simon Rattle as an artist and person that I feel that he has spiritually taught me a lot. I think he is the most delightful person of all men and artists I have ever known.
